Glitch with laser marker

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I think I've found what might be a glitch with the game...

In the mission "Into the Storm" I find that I get texture artifacts (flickering white lines, purple sky) which eventually leads to the game crashing with the message 'Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered'. This specifically happens when I equip the laser marker and turn it on. This can be fixed by switching off the laser marker.

I've attempted to reproduce this in the editor, although nothing happens (at least the few times when I tried it).

Temperature of my graphics card has consistently remained low when testing.

I think that this is likely to be an issue with the campaign specifically and was wondering if others have had a similar problem. Other than this I've had few other problems with the game (except low FPS in dense areas).

All settings set to high expect: Terrain, Objects, Shadow which are all set to normal. Postprocess is disabled. Interface and 3D Resolutions are both set to 1920x1200.

my spec:

Q6600 G0 @ 2.4Ghz (default speed)

Asus P5K Premium/Wifi-AP

2GB Corsair TwinX XMS2, DDR2 PC-6400

XFX 275GTX

Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium

Vista 32 Premium

Dell 2405FPW 24"

Drivers up to date.

I have this exact same issue, although I didn't check to see that it was my display driver that was the reason for the crash. I basically take out the laser marker, use it to take down a house, and then the game starts getting unstable/flickery textures until it CTDs. Happens every time. If I don't use the laser marker, nothing happens, but then I can't finish the mission.

WTF?

My rig:

Q9550 @ 3.8

8GB DDR2

Powercolor 4870x2

Vista x64

yep I got the horrific nvlddmkm error as well... If this is the first time you got it I really wish you good luck...

A while back, I bought a new graphics card (250GTS) and a big new screen (Asus 26") to play my beloved ARMA1 when I first got this problem. At the beginning I though it was a simple problem that I would solve with a visit to a couple of troubleshooting forums. As I turned out it is a REALLY BIG DEAL... There are thousands of forum threads with this problem for a small batch of games (unfortunately ARMA1 & ARMA2 is in that list)... The problem with this error is that is not specific. It could be anything wrong with your system. Its not an error for a specific problem. As I wanted to play ARMA so much I tried about 20-30 of the listed methods and nothing solved it.

(See my thread here)

I just finished installing ARMA2 DEMO and 2 minutes in the game I keep getting this error :( I guess there is no ARMA fun from me. I am stuck with watching youtube videos of others playing the game... oh well... the funny thing is the game I wanted the most!!!

I really wish you good luck and I hope you solve the problem

Thanks for the replies,

I'm pretty sure its linked to using the laser marker only, since I've never had any other CTD's when playing the game. Its 100% reproducible every time when I turn the laser marker on.

Possibly an issue with memory allocation, since the game exponentially runs slower and slower until the laser marker is switched off / CTD...
