IceFire 0 Posted March 10, 2002 Anyone play the "Vulcan" single player mission? When in the city fending off the hinds in the vulcans, I order one of my vulcan men to go and rearm at a near by ammo truck. He goes off to reload, and it says "action" above him. The thing is that he doesn't stop. He never finishes. He can go on throughout the whole game reloading. Why does this happen? I even order the M117 driver out and have him drive the ammo truck out in the open so that it will be more accessable to the vulcan driver. It doesn't make a difference. Anyone know why? Also, is there anyway to beat that mission without having to retreat and radio in the planes to destroy the additional tanks?
Aculaud 0 Posted March 10, 2002 first off, i played that mission a few times, and unless anyone else has anything to say about it, i'm fairly certain thats how the mission was meant to be played through. as for re-loading. how do you know he never finishes? i think you have to order him to return to formation again to keep fighting. I'll go play that one again in a bit and get back to you.
IceFire 0 Posted March 10, 2002 Because it keeps saying "action" above him when he is relaoding. When he is finished, it should say "ready".
IceFire 0 Posted March 10, 2002 Also, the town is saved from the enemy assault, the mission is completed. It's just that it's the planes that do it. I mean how do they expect you to take on like 4 or 5 T80's while you only have 2 vulcans with flimsy armor and 1 M117 that cannot even attack tanks. I can easily hold off the 1st 3 tanks or BMP's, whatever they are. But they are light armor compared to the later tank assault.
Aculaud 0 Posted March 10, 2002 ok, as for re-arming, you should distinctly hear your other vulcan say "ready" after hes done re-amring. after this, he'll just go back to fighting. As for the tanks (not BMPs mind you, but the real tanks that come after that), youre not supposed to fight them. you retreat and call in support from the uss midway for two a-10s to deal with the tanks. use your radio for that
IceFire 0 Posted March 10, 2002 Yeah, I know you're supposed to call for the A-10's that's what I always do. Does anyone know if there is a way to do this without retreating? And as for the reloading, I know he is supposed to say ready. The reason I made this thread in the first place is because he never says "ready" or is ready. Aculaud 0 Posted March 10, 2002 No, i'm pretty sure theres no other way to do it without retreating. A vulcan was not made to take on multiple tanks. So yeah, i think youre gonna have to keep retreating and calling in air support. Well, if he never says ready, i would question a few things: First off, what are you doing to make him re-load? When i tell him to reload, i select the driver of that vulcan when he says hes low on ammo, and hit "6" for the action menu, and tell him to "reload at ammo truck 9 'o clock" or something to that extent. Second, what version of OFP are you running? I dont know of any glitches related to earlier versions that effect the reloading of your team mates vehicles, but theres a chance it could be that. IceFire 0 Posted March 10, 2002 OF COURSE I'm telling him to reload by using his action menu! How else would I do it?? I'm running the game out of the box.
Aculaud 0 Posted March 10, 2002 then all i can say is go try upgrading. If that doesnt work.................give them both AA launchers and keep them on foot or something
charles 0 Posted March 11, 2002 there's no way you can sucess in this mission even you have killed everything, you will still get all the crosses. I played it couple times that i was able to destroy all the tanks and choppers, and there's a way to do it. first you have to temporary retreat to somewhere which the tanks won't be able to see you(somewhere far away), stay there and wait till they overrun the base and settle down(usually they will let their guard down and stop moving around after they haven't seen an enemy for a while) now, you order the other vulcan to stay at the spot and you can move out slowly(i usually get the gunner position and let the AI be the driver) just move and stop all the time and zoom in max with the gun sight, it's kind of like sniping. this way i managed to destroy the bmps and disable the tanks, sometimes when i am lucky, i even disable the tanks just enough that the crews inside will get out and i can steal their tanks. one thing to watch out is the MI24s when you hear choppers, start looking up the sky. one more thing, you do need lots of ammo to disable a tank, so just keep on shooting for like 10, 20 second and stop to take a look if it's still alive, if you run out of ammo go back to the other vulcan which is parked in the safe spot and take over it
