Phoenix Soldiers - Tactical Gaming Group

Iron Front Co-op Gaming Squad

Phoenix Soldiers (PXS) have been hosting Iron Front no respawn co-op single mission events since November 2012 on their dedicated server, [PXS] PHOENIX SOLDIERS IRON FRONT SERVER, on Sunday at 20:00 GMT (UTC). We usually have between 10-12 players turn out for mission events.

We usually play single missions, with 1-3 tasks to complete, with a limited set of resources to help achieve these tasks. We select a team leader, whom runs the mission and the rest of the players work as a team, utilising Teamspeak 3 server: ts3.phoenixsoldiers.org or Click Here To Join TS3 Direct

We cherish our single lives in the mission, when trying to achieve these tasks and unless there's an unforeseen reason, we have a no respawn policy. This make's you concentrate very hard and play more as a team.

Phoenix Soldiers would like to invite more players, whom wish to play Iron Front co-op missions in the above style, into the mission events, held usually on Sunday's at 20:00 GMT (UTC)

Ideally, we would like players to have teamspeak, with a microphone and a firm grasp of the English language, in order for them and others to enjoy the mission events.

Please leave any questions or comments on the previous or up coming Co-op missions or about the "Phoenix Soldiers - Tactical Gaming Group" in a reply to this post on this forum or you can PM me or register on the Phoenix Soldiers - Tactical Gaming Group website for more details. www.phoenixsoldiers.com

Best wishes

Firstly, thanks to all the 13 people whom turned up, on time, last night for our co-op mission event at 20:00 GMT(UTC). It was fun and we had some really good fire fights. Everybody played really well and we all got on with the job.

For those other people whom could not make it on time, please drop into the Phoenix Soldiers Teamspeak 3 server and drop into the iron front channel to speak to a game admin whom will unlock the server for you and let you join the game. I saw many people trying to join the Phoenix Soldiers game server, after we had started the mission and locked the server, but they did not join our teamspeak 3 and come into our channel to announce themselves. Phoenix Soldiers Teamspeak3 - ts3.phoenixsoldiers.org or Click Here To Join TS3 Direct

Secondly, after playing IFL:44 with 10-15 people in the same teamspeak 3 channel, we are now experiencing communication issues. So, we need to experiment to find a solution. Dopies and Wild have made some suggestions on this matter. They propose the following way forward:

1. All players turn up to Teamspeak 3 in same IFL:44 channel at start of mission for briefing etc.

2. Mission leader and subgroup leaders are assigned. Players assigned to subgroups

3. After the briefing, mission leader and subgroup leaders remain in the same Teamspeak 3 channel

4. The subgroups including any vehicles break off into separate TS3 channels one for each subgroup.

5. All players, including leaders, once in the game and after the briefing, switch to using Direct Channel. This will mean, that if they are close togther geographically, the players can communicate with each other and not disturb others. Iron Front: Liberation 1944 has a voice chat built into the game, which allows better bandwidth balancing and 3D sound positioning in the game world. The

6. Once you are dead, you go to a separate channel (dead channel) until the mission restarts or is completed.

I think that this is a good idea and worth trying next Sunday.

In preparation for this experiment, can I ask that ALL players make sure that there TS3 push to talk key is not the same as their in game push to talk key.

Post your thoughts and comments on this matter.

I've included a guide for the in game comms below for your information.

Iron Front In Game Multiplayer Communication Guide

A multiplayer game is much more tactical and enjoyable when you can communicate with the other players. Iron Front: Liberation 1944 offers various tools to achieve this without needing to use external applications:

Channels

To ensure you don‘t get overwhelmed by radio chatter, the game uses several different communication channels.

• Global Channel – Communication to all players.

• Side Channel – Communication to all players on your side.

• Command Channel – Communication to all players on your side who currently command a group.

• Group Channel – Communication to all members of your command group.

• Vehicle Channel – Communication to all players in the same vehicle as you.

• Direct Communication – Communication to all players within earshot.

To switch to another channel press either . (period) or , (comma).

Text Chat

One method of communicating is sending and receiving text messages.

• To start typing a message, press / (forward slash).

• The Message Box appears, where you can type a message.

• Send the message by pressing Enter.

Typed messages are sent via channels. While typing a message, you can change the channel it will be sent to by pressing the Up Arrow and Down Arrow keys.

Voice Chat

Another method is Voice Chat, which is generally much faster, as you can keep playing while communicating with other players. If a microphone is set up, press and hold Caps Lock to commence broadcasting. Voice chat uses the same channels as text chat, and it follows the same rules as to who will be able to hear it.

Iron Front: Liberation 1944 has a voice chat built into the game, which allows better bandwidth balancing and 3D sound positioning in the game world.

@Everbody playing IFL:44 on Phoenix Soldiers - Teamspeak 3 channel commander settings were set up by many of the 15 people whom turned up on the IFL:44 mission event last night, which is good to see that people see the benefit of improved communication channels. It seemed to work very well for the mission event and I believe that it's worth repeating the same at the next mission on Sunday.

Regarding the channel commander settings for Teamspeak 3, it's only fair to expect that everyone, should have this set up. There are no predefined mission or squad leaders during our mission events. Therefore, it's only fair, that everybody, including newcomers and familiar players, are expected to do their turn at mission or squad leadership whilst playing on Phoenix Soldiers game servers.

Another reason, why all players must have channel commander set up in advance, is because mission and squad leaders do get killed in missions and therefore you may be asked to lead a squad or the mission, if they fall.

Please make sure that you have set up you TS3 channel commander setting before the next mission event.

I've posted a very quick 30 sec tutorial on how to set up you Teamspeak 3, as channel commander ready, for our co-op mission events.

See the tutorial below
