Online Wasteland questions - Comms, Invantory and roles?

Recommended Posts

Ok guys,

Three questions.

The first,

How am i hearing people talk online in Wasteland without their name lighting up in the bottom left corner signifying that they are talking in either the group or global or side chat?

Ill set this up a bit. I was with a group of people, well following really, and they were all talking. i could hear them talk but i had no idea even the name of the people talking because the names were not popping up in the lower corner like i described above.

Another example of this was when i was killed by an enemy. He was able to taunt me which i could hear saying "bet you didnt think i would shoot through the window" as he was next to me looting my body. How can he talk so i can hear him without him being on the global channel?

What am i missing?

#2

What is the different in Wasteland between my inventory i get to by pressing "I" and the player inventory i have wen i push "`"

Sometimes i notice i have a medkit in my "player inventory" that i can use to heal myself but i cant use them to heal my friends.

I guess im just a bit confused why i have things in two different inventories.

Can someone clear this up for me?

#3

When starting a game on Wasteland, i can pick from a number of "roles". Among them are Marksman, Group leader, Explosive expert, and Medic or something like that.

What do these actually do for you and how do i use each role to their full potential?

Thanks guys, this is my first time playing an arma title and need a bit of help with the learning curve.

#1. You can hear the chatter of people that are close by. As in real life. Why it wasnt popping up. No idea.

#2 Best to ask in your version of wasteland thread

#3 From what I gather those arent really roles, they are slots for you to fill. Your role is what you want it to be. This isnt a pre-organized game like BF where x does this and that. Everyone can basically do everything. I rec you grab a sniper rifle, a long range scope, a short range optic, a rocket launcher, and a couple of rockets. That appears to be the optimal configuration.

Direct voice isn't a radio channel like group or side. It's just the voice of the player, hence, no name-tag.

And yes, enemy can hear you speak.

You can only hear people nearby if they are on Direct Channel and no names are supposed to pop up.

In A2, you can overhear a person speaking on a radio channel --if the lips are moving, it's heard on direct.

So am I to understand that there is a separate "direct" channel you go to by pressing the period button and that is only heard by nearby people? Or do you just speak into the mic and it is broadcast to those around you?

I just don't remember there being a direct channel. There may be but obviously I spend most of the time on side or group channel.

Yes, you need to have Direct selected or bound to a key to send, just like group or side. While sending, the white mic icon will appear.
