theuphonium 10 Posted June 20, 2013 Ok, so about a few weeks ago, I purchased Arma 2 Combined Operations off Steam. They finish downloading, and I am very anxious to play this game. I launch it, it then shows the loading screens and whatnot. I skip everything, and when I get to the original menu, instead of seeing the scenery the background is trying to depict, I get very thin scalene triangles scattered all over my screen. They just flicker, covering nearly 90% of my screen. They seem to move around in random locations, and it's all over the place. So, as the only visible thing on my screen is the menu box, I go into settings and try to lower as many unnecessary features I really don't care for. I am willing to sacrifice quality/graphics if it means the game will run smoothly. I put every setting I possibly could on low and/or very low. Anti-aliasing, shadows, etc. I then had the idea to go in-game to see if it went away, but it didn't. It still looked that same as my menu screen. I can't seem to find a solution to this. It might be a hardware problem that maybe some components don't have the capacity to run such games. Then again, I'm no hardware guy. I'm a software guy myself. Here are my specs: Processor: Intel® Core i5 CPU M430 2.27GHz 2.27GHz RAM: 4.00 GB (3.80GB usable) Graphics Card: Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator HD System type: 64-bit OS I have a huge feeling it may be my graphics card, but I can never trust myself as I am not a hardware person. Help in fixing this would be much appreciated, and even if there is no other solution than to buy new stuff, thanks anyway.
MissileMoose 10 Posted June 20, 2013 (edited) Unfortunately both your CPU and GPU seem too weak to run any modern games, let alone those in the Arma series. With your hardware there's very little you could do, nothing to achieve more than a handful of frames per second. I recommend taking a look at the threads listed below, your questions are more likely to be answered there with regard to purchasing new hardware. Try not to be surprised by the numbers, powerful machines cost money, sometimes even more than deposits for cars depending on what you're looking for. * The first link is under the Arma 3 section, I recommend using this thread for the discussion of hardware since it's the most active. Avoid posting specific Arma 2 issues here, instead use the last link. Will my PC run this? What CPU/GPU to get? What settings? What System Specifications?
