Calling sp abort/retry/options/save dialog actions

Ok, here's the deal, in one portion of my mod/mission, the player cannot be allowed to walk around normally, he must be stuck in a dialog of this nature:

Of course, when you use scripting commands to see if a dialog is open, and reopen it if escape is pressed, that means that the traditional escape menu can't be used. This is bad, because the player would then never be able to call these actions (and never be able to quit, etc)

So, what I would like to do is to have these buttons built in to a 'main menu' of my own design, embedded in the above dialog... of course, I have no clue how to call these dialogs, or if it's even possible.

There are a few ways around this, but they're all pretty non-intuitive, involving bizzare combinations of the action menu and black screens... I would like to be able to at the evry least call up the 'escape' dialog in single player... any ideas?
