Kane Hart 10 Posted July 7, 2009 1) Is there servers where you can go play on 24/7 not like BF2 where u kill and reset but where your at constant war with say players vs NPC's? 2) Same as above but player vs player with 100's of pc's on each side to make it into a real fun war? 3) can you run a co-op as a dedicated server at home for just friends on a close private lan network? 4) How come such an amazing looking game does not have more then 50 player multi player? 5) there any mods or RP mods or anything make it sort of like GTA:SA like where they got the online mod and the RP servers. Really fun anyways add anything else that may trigger happiness.. I'm really into that stuff.
kylania 568 Posted July 7, 2009 1) Is there servers where you can go play on 24/7 not like BF2 where u kill and reset but where your at constant war with say players vs NPC's?There are plenty of co-op servers out there. None are really persistant though, and most have a 20-30 player cap. The thing with co-op servers is that teamwork is essential. There's really nothing in ArmA2 which is just "kill, kill, kill". It's "achieve the objective". 2) Same as above but player vs player with 100's of pc's on each side to make it into a real fun war? There are several tournaments that are running such as ArmA Theatre of War and Charlie Foxtrot: ArmA2 which are 50-100 player PvP tournaments weekly. Both are just starting up for ArmAII and were a total blast for ArmA. 3) can you run a co-op as a dedicated server at home for just friends on a close private lan network? Sure can! 4) How come such an amazing looking game does not have more then 50 player multi player? It's a thinking-man's-shooter. You can't Rambo your way through ArmA and it's not as fast paced and easy to get into as Call of Duty or something. It's a game that needs patience, planning and practice. Like war, only more fun. :) 5) there any mods or RP mods or anything make it sort of like GTA:SA like where they got the online mod and the RP servers. Yes, personally I dislike all the "City Life" and "play as a thug" type games, but there were plenty of them for ArmA and they are being coverted to ArmA II. There's even FArmA! :) Really fun anyways add anything else that may trigger happiness.. I'm really into that stuff. Hope you enjoy ArmA2! :)
bushlurker 46 Posted July 7, 2009 1) - Technically Yes - persistent missions are possible 2) - also a technical Yes - not sure about the 100s tho... 3) - Absolutely - its the best way... Technically you can even run a server on the same machine you play the game on 4) - Ask a Dev 5) - RPG style gameplay? - hmmm.. Sahrani Life for Arma 1 attempted that.. Don't understand the reference 100% though...
Kane Hart 10 Posted July 7, 2009 Question on the server hosting... Does it take much resources? I mean running local machine vs local dedicated server machine.. Would it not be better on the dedicated server?
kylania 568 Posted July 7, 2009 If you're going to have more than a few players on dedicated is the way to go. In ArmA memory was the main bottleneck for machine specs though. Now, perhaps CPU enters into it as well (AI on separate core and all that).
