Soliex 10 Posted July 21, 2009 (edited) Hey Guys, I've been having a blast playing Arma 2 online in co-op mode. So much so I went out and bought a joystick and TrackIR5. Even though the game runs so poorly on my QX9750, GTX295 and 8GB of OCZ Ram. With that being said, Im looking for some advice from some of you expert pilots out there. I guess I'll list my questions/concerns in number format. 1. When is the right time to drop GBU's on a target that has been designated with the laser? I have always assumed it was when the box around the circle begins to fade, yet I miss about 50% of the time. 2. When is the right time to drop unguided bombs on targets? I have tried setting a personal waypoint where I want the bomb dropped. Fly in at about 500 altitude and going around 250, and drop the bomb around 1000 out, no success. 3. Whats the best way to avoid Anti-Aircraft defenses. (Mobile, Static, Infantry) 4. Whats the best way to engage Anti-Aircraft without anyone on the ground desinating targets? Thanks Much! -Soliex Edited July 21, 2009 by Soliex
Simon C 0 Posted July 21, 2009 For number 1, it's as soon as you see the box around the circle. That's the lock indicator. For number 2, seeing as we have a lack of CCIP or CCRP in ArmA 2 as of yet, the best tactic is to divebomb the target. Either that or fly low enough so that the bombs can't possibly miss :p For number 3, height is the key. Against things like the Shilka, staying really high is the best thing. Against missiles, low altitude is the key, as they have less time to spot you. Against a Tunguska which has both types of AA, low altitude and high speed is the best bet. For number 4, it depends on the type of target. If it's a vehicle, a Maverick Missile will usually get the job done. For infantry, you're going to have to either spot them and engage them with rockets or cannon fire, or simply fly so as to prevent them from firing at you, i.e. really low and fast. ajsarge 10 Posted July 21, 2009 When you're locked on something, the box shows up with the target type. A circle means that if you launch now, your missile/bomb will hit (unless there's a building or tree in the way). Sadly, the Mk82 in Arma2 has a guidance package on it, when it's just an iron bomb. Lock, find the circle, and dump. Boom goes the tank. Makes the UGB harrier godly in domination.
Soliex 10 Posted July 21, 2009 I didnt know you could still lock onto targets when it was just a regular bomb. Although, I dont ever remember trying. Thanks for the replies.
arewenotmen 10 Posted July 21, 2009 With the SU-25 and the FAB-250, it's easy. Anywhere near the target, even without the lock symbol, and just drop them. I think you can hit targets being lased too, but you don't get a marker so it's not obvious. Anyone know what the deal is with that?
