jimbojones 2 Posted March 19, 2007 Does anyone know what a Driver Stop Error 0x0000007F means? It only happens when I try to connect to a MP game. I can play for about a minute then I get the blue screen and have to power down. No firewall activer or AV.
desertfox 2 Posted March 19, 2007 Symantec Antivirus problem. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822789
jimbojones 2 Posted March 19, 2007 Thanks, but I have never installed any Symantec products. I did follow the general link on that page and it was pretty vague, anywhere from a software to hardware problem, possible memory trouble, possible motherboard issue, possible other hardware or even software problems. Thanks for looking though
jimbojones 2 Posted March 19, 2007 I am getting these Divide by zero error A divide by zero is caused when a DIV instruction is executed and the divisor is 0. Memory corruption (or other hardware problems) or software failures can cause this.
desertfox 2 Posted March 19, 2007 Source: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/137539/ You may receive the following error message while running Windows: STOP 0x0000007F (UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP) CAUSE This error message can occur if either of the following conditions exists: • Your computer has hardware or software problems (hardware failure is the most common cause). • You try to over clock the speed of your computer's processor (for example, you set a 150 MhZ processor to run at 187 MhZ). The above STOP error means a trap occurred in kernel mode and the trap is either one the kernel is not allowed to have or is always fatal. The most common causes of a STOP 0x7F are: • Low-level hardware corruption, such as corrupt memory (RAM) • Mismatched memory modules • A malfunctioning motherboard To determine an approximate cause, examine the parameters at the top of the STOP screen: **STOP 0x0000007F (0x000000XX, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, 0x00000000) UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP The most important parameter is the first one (0x0000000X) which may have several different values. The cause of this trap can vary, depending on the value of this parameter. All traps that cause a STOP 0x7F can be found in any Intel x86 microprocessor reference manual as they are specific to the x86 platform. Here are some of the most common ones: Values Meaning ---------- -------------------- 0x00000000 Divide by Zero Error 0x00000004 Overflow 0x00000005 Bounds Check Fault 0x00000006 Invalid Opcode 0x00000008 Double Fault I think it's not vague. It says it is caused by faulty hardware, or a software applying incorrect parameters to the hardware drivers ( e.g. by overclocking a component ) *EDIT* - You report this problem in MP only. How long have you played SP without this error, and was this recently ? It is unlikely that this type of error is restricted to multiplayer, unless you have a defective ethernet controller. - Try making a burn-in test of your hardware components. Google for a free tool. It will tell you if your RAM, GPU or CPU cause the problem *EDIT 2* ( Didn't see your other post lol ) 0x00000000: Divide By Zero Error. The system made an attempt to divide a number by zero. Poorly written software or corrupted data in memory can cause this problem. This would narrow it in to RAM .. or poorly written software COUGH COUGH
jimbojones 2 Posted March 19, 2007 Thanks again, I appreciate your help I can play single player for at least an hour (longest Ive played so far) Multiplayer, I have never gotten past 5 minutes. I have tried the openAl update, audio rendering, updated video drivers, etc. Still no good. I have done memory tests and they come back ok. So far I have not had any similar crashes in any other programs. I am using Xp Media Center.......I have a CD of Vista sitting ont he table, I thought about it, but that doesnt seem to be an easier with some of the posts Ive read. Too bad I cannt get it to run on my Ubuntu drive
desertfox 2 Posted March 20, 2007 Now there's one thing now that makes me think "Not a temperature problem" .. that you are able to play the game in Singleplayer for a long time. So let's put that thought aside for a while. Maybe we get it solved before the first stable Arma 4 Linux release ^.^ I just read the Wiki looking up something for another MP connected problem, and it reports various issues with nVidia nForce ethernet controllers. So, do you have a mainboard with onboard ethernet from nVidia ? This could indeed be the hardware component that fails.
jimbojones 2 Posted March 22, 2007 Well, I was able to play the other night for 1 hour: no crash. First off, Im using an XPS1210 w/ GeForce 7400 Go I updated the video driver using laptop2go modified inf. I then proceeded to disable the built in webcam and mic. For some reason I feel like maybe it was a voip issue so I gave it a go and it works for now. I will go back and try to enable the mic and webcam one by one to see exactly what was crashing it. I also seen a post by d3dsh33p and he said he had trouble with his webcam too, so I feel that was probally the issue. I will find out exactly what my problem was so that others who have something similar can benefit from this.
desertfox 2 Posted March 22, 2007 Try to re-enable the mic and see if Arma runs. Then re-enable the webcam. If it crashes then, you found the problem causer. If you can play Arma with cam and mic .. you had old drivers installed. Bad ! lol
