Griffin64 0 Posted June 25, 2009 Hi there, I currently have the ArmA 2 demo and have a couple questions for those who own the full retail game. Firstly, I noticed that view distance is capped in multiplayer. So, in the full game, is there a serverside method to increase the default view distance? I understand that view distance is locked to prevent people with better computers having an advantage over other players, BUT what about in co-op missions? In large maps I'd love to have a high view distance so I can fly jets without only seeing a wall of fog around me, I hope this is possible because I know that limited view distance ruins the immersion. Thanks for any responses/help :)
Nutlink 10 Posted June 25, 2009 It's serverside I believe. Depending on what the admin has setup they can set your graphics settings to enable grass and a certain viewdistance where as others will leave your settings alone.

So can server admins set that in game, or do they have to go and edit some files (if so, how?)? My friend will be starting an ArmA 2 server up in about a week or so and he probably won't know how to change the view distance. Thanks for any help :D
frederf 0 Posted June 25, 2009 It's in the server config for default value of view distance or you can run scripting to change it during the mission on a per-client basis. The adjustment is really really hidden which is why 99.999999% of ArmA1 and ArmA2 servers will run on the out-of-the-box default view distance. C'est la ignorance. So do you think my friend will be able to find it and change it? Also, is there any sort of tutorial or program for the scripting? I used to have the instant view distance mod for arma 1 and I'm not sure if there's anything like that for arma 2 yet.
frederf 0 Posted June 26, 2009 Yeah, you can change it. It's in the profile file of the host. This is easy for non-dedicated hosts but dedicate hosts need a profile made and the profile to be specified in the launch parameters. viewDistance=1600; is the value
