analogue controls for vehicle accelerator and brakes

The lack of analogue controls for vehicle acceleration and braking has always seemed like a bizarre omission. Even more so with the karts addon. Considering there's an analogue steering control, it just seems odd. Anyone know why they're missing?

(Bit puzzled that I can't find any other posts asking this simple question... makes me wonder if I'm missing something!)
