TL;DR: What game modes or mods would offer an experience with these characteristics (I've put the main ones in bold): large-scale combined arms battles with a strong focus on strategy between two or more conventional armies (as opposed to guerilla groups) with a commander role that sets the overall strategy and commands a large army with many units potentially with a top-down view of the map like in Silica to manage units on the ground with the ability to switch between different roles and control different players during the game (for example to take control of AI teammates after being incapacitated, or during the transport of troops from the HQ to the AO to avoid remaining idle for the duration of the trip) where the gameplay is open-ended and unconstrained (no pre-defined objectives etc.) where the game is won by taking control of territory and defeating the enemy through strategy and the depletion of their resources where the gameplay has a strong focus on strategy, and offers scouting, logistics and supply chains management (for vehicles, weapons, ammunition, even food, ...), an economy and resources management, etc. probably with base-building capabilities with the ability to fight the enemy through direct confrontation, but also through the disruption of their supply chains and the targeting of factories and power plants, etc. that can be played in multiplayer, but also in single player to practice that has a persistent save option, if one would like to play a long game over several sessions --- Hey everyone, I've played Arma 3 for about 50 hours and have spent a number of hours trying to learn about the different game modes on reddit and the web, but I'm struggling to really get started with the game. I've already done Bootcamp, Virtual Training modules, etc. I'm looking for a game mode where one can have large-scale combined arms battles with a strong focus on strategy. I'd like to be able to command a large army composed of multiple units where a player or group of players assumes the role of commander and sets the strategy for the team, and then directs units on the ground to execute the plan. I'd like to also include logistics and supply chains management, resources management, etc. I'd like the game mode to be unconstrained and open-ended, where one wins the battle by taking control of the territory until the enemy team cannot realistically take it back, runs out of resources (supplies, soldiers, ...) and is forced to declare defeat. I'd like to play in multiplayer, but also in single player to practice. I've come across a number of game modes and mods that look like what I'm looking for, but I couldn't find something that's an exact match. I've tried: Warlords, but having to take control of one sector at a time feels too rigid and constrained. It's not really open-ended. Capture The Island, but I haven't found many populated servers lately. I've tried BeCTI, but servers have low player counts and I seemingly can only control a single unit of about 8 AI soldiers at a time, even with the commander role. This makes for small-scale operations as opposed to large-scale battles. I also couldn't find a way to request transportation when I was stranded in the middle of nowhere. I couldn't find a way to call for reinforcements when my unit members were dead. This meant that I had to respawn all the time and my gameplay loop (as a newbie) looked like this: spawn vehicles and soldiers, drive 10 minutes from the HQ to the AO, try to take control of the zone, but get obliterated by the enemy AI in 30 seconds, rinse and repeat. It wasn't very fun. I also find it kind of hard to execute tactics with AI teammates. Maybe AI mods would help? Antistasi, but it seems to focus more on guerilla rather than conventional warfare. Invade & Annex, but I think (it was a long time ago) that it focuses more on assigned quests to complete rather than open-ended battles King of the Hill, but it doesn't really focus on large-scale battles and feels somewhat more arcade-like so to speak. I've yet to try (not sure if these actually match what I'm looking for): Arma Commander ALiVE KP Liberation and Liberation RX Field of War PromanA3 High Command Converter Drongos Command Enhancement Dynamic Universal War System Dynamic Recon Ops Direct Action TacBF Zeus Wargame RTS NR6 HAL I feel overwhelmed by the wealth of content to explore, so I'd be happy to get some advice from you guys to point me in the right direction. Could you please recommend me game modes and mods to get the experience that I'm looking for? If you could also recommend text or video guides for these modes and mods as well that would be awesome, as I find Arma 3 particularly difficult to get into compared to other games. Are there also specific keywords I can use to find a unit or a server that offers this kind of experience (not actual unit or server names as this is against the rules, but general terms to help me in my search)? Thanks a lot for the help guys!

ai strategy of attack
dayz better than most AAA games posted a question in Arma Reforger - Questions & Answers
Will the ai's be able to capture back objectives? Like the game gives you a timer and the timer tells you when they Will attack that base and from where, like they come with BTR'S or Cars to assault and capture the base back,Will that be implemented? And Will the ai wonder around patrolling the streets? I know that the Road blocks are a way for patrolling by the ai's but seeing a btr wonder around or a supply truck protected by 2 Cars would be so cool, like an objective that teels you to ambush a truck or steal a truck,Is that being considered? -

