Steam question

Recommended Posts

I bought Combined Ops on steam. Now my hdd is about to die, so i was wondering if i can copy my Arma OA and Arma 2 folder to my new hdd. Will i have problems with FADE or Steam recongnizing it? As i dont want to have to dl everything again.

Thanks.

Copy the ARMA 2 and OA folders to the new hdd, install steam on the new hdd, start downloading ARMA 2 and OA and immediately pause downloading, move the ARMA 2 and OA folders inside steamapps\common, verify files for both games. Done.

You can copy ALL your steam games over this way:

1. Make a backup of just your "steamapps" folder

2. Make a NEW INSTALL of steam on the new HDD / new computer but do not start steam (or stop it if it starts)

3. Replace your "steamapps" folder entirely with the backed up one

4. Launch steam

Steam will appear for awhile to be downloading new copies of your games but then all of a sudden it will realize it already has all the files and your games will be available to play with no actual download required.

You may lose any configuration settings that the games write out to other locations. ArmA writes some stuff to your "Local Settings" I believe so you might want ot back that up too if you want to preserve the settings.

This will work for ALL your steam games not just ArmA.

just copy your Valve folder to the new HDD, then click on Steam.exe which will write to the registry the new location of steam.

you will just need to point desktop and start-menu Shortcut's to location of Steam.exe or delete the old Shortcut's then within steam select "desktop shortcut" for each game then drag and drop them into the start menu>all programs>steam

haven’t reinstalled steam or any games for years, i just do the above to move it around HDD's
