Sh00tingStar 0 Posted March 3, 2005 Hi, i searched this forum but i didnt find any thread which helped me. So, here's my problem: I installed the OFP:GOTY-Edition and patched it (with the 1.91 from the cd and with the 1.96 from the net ), when i wanna start the game, it only says that there is an error in OpFlashPreferences.exe/FlashpointPreferences.exe in 0x00096andsoon. I even deinstalled/reinstalled the game and tried it without a patch - the same. There's another conspicuous thing: i don't have any *.cfg files... and i remember i had some, when i played OFP:CWC Greetings, Sh00tingStar
shadow 6 Posted March 3, 2005 Have you tried uninstalling, re-installing and only using this patch? It patches directly from 1.75 to 1.96 for the GOTY edition.
theavonlady 2 Posted March 3, 2005 There's another conspicuous thing: i don't have any *.cfg files... and i remember i had some, when i played OFP:CWC File Flashpoint.cfg is created when you run either the preferences program or start OFP. File Userinfo.cfg in your playerID subfolder (Users\yourPlayerName\Userinfo.cfg) is created when you run OFP and when you define a new player name.
Sh00tingStar 0 Posted March 3, 2005 @ theavonlady ok, thanks @ Shadow just did what you said, it's still the same... i have the newest forceware and the newest motherboard drivers... i don't understand it...
theavonlady 2 Posted March 3, 2005 Copy file FlashpointPreferences.exe directly from your CD to OFP's folder and try again. If that fails, what motherboard do you have? Does it contain a VIA chipset? Have you checked your hard disk for errors?
Sh00tingStar 0 Posted March 3, 2005 I copied the FlashpointPreferences from the CD to my OFP folder, it's still the same, even if I try to start the FlashpointPreferences.exe from the cd! Yes, my motherboard contains a VIA-Chipset and i downloaded the newest drivers just an hour ago And yes, i check my hard disk for errors (scandisk). [edit]i will search now for my OFP:CWC cd and try to copy the preferences exe from that cd, perhaps it will work... [/edit]
theavonlady 2 Posted March 3, 2005 Yes, my motherboard contains a VIA-Chipset and i downloaded the newest drivers just an hour ago That might not be enough. Search The FAQ for "via". Quote[/b] ]i will search now for my OFP:CWC cd and try to copy the preferences exe from that cd, perhaps it will work... No! The old and new versions are not the same. This is not a solution. Sh00tingStar 0 Posted March 3, 2005 I searched your FAQ for "via", theavonlady, and i found a few things... at first: Quote[/b] ]Before you download the VIA 4-in-1 drivers, however, Spitfire says that there's a BIOS setting that, if needs to be changed, might resolve your problem without going any further. Make sure that the BIOS "DRAM Clock" value is set to "HCLK" and not to "HCLK + PCICLK". Essentially what this does is to lower you RAM's clock speed to 100mhz. Just remember to set it back to what it should be once you're done installing or updating OFP. hm, well ok... i went into my bios and searched... the only thing i found was: <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">DRAM Clock (MHz) Â Â Â Â Â Â Â 166-DDR333 and it was disabled, so i cant change it! this via 4in1-drivers are installed already... i also did a virus scan (with newest updates of my virus scanner)... and, what else, still the same my important hardware things (perhaps it will help): CPU: amd athlon xp 2800+ (running on ~2.1GHz) RAM: 1024 mb ddr Graphics Card: geforce fx 5600 xt (with newest forceware)
Sh00tingStar 0 Posted March 3, 2005 a bit more...: accidently i hit "cancel" instead of "ok" at the error message, and my c++ debugger started there, c++ tells me: "Unhandled exception in OpFlashPreferences.exe (GLIDE3X.DLL): 0xC0000096: Privileged Instruction." ok, at the "error"-line (in the debugger; line "01217BA2") stands: <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">01217BA2   out         dx,eax hm, ok, seems like it has something to do with sound!? i dont know it really... but two lines below the "error"-line, it says: <table border="0" align="center" width="95%" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0"><tr><td>Code Sample </td></tr><tr><td id="CODE">01217BA8   in         eax,dx perhaps the "order" in the error-line is wrong? in the error line there is "dx,eax", in the working-line there is "eax,dx"... hm... so far so good, i searched for a "glide3x.dll" and i found one at c:\winnt\system32 (dont panic, i have win2k, not winnt ;))... what a surprise... (perhaps its nonsense what i post here, but perhaps someone can handle this and it leads to a solution, who knows...) another idea: can anyone send me his/her Flashpoint.cfg (by mail)? Perhaps its a bad idea, but perhaps it will work then, because when i created an (of course empty) Flashpoint.cfg, OFP only says that there is not entry in this .cfg, but the error message from the preferences doesnt show up anymore... -------------------- EDIT okok, one step further! i searched with google for Flashpoint.cfg - and i found a .cfg file copypasted it into my empty Flashpoint.cfg - and... *drdrdrdr* it works... half... normal OFP works (OperationFlashpoint.exe), but Resistance doenst work... the preferences still dont work...!
