Is 3rd person really the preferred view?

I'm curious about everybody's opinion. It seems the developers strongly feel third person is the way to go, I personally think a first person view mode would make the game a lot more immersive. Which would prefer to play in if both options were available?

 

I love the game but fights can be pretty ridiculous sometimes. The game has such an epic level of realism but watching the fights play out is so far from it. Its mostly hiding around a corner waiting to ambush. First person mode forces the player to put themselves in the eye of the enemy if they want to see them, and it's a lot more fair that way and realistic. At least maybe some sort of option so players could choose?
