German / english version interchangable ?

Hi , will my german key work with an english version , or will I be able to use mods to get a true "english" version of the game .

I know there are some unofficial english packs flaoting around , but I would rather use something that is official etc , also I beleive that the unofficial pack introduces one or 2 bugs
