Thunnder Bunny 0 Posted April 4, 2004 Ok, I've seen this stuff on a TV show late at night that was all about alternative fuels. The show was made by a minister/ preacher who appears to believe that nobody should depend on foreign oil or have to live on a power grid. They made a generator that makes fuel from water, kinda like pure hydrogen except they make it by putting voltage through carbon rods in water. The resulting gas can run any combustion engine that could run on propane. Hell even the generator that made the fuel ran on it. They had cars running on it and several other vehicles. Even after seeing it I didn't know if I could believe it. My question has anyone else heard of it or seen it in action? And if it is true why are hydrogen fuel cell only cars still being pursued? Here is a link to some info. http://www.gsenet.org/library/07eng/aquafuel.php
turms 0 Posted April 4, 2004 As I understand, the reaction to make hydrogen energy, needs more energy to produce the reaction, than it actually produces.
der bastler 0 Posted April 4, 2004 Sounds like ordinary water gas. Google was my friend: http://genchem.chem.wisc.edu/demonst....ion.htm http://www.encyclopedia.com/html/w1/watergas.asp Quote[/b] ]colorless poisonous gas that burns with an intensely hot, bluish (nearly colorless) flame. The gas is a mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen with very small amounts of other gases, e.g., carbon dioxide, and is almost entirely combustible as a result. Water gas is so named because of the use of water (steam) in its preparation. This process involves treating white-hot hard coal or coke with a blast of steam; carbon monoxide and hydrogen are formed. The gas is manufactured in vast quantities for commercial use. It is of much importance in the preparation of hydrogen and as a fuel in the making of steel and in other industrial processes, e.g., the Fischer-Tropsch process . Ironsight 1 Posted April 4, 2004 It excists and it electrolyses water and splits it into gas and something else. Space shuttle's use this gas too and in Amsterdam they want to use it on a type of bus. One problem is that the gas is highly explosive and burns invissible. So it's pretty dangerous to use. From the linked article: Quote[/b] ]Beyond buckyballs, a new carbon electrode arc technology is now beingused UNDERWATER to produce ultra-clean-burning, low-cost alternative synthesis gas, or syngas called AquaFuel. This simple method of producing a hydrogen/carbon/oxygen gas holds great promise for energy and chemical production. AquaFuel is being produced in demonstration units and is now undergoing tests in engines and research labs. Compare it to the water gas definition above... Seems to me they reinvented the wheel and produce water gas with an electric ark discharge instead of hot coal...
