Terain detail and other visual settings

Recommended Posts

I have just upgraded my graphics card from a KyroII to a GeForce 4 Ti. By doing this I can now play with terrain detail set to High / Very High depending on View Distance (always max but Very high is not available at ~> 900).

My questions is when in Very High mode the terrain is "bumpy" and I can crawl close to objectives without seeing certain things - e.g. Other players / Buildings etc.

Now when I used my Kyro II I had terrain set on low, in this mode the terrain was fairly flat - crawling was pointless as you could be seen from a large distance.

This surely makes the game slightly unfair, as someone playing in High may think they are hidden from view (because they cant see x), but player X is on low detail and can clearly see the player on High Detail.

The same is true for smoke, I use smoke alot when I am playing to conceal my movements, but often I have been shot thru my smoke, when I ask how the other player sais they have clouds / smoke turned off. Is this not a form of cheating as well?

Im not complaining, just after your comments.

Thanks

Okay, for 1, the client has no control over the terrain detail in a multiplayer game- the server does. So everyone will be playing with the same terrain detail, therefore, you have nothing to worry about. Second, yes, people can see through smoke by turning cloudlets off, and I do consider it an exploit, thats why I dont do it, and I call out anyone I see doing it in multiplayer

Sorry, I thought that terrain detail was able to be set on the client in multiplayer. I knew setViewDistance was fixed.

So I could "cheat" by setting terrain detail to Very high on my server and so those with poor systems would be at a major disadvantage. tounge.gif Joke btw.

Smoke needs to be fixed as well, although I start to get a slow down if I though more than about 5 smoke grenades. So not sure how less capable systems would fair.