Its been 5 years... I still don't find the SP experience fun at all... I have been waiting since release for the AI to be fixed. I expected this to be tackled fast because not only is AI the star of the show in SP, you also have to depend on them. I waited a couple more years to pick back up Arma 3 to see if the AI has finally been fixed, and much to my disappointment its still embarrassing. I am playing the campaign again and guess what i still see? The AI is still terrible at navigation They don't communicated to other friendly AI, only to their squad. They don't have any initiative, I shouldn't have to micro the AI so hard... I want to give them basic orders... like: Defend this area, assault town form (direction), convoy, defend building, etc... AI won't follow precautions or find good cover when they are attacking. They don't think to rearm//repair/refuel any vehicles that need it. Helicopters cant simply land and let units out... most of the time they crash or land upside down. It's just ridiculous, I understand this game is huge and ambitious but there is a point where you no longer need more stuff. You just need to fix whats already there and the AI is still broken to this very day. What would make the AI super impressive, is strategic AI... Something that can give the AI squads across the entire game map strategic orders to help the military work in unison, and squad AI that can do proper tactics to follow the strategic AI. So if you have a squad not doing anything, have them called over to support an infantry division.... then have that squad get there by any means necessary (using any possible vehicles, etc...) and enter the area in a smart way. Imagine only having to draw up some orders on the map, assigning a squad or platoon to the orders, and have them carry out your master plan without needing tell them exactly what to do.... Even to the extent of using vehicles you assign them, so the AI will use transports or support vehicles properly. Also, have the strategic AI make use of planes/helicopters so the platoons/squads can call them in if necessary .... If you don't want AI to work with the strategic AI, then have an option to set that.... Arma 3 would probably be the only game I ever played! ... In all honesty though... I would be just fine too if they had some limited strategic ability.... so that way they aren't totally broken.. Here is something I want to see if nothing else, improved orders menu... its tedious to have to memorize which number gives them which set of orders... I know OFP:RD isn't even made by the same company, or affiliated but please take some pointers... their orders menu isn't the best but it's better then what I see in Arma 3 and it includes simpler orders that the AI seem to follow pretty well on their own.

[WIP] Westwall -- a World War 2 total conversion mod
gurdy posted a topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Westwall is a total conversion addon for ArmA 3 set in Western Germany during the last eight months of the Second World War. Currently, our focus is on creating our first terrain Ochsenkopf Trail, which is set during the stagnant fighting in the Hürtgen Forest. To accompany this, we are also developing a basic set of playable Fall 1944 US Army and German Heer units. Here is a general overview of our release plan: --Terrain: Ochsenkopf Trail 2x2km – Fall Version --Units: US/German Rifleman, Rifle Grenadiers, Submachinegunners, Machinegunners, and more. --Weapons: K98k, M1 Garand, M1/M1A1 Thompson, M3A1, MP40, and more. --Gear: US and German field gear, helmets, caps, and more. --Uniforms: US M1943 Field Uniform and German Reversible Winter Uniforms Beyond this initial content demo, we are in the planning stages of what we consider the ultimate goal of the Westwall project—creating interesting new ways for players to engage with the historical content of our subject. To better achieve this goal, we want to further work with historians in and around the Vossenack area and examine content outside of typical combat scenarios. While the majority of our effort will go towards developing assets for our combat gameplay, we are also discussing and prototyping scenarios that allow players to explore our maps and participate in activities that depict both historical combat and non-combat settings. In addition, we are working to find interactive ways to connect users to a wide range of text, video, and internet sources both in and out of the game covering topics ranging from soldier’s stories to information on local culture and history. While we are starting out our journey in the Hürtgen Forest, we hope to move through a selection of topics chronologically until the war ends. After Hürtgen, we hope to explore German-occupied Elsaß. This will undoubtedly be a long term project, but it is one we are very passionate about and we hope you will join us. Thank you.- 433 replies

So yesterday i had a decent run ( around 7k points ) and unlocked almost all characters ( except the Biker guy , cant unlock him for some reason ) and i was wondering which character should i start with now , last run i started with Ganzo "Dragon" he has a bow with arrows hunter pants and 2 awesome perks ( sprint and cold resistance ) which are very nice for veteran but now i can also choose Tom "Survivor" he starts with knife and backpack 3 slots also with Survivor and Hunter perks and Garry "Veteran" who starts with buletproof vest pistol some ammo sharpshooter and scout perks . which one of these are you choosing and why ? Imo Dragon is best perk wise both sprint and cold resistance are crucial for Veteran , Survivor has decent items at start but one perk is wasted on hunter Garry Veteran might be nice due to gun and 14 bullets he starts with however his perks are mostly good for 2nd island and above

Hello, I want each side to use the draw tool, in combination with markers and what not. Before entering the game, is this possible quite yet?

As promised last week here’s a small update on our work, and yes we’re working hard to deliver the best game possible! We have succeeded recently in updating the dynamic weather system. Which means there’ll be different weather and day time in the game which is already looking really impressive! Our weather system dynamically simulates this feature across the whole archipelago. There’s also a wind effect (for example on the trees). Daytime reflects the cycle of the Taurus moon as you can see it in the attached screens, we hope you all like the progress the game is making visually and are as excited as we are with the progress it’s making!
