Rhubarbman 0 Posted September 5, 2002 This comes from the DoD-Mod Courtsy of Ian and Gitfinger, "I would ask kindly that EVERYONE visits the following page daily, and donates money to the NSPCC to help abused children" http://www.nspcc.org.uk/donate-4-free/default.asp "It will literally take you 5 seconds in a morning, and if all 370 members clickeh, that's Å7.40 per day, or a smidge over Å2,700 a year Cheers iAn"
theavonlady 2 Posted September 5, 2002 Exactly what's behind this? Who gives them the money and why do they want us to click on the site in order to give it?

The family is our first institution after all.
Rhubarbman 0 Posted September 5, 2002 they are the only charity that can actually take action for the kids i think.
Tex -USMC- 0 Posted September 5, 2002 In the EU, whats the general criteria for an abusive family?

You certainly aren't allowed to damage a child or be in any other way cruel. This is fair I think, but abuse is a long running thing isn't it.
Tex -USMC- 0 Posted September 5, 2002 Im just curious- because I know that because of cultural differences between America and Europe the standards that define an 'abusive' family might uh, be a bit different. For example: I think that kids should be smacked around every once in a while if they deserve it. For example, when I got out of line, I got spanked (many times lol) and once got my mouth washed out with soap. In retrospect, I deserved it all, and dont consider any of it abusive. But others might think otherwise.
Rhubarbman 0 Posted September 5, 2002 yea i would say spanking is ok imho but im thinking the NSPCC takes u down if ur abusing as in brusing your kids if there crying or for no reason just beating up on them, if u lived in the uk they have had some really powerfull ads that have brought a tear to my eye on more than 1 occation

I don't know about the mouth washing though, but if discipline is given allong with love and for a good reason it can't be called abuse in my book. I also wouldn't lump European cultures together, I saw an Italinan man give his small child two real wallops for breaking a plate in a cafe by accident, no-one batted an eyelid but the child was consolled by it's mother and the cafe owner gave him a cake. You wouldn't see a scene like that all over Europe.
Tex -USMC- 0 Posted September 5, 2002 Well, down here, child abuse can range from hitting your child with a closed fist repeatedly, to getting drunk and whaling on yer kid with a two by four
Guest Posted September 5, 2002 I Sweden all types of physical violence towards children is classified as abuse, even spanking. I don't however think they prosecute people for that..

From Portugal to Finland there are alot of differing and ancient cultures.
