pulse5 0 Posted November 29, 2002 I have been messing around with O2 for a little while, creating just some odd shapes and... well this program is very weak. On the modeling side anyway. Missing a lot of features many other free 3D software have... Kind of a half-ass attempt by BiS to let people make their own improvements for the game. Since im a big Lightwave user, and am happy to know that O2 (and OPF) supports 4 point poly's, i would like to know if there is any direct converter or even export plugin that lets me port my Lightwave models directly into P3D, which i can than make the animations proxys to use in the game. Since i dont care about doing the coding and all that using O2. I am aware there is an OBJ to P3D to OBJ converter, but it is not only unsupported by the author, i havent fully tested it yet - so there could be major problems, and it doesnt look like the author is going to be making any updates. So i was wondering if anyone knows of a program that i can convert Lightwave LWO files to P3D without going the extra steps through this software. Also, if at all possible, is there any way of changing the key config or color scheme?
PiNs_Da_Smoka 0 Posted November 29, 2002 As a lightwave use also, I have searched high and low for shortcuts to get my models into p3d (although the task is not that difficult in the first place ) But, i can positively that no one has made a plugin for LW to convert to p3d. Hell, its even hard to find a plugin decent enough to convert to .3ds through LW (all LW users no how much the built in converter sucks). So, it seems that you are stuck with the daunting task of saving your .lwo, converting to .3ds with whatever proggy you use ( i recommend Deep Exploration) and then importing to .3ds. I know its so utterly difficult, but thats all there is :-P
pulse5 0 Posted November 29, 2002 Actually i was well aware of Deep Exploration, and happen to be one lucky user who got my hands on it a while back when it was cheap... like $50 or so. And was just thinking that when you wer talkin about the poor 3DS converter in Lightwave. Not that i blame them for having one, since its not really up to them for having it (since 3DSMax doesnt have any LW importer as it is)... But NewTek being really good guys still have one anyway. And the program i have actually converts to OBJ, which is a Maya or Softimage file... i forget, but it supports 4 point poly's!.. anyway it takes that and converts to P3D... (and back also - works on all P3D's i came across Perhaps i should check with the Lightwave community @NewTek's website and see if they have anything up their sleeve for this.. PiNs_Da_Smoka 0 Posted November 29, 2002 Just did a quick little run-through of flay.com and came across this plugin. Although i have not tried to import a converted .3ds file into O2 yet, it seems to work pretty good, a big step up from the internal converter in LW. Maybe this will help. P.S. .obj is a Wavefront file, whom makes Maya. And from what i have been told, is a very basic type of file thus why so many programs are easily compatible with it.
