Mouse Input = drop to 10-15 FPS?

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

After the latest ArmA 3 stable update, I am now seeing behavior where after a decent amount of time (30-45 minutes) my game will start lagging/stuttering horribly in MP. I have noticed that it only seems to drop in framerate if I move around my mouse, so something about mouse input is causing massive drops (down to 10-15 FPS). I can even see this in the Video menu when I move the mouse versus not moving it (start moving mouse and drops to 10-15 FPS, stop moving it and jumps back up to normal). Restarting the game fixed the issue for the remainder of the mission.

Anyone else see this behavior? I do use mods but none have really updated since the new patch, and I never experienced this behavior before with the same mod set.

No one else has this problem? Still affecting my gameplay.

It seems that using keyboard or mouse input causes the stutter/lag, but not using TrackIR for some reason.

Logitech mouse?

Found this:

"Fixed this. Took me all of a half hour to figure it out.

I was having the same jerky stuttering when I played, but only when using the mouse.

I plugged in my Xbox 360 controller and the game played smoothly with no jerking at all, but attempting to use the mouse at all made the game stutter badly as if it had a very low framerate. Moving without using the mouse was still smooth without frame stuttering.

It was the polling rate. I had mine set to 1000 and it worked great in any other game I've played without stuttering. Bioshock does not care for a high polling rate.

I went into my mouse driver and turned the polling rate down to 125 and now the game runs smoothly without jerky motions when I look with the mouse regardless of sensitivity settings.

All you should need to do is turn down the polling rate on your mouse and the problem should be fixed."

Thanks for the reply. I do use a Logitech mouse with a high poll rate, but I haven't actually changed that since before ArmA 3 was even in Alpha, so I don't think that's the issue here. It only started happening after the 1.32 patch.

Also, it isn't just stuttering as if there is low FPS, it actually causes real low FPS. Like if I go into the Video menu, I can see I'm getting 60 FPS or so (in an ideal scenario). Once the issue occurs, if I start moving around the mouse, even just in the menu, my framerate will rapidly drop into the 15-20 FPS range. I stop moving the mouse and it goes back up to 60. In game what this means is if I'm standing still, everything seems fine, but when I start moving/looking around, it becomes unplayable.

Restarting the game fixes the problem (for a time), so it's clearly something to do with the game since no other games exhibit this behavior.
