Guest Posted November 4, 2007 I read all this stuff about *why* was Arma 1 rushed out, given out too early, finally fixed up (mostly) then just to see when the modding community start working on some big stuff and whatnot, Arma 2 news shows up proclaiming 2008 potential release. For anyone working on large scale Addons, I can see this basically severely restricting what I would expect to see come out for Arma 1, because obviously it would be no dif trying to port these over to Arma 2 than taking a model addon from Ofp and putting it into Arma 1, it would be in the wrong updated world. This is unfortunate. But theres no way around it I see. Okay. So what about missions. For instance like one of *the* most popular massive mp missions made for Ofp is currently in the process of being converted into Arma 1, Mike Melvins CTI (not to be confused with versions from other users that are availiable now) - and he already stated it has a ways to go still in the process - for what, to see this mission get released x months before Arma 2 comes out, and see it once again incompatable with the new Arma game? Same for me, and my project. Ive spent near 2 years on a massive mission, and fortunately Arma 1 supports .Sqs files and all Ofp commands hence I was able to port it over and continue work on the new island. What I want to know, is simple. Will Arma 2 support .Sqs files, will Arma 2 support all commands in script from Arma 1, and will Arma 2 support the mission files from Arma 1 (.Sqm). If it will not, even if my project runs through into and beyond the release of Arma 2, I will not even bother to attempt to convert for Arma 2, it would be like starting alover, and my mission will hence be released for Arma 1 then. Honestly, my feeling personally on this matter. What Bis has done is really ok with me, but if they do not go out of their way to support the missions and campaign projects that are currently in the making for Arma 1 in Arma 2, then that would just be plain wrong, period. If Arma 2 was projected 2 - 3 years from now, that would be different, but they are not giving enough time for the big stuff to be finished for the current Arma game, and bad enough we lose all the model addons in Arma 1 no matter what. I just hope what I feel is the 'right thing' is done here. If not, I doubt I will plan on even buying Arma 2.
