FalkenEye 10 Posted February 6, 2014 I know my concern is probably old as I-dont-wanna-know-what but I'm really wondering if we are going to see a wider variety in vehicles in A3; as someone who used to fly fixed-wing aircraft for a living, I'm especially wondering if we are gonna see any more of those (and I don't really consider the Buzzard a jet... I mean it's nice but I would name it something close to "light support aircraft", it has little in common with modern attack aircraft)... John Spartan's and Saul's F-18 is a great mod but it keeps dropping my fps into abysmal rates so I'm hoping to see some action from the side of BI on that. I understand BI wanting to make the game a bit more compact than Arma 2 (which could be overwhelming for newcomers), still I feel once you got yourself into Arma 2, Arma 3 feels like driving a minivan having driven a sports car for your whole life (no pun intended ;-) ) I'm also quite aware that BI has for certain made statements about this (wider and more general) topic already, however I wasn't able to actually find any of these. So, does anyone know if we are actually gonna see the "vehicular onslaught" coming with the final campaign DLC (which in my opinion, would only make sense...)? chortles 263 Posted February 6, 2014 Oh, it's yet another jet thread... The devs have said that BLUFOR and OPFOR jets are coming with the third campaign DLC, but right now it seems like they're just adding "light support aircraft" for BLUFOR and OPFOR, if this render of CSAT's jet (from the Arma 3 art lead's Q&A) is anything to go by, even if they're higher-end than the Buzzard... if you're thinking of the Warthog and the Frogfoot by "modern attack aircraft" though, they're actually outliers while "light support aircraft" (or other jets with air-to-ground weapons) are more the norm. FalkenEye 10 Posted February 6, 2014 Thanks for that information, I'm looking forward to see those aircraft join the armory. Although I'd say that render is a big step up from the Buzzard by just looking at the (amount of) payload it's carrying. Don't get me wrong, I was glad to see the Buzzard having joined the armory back then, simply to see what the flying physics in Arma 3 are like, however I'm glad that with these new ones coming up, there will be some jets that don't require R&R every single time you made a bomb run. (Again, no pun against the Buzzard, it's obviously built after the L-39 Albatros, which is however still an aircraft with very limited capabilities). Still, I'm not sure I'm getting your point about the Warthog and the Frogfoot ;-), as those are the very definition of CAS aircraft, although I'm looking forward to (what I'm expecting will be) multirole fighters with the third DLC. Heck, the seeming board consensus is that the render's jet is modeled on the Yak-130... which itself is also a "light support aircraft" in design and role, an also-subsonic trainer that can carry weapons. :p
