    #GGMoments Contest Announcement

Salut mercenaries, We're happy to announce our second contest! This time it's all about capturing the perfect Argo moment, and you're all invited to participate. We can't wait to see your #GGMoments! Over these past few months, it's been my honor to watch over all of you, our community, and during that time I couldn't help but notice all of the amazing Argo-related videos. Whether these were reviews, guides, or simply highlights of skill, it made me realize something. We have so many skilled video creators and passionate players capturing Argo gameplay, and this is something that should be seen and appreciated! For this reason we now created the Argo #GGMoments contest. As you will read in the set of rules down below, this contest focuses on rather short videos, such as highlight reels or funny moments, that we've all come to love from video clips on YouTube, Twitch, and other video platforms. The Premise of the Contest: Capture, edit, and submit a video of a funny, lucky, unlucky or skill-packed moment(s) in Argo. The Rules of the Contest: Before sending the submission, please read the full set of our contest rules here rules. These official rules tend to be a bit of a complicated read, so I will try to outline the most important parts: Submission deadline: 17th October 2017, 09:00 CEST (GMT+1).. You can send as many videos as you want. If you want to update your entry, just send us the improved version again. Please submit your videos to competition@bistudio.com. We can only accept entries that provide us with a YouTube link and a download link to the video from a web-based repository (such as Dropbox, WeTransfer, Google Drive). The video must have a minimum resolution of 720P. The length of the Entries should be 15 to 120 seconds max. Please avoid intellectual property rights conflicts! (such videos will be rejected/disqualified) Use only gameplay footage from Argo PvP or PvE scenarios. If you wish to use music in your video, use Arma 3 or Argo soundtrack. All video submissions which follow the rules will be showcased on our website. The jury, consisting of Argo development team members, will pick the winners based on their highly subjective opinion. The Winners of the Contest will be announced on 24th October 2017. Last but not least, by sending us your contest submission, you agree with the contest rules. The Advice: Once you have thoroughly read through the rules, you will know what we look for, but also what may pose potential issues. Therefore, here are some more recommendations: Even though the game has PEGI rating 16+ and ESRB rating "M", please try to refrain from using derogatory language or motives. If you're unsure whether something will be considered inappropriate, it probably will be. Don't be afraid to capture bugs, if you encounter some which are exceptionally funny, we don't mind. (damn you ragdolls..!) I can't stress this enough: avoid intellectual properly conflicts. From our competitions in the past, we know that sometimes even really good videos need to be disqualified from the competition due to this reason. And what we are looking for? Show us how you experience Argo. Side note: I really like those unlucky videos (airdrop deaths are my favourite >: D) The Prize: I'm happy to say that the winner of the contest will receive an awesome set of Razer gaming gear! With that kind of equipment you will have no problem dominating the battlefield and experience many more #GGMoments! Here's a list of the exact prizes: 1st Place: Gaming Keyboard Razer Black Widow X Tournament Edition Gaming Mouse Razer DeathAdder Elite Gaming Mouse Mat Razer Gigantus Headphones Razer Kraken USB Argo T-shirt 2nd to 5th Place Argo T-Shirt The Conclusion: I am wholeheartedly convinced that you mercenaries, our community, will blow our minds with your creative submissions. If you're in any doubt about the competition rules or anything else, feel free to contact us on the above mentioned e-mail, or via our social media channels and forums. We'll be there to help! Lada Brabcová (Producer, Community Ninja) P.S. For those who are completely new to Argo, you're of course most welcome to participate in the contest as well. You can download and play Argo completely for FREE now on Steam!!

    Jets DLC Tournament

I've been practicing my flight skills with the Jets DLC recently and realized that there's not much practical use for the Jets assets outside of milsim and the occasional scenario (that i can think of), so i thought it might be kind of fun to go head on with another pilot, however I don't have any active friends who own the Jets DLC. So here's my proposal, I host a server and hold some sort of tournament. I haven't ironed out how it would work yet which is partially why I made this post, as well as to see if anyone would be interested. Some things that need to be worked out are whether it would be 1v1 matches or Team Matches, how many rounds would be held per each competitor, how the jets would be chosen, etc. So i've set up a little poll to determine how the tournament would be structured and it can be found here. If you have anything to add, or want to help set it up please comment, if you want to compete simply join this steam group. If the poll ends up selecting teams the teams will be assembled at random, though they can have certain members upon special request if you want to go into it with your friends or something. There won't be any reward for winning as i'm broke af, however I do plan on recording the whole thing and uploading it onto my tiny YT channel so that could be considered a small amount of publicity for the winner. I'll update this post with dates, and poll results however a majority of the planning will take place in the steam group. Edit : There may be a reward depending on how many victors there are (there can be multiple victors if teams are chosen) and if there're enough games to go around.

