disappointed ArmA user: bugs and lag

I just bought the game today after reading much about it. The DVD contained version 1.04 and I immediately updated to 1.05 since it should fix many bugs and is required for online play.

I have a rather new machine, with a C2D E6600 processor, 2GB RAM, 8800GTS 640MB graphics card, and an Asus P5W mobo using onboard sound. I am running a fresh install of XP with SP2, and latest (official) drivers for graphics and mobo.

I have not yet been able to really enjoy this game because of many bugs / problems. I have had: very slow texture loading, textures gone missing after some time, crashes to desktop, BSOD (which I have never had in the last 5 years of windows computing...), hard lockups requiring reboot, and laggy performance overall. I have tried different resolutions and many different mixes of graphics options. The game just doesn't perform, and is not stable.

I have read the boards looking for answers, but there is no real definitive answer to these problems, although many people with high-end machines are actually having a lot of problems. Probable causes for all these problems may be:

- Graphics card (the nvidia 8800 series seems to be problematic hardware for this game)

- Processor (some people have said that maybe the C2D is actually the problem)

- OS (Vista versus XP, although the problems seem to be occuring in both OSes)

There is however no consensus on what the real problem is.

I am just curious what hardware and drivers other people are using that are having similar problems (CTD, BSOD, lag) and maybe we can pinpoint on what the culprit of all these problems really is and hope for a fix in version 1.06. So please post your config if you have similar problems as I have.
