1950-1965 mod

Recommended Posts

i would like to know if there's a mod around which covers the time of the 50ies and early 60ies? maybe about the korea war and the cuba crisis. i think it would be quite interresting to play a game which covers those conflicts which are quite unusual in the field of gaming. a mixture of WW2 and vietnam. smile.gif

I'd love to be able to play a "Bay Of Pigs" scenario, from both sides point of view. All in all it was not long enough to be made in a campaign though, and the crisis itself consisted mostly of the US and the USSR playing a nuclear game of chicken, a U-2 being shot down, and in the end a quiet deal whereby the USSR took their missiles out of Cuba and a few months later - so as not to seem connected to the crisis and allowing Washington to claim a victory on the issue - the US took their nukes out of Turkey......hmmm....nuked Turkey....damn, I think I'm hungry smile.gif.

well the cuba crisis could be the background for a campaign. some CIA guys who managed to stay alive after the failed landing in the "Bay Of Pigs", could be searching for the nukes in order to destroy them in case of war or something. biggrin.gif

there would be no problem to write a plot for a korea campaign. smile.gif only proper addons are needed to realize this mod!!

And something better than WrpEdit to produce the island of Cuba. biggrin.gif

You wouldn't be able to do the regular US army of the time properly.

In them days the had an organisational system based on five; I think it was called pentad. Eg, for tanks, 5 vehicles make a platoon, 5 platoons make a company, five companies a battalion, 5 battallions a regiment... you get the idea. it was take all the way to the top; the pentagon was actually built with this organisation in mind; talk about obsessive!

Anyways, you see the problem; 5 tanks to a platoon = 15 troops. OFP wouldn't be able to handle it.

Of course, that doesn't mean you couldn't have any number of spooks running around in French Lizard camo and boonie hats, packing Swedish Ks.

Pentatomic was the term. Hackworth trashed the idea in his book.

A few brave souls managed to kill the idea before it really took hold and the US Army returned to 'triangular' organization.