  4. This is an idea more for the Devs because you would need to have parameters set and locked in the editor for this idea so editors cannot go over the quota of units allowed etc. For TLDR peeps; A mission making contest where there are hard-limits for mission makers (Load the PREQ mission and edit it into a creative mission) each mission will look similar to one another, but how mission maker makes the most of assets given will be different. Same 'Mission Objective' for every mission maker. 48 hour competition (24hrs for Mission maker, 24hrs for voting/players), Forum Poll rating system. What if we had a monthly competition where a specific location/area is chosen and you have a limited amount of units and types inc static defenses. If the location is going to be in an area with no fixed buildings some defenses can be added eg. a FOB there would be a preset custom composition that you have to use in the mission and perhaps a set number of sandbag walls you can add where you like etc, set up set number of static defenses etc. The goal is every mission maker has the same limits, and make the best mission with those assets. The player limit could be 1-3. The objective could be given before the competition to edit a mission, and has to be the same for everyone, a SINGLE objective. Eg. Rescue VIP, Obtain documents, Steal X, Destroy Z etc whatever. A competition could be held over a weekend, Saturday for the mission makers and Sunday for the players. Player limit (Coop of 1-3) are to play. Missions have to be uploaded to workshop (perhaps a special filter tag for them) before the deadline. An hour before the playing begins after the deadline to submit the mission, the uploaded entries are all listed on the BIS forums in Poll form (or something similar) where players can vote for their favorite mission or better still give a 1-10 rating. At the end, all the missions rated 10 will be played by some of the devs or judges to pick the top winning 3 (1st place, 2nd etc) or something a little more elab. eg. with ratings for creativity, fun and how easy/hard it was. Even though the mission will look the same, eg. same location (within the set marker radius the PREQ mission file has as the AO) there might be a custom FOB used, it might be allowed to be placed differently with the AO) the mission goal will be the same, so it would be interesting as a player knowing everything will be similar and see how creative the mission maker got to make it as hard as he can for the player (within the rules). The ultimate goal for the Mission makers is to make the mission as hard as possible but winnable. I think as a mission maker having a limit would be interesting and also might mean you get a mission made much quicker than your usual ones. There could be a 24 hour window for the mission to get made. You can't really cheat, because the rule-set and limits wont be announced until it starts. The editor would need to be set so the parameters are enforced, don't think this idea would work otherwise. And maybe no scripting is allowed?, because cheating could occur with that. Perhaps the mission is made by BIS or select individuals in the form of all the units are placed on the location for the mission and any assets the mission maker is allowed to use also added, and this is saved as a standard editable mission. And the mission makers can just re-arrange them, setup waypoints etc..which would be a faster way to start. Or maybe down the track if this idea takes, the competition could have a Build points added to the Eden Editor (when this mode is switched on) and you can choose what units you would like but each has a 'Build' cost, so you might have fewer units but better equipped etc. Not a new idea, but could make things more interesting...both for players and mission makers involved. Another idea to add on to this one, is having a series of competitions where the different competition missions are linked to a loose story line, after several competition events have passed (eg. 4 events) the all the top (1#) winning entries of each event/competition are connected together into a single mini-campaign.
  5. I feel bi-weekly scripting competitions here and there would be beneficial to the community, being educational and rewarding to everyone. We're all able to judge and critique each other's work as well as ask questions. To keep this short and to pilot the idea, here's a problem due by the end of the month: Create a system which allows the retrieval of static objects (objects that won't move) that were placed in the editor (any object from allMissionsObjects), given a position and a radius (in meters). Input example: [[5165.23, 2501.01, 0], 50] call TAG_GetNearObjects; The more optimized, the better. Share your solution as a zipped mission or just paste the code.
