steam version and disc version not working with each other

hi me and my friend tried to play a private game today but when he tried to join mine it said connection lost. then he tried hosting and I tried joining but it said the same thing. I then noticed that the versions were both 1.59 but one of them was red. I have the steam version and he has the disc version. I was jsut wondering if there is anyway around this problem so we can still play together.

The Steam version can not be 1.59 as Steam always offers the latest version.

Maybe unless you disabled autopatching but than still you should not be able to download an old version from Steam. So, check your versions again.

Make sure you use the latest version so tell your friend to install the latest patch as well.

thanks for the speedy reply but in the multiplayer menu when I had clicked on his server that is what it said but I will still try and check versions
