Are there any RPG-style missions?

Recommended Posts

Hello, I am a longtime player of OFP, but very new to the modding side of this terrific series of games.

I have downloaded quite a few missions, from simple to complex, from master piece to incomprehensible disaster.

I am curious if there are any missions out there styled after RPGs, such as Everquest or the Final Fantasy series. What I mean is, levels that are really just self contained worlds, covering an entire island, in which you can choose which sub-missions to accomplish and which to avoid. Lots of cutscenes and scripted dialogue, with depth of plot. The Crossroads mission in Resistance kind of scratches the surface of this genre, but I'd like to see something much more involved.

I realize that this could be a potentially huge project (certainly not one I am capable of undertaking), but I suspect with the kind of long term devotion shown to this game by so many, I figure someone must have at least TRIED this in the past five years.

Is there anything out there like this, or will the editor not even support a mission over a certain size?

Thanks for any info. I've been thinking a lot lately of trying something like this myself, but I know so little about modding at this point that it would be an incredibly time-consuming process, and I'd love to see what others might have done before me.

Try http://www.sinewsofwar.com/Downloads/tabid/77/Default.aspx

and download everything that has "SOW v2.0" in front of it along with "The New Resistance".

That should give you a rendition of what you are looking for that is probably as close as anyone has done yet.

If you want to see before downloading ... go here : http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Sinews_of_War

Daniel @ Sep. 05 2006,23:09)]Tried Abandoned Armies? Huge open ended mission that leaves a lot up to the player. Lots of cutscenes and dialogue.  thumbs-up.gif

Thanks, I just downloaded Abandoned Armies, and just the Readme file has me all excited. This is EXACTLY what I was hoping to find.
