How to start friendly AI engine and then leave after loaded with units

I've looked through the forums for topics on this. I've come across a few but none that addressed a solution to what I am trying to achieve. Here's my goal:

I want a friendly AI helicopter to start it's engines, wait for troops to load, and then proceed to take off and drop those units off at waypoint. I know how to transport and insert troops. I have no problem with that. What I am having an issue with is starting the AI engine and delaying the takeoff until it is loaded with troops.

What I thought of, was to add a waypoint but set the helicopters speed to 0 using limitSpeed and use it in a while loop, so that the helicopter does not go anywhere while the troops are loading. Then once the troops are finished loading, break the loop and continue to the waypoint as normal.

I am fairly new to scripting so I'm not able to actually put my idea into form. Any help is greatly appreciated.