  6. here´s one for you... I have this Sensor-Class in my mission.sqm class Item0 { position[]={4691,0.436,13432}; a=200; b=200; rectangular=1; activationBy="WEST"; repeating=1; interruptable=1; age="UNKNOWN"; name="sensor1"; expCond="(vehicle player) in thislist;"; expActiv="sensor1= [] execVM ""scripts\awesome\sensor_enter.sqf"";"; expDesactiv="terminate sensor1; titleText [""You've left the Sensor."", ""PLAIN DOWN"", 3];"; class Effects; }; All is fine, works great, hooray! Now I want to start a script on leaving the sensor... I figured changing it to: class Item0 { position[]={4691,0.436,13432}; a=200; b=200; rectangular=1; activationBy="WEST"; repeating=1; interruptable=1; age="UNKNOWN"; name="sensor1"; expCond="(vehicle player) in thislist;"; expActiv="sensor1= [] execVM ""scripts\awesome\sensor_enter.sqf"";"; expDesactiv="sensor1= [] execVM ""scripts\awesome\sensor_leave.sqf"";"; class Effects; }; Computer says NO... Sensor is broken. Strangely enough, I failed to find a proper documentation about the sensor stuff, esp. "expDesactiv". Anybody got an idea how to fire a script on ENTERING and LEAVING a sensor?
  7. I'm starting to mess around in terrain editing. I've started with a wrp successfully converted to pew, opened with terrain builder, done my edits, re exported. Using existing config.cpp etc, keeping naming intact. Ground texture is white/missing see below http://i.imgur.com/6MKRN4M.jpg (257 kB) And my rpt is spammed with Unknown terrain material Unknown terrain material Unknown terrain material Unknown terrain material Unknown terrain material Unknown terrain material Unknown terrain material Unknown terrain material Unknown terrain material Unknown terrain material Unknown terrain material Unknown terrain material Unknown terrain material Unknown terrain material Unknown terrain material Unknown terrain material What causes this? I'm just trying to figure out WHERE this happens. Read so many outdated guides and like my brain is swollen 10x Thanks
  8. Good news everybody, it's that time again for me to organise this week's live stream. This week is going to be focussed around our releases to the Development Branch of Helicopter sling loading and Firing from vehicles. It will begin at 1pm Central European Time on Friday. So we are going to be having a little fun competition. This competition will be split into three rounds. The first round will be made up of eight teams, where each team will be assigned a hostile team they will compete against to proceed to the second round. The Second round will then be four teams, then the final will be just two teams. Each round will give the teams different methods of eliminating each other however the objective will always be to have the last man alive, deaths due to bugs, disconnection and everything else counts. Teams will be made up of up to four people, the matches will start at around 1pm CET on Friday 26th. We will live stream each game on our server so we can't give absolute times to teams but I'll publish a rough guide for times late on Thursday or first thing on Friday. How will the matches work? In each game, each team will have a developer playing with them, they can take any role you want them to you just need to tell us when you get into game. If you lose a game you are out, winners will proceed to the next round. What will happen in the matches? In the first round each team will have a Mohawk and an assault boat (Small rubber dinghy), all but one of team will get into the boat which will then be sling loaded. They must then eliminate all of the enemies. Round two will require both teams to mount separate MH-9s and shoot down the other team. Round three will be explained on the stream to the finalists and the audience. So if you have a team of four that can definitely attend, please post your names below and I'll sort you out with a spot, if your an individual and would like to take part in it, then put your name down and I'll do my best to arrange you into a team. There is a limit of 8 teams, I'll also have two back up teams should anyone not turn up. THIS WILL BE RAN ON THE DEVELOPMENT BRANCH

  12. - Bohemia Interactive, creators of the critically acclaimed Arma series and the standalone version of DAYZ, today announce the €500,000 Make Arma Not War content creation contest for Arma 3. With cash prizes ranging from €20,000 to €200,000, spread across four different categories, Bohemia Interactive challenges people to deliver their best work yet - and potentially move onto the radar of hundreds of thousands of Arma 3 players. Using the game as their platform, people can compete in four different categories: Total Modification, Singleplayer Game Mode, Multiplayer Game Mode, and Addon. The headline prize will be awarded to the winner of the Total Modification category, where the sole victor will be taking home €200,000. In the other categories, prize money is divided between 1st place (€50,000), 2nd place (€30,000), and 3rd place (€20,000). Projects which show a lot of potential might also be offered a contract by Bohemia Interactive, whether they have won the contest or not. “We’re delighted to be running a contest of such an incredible scope. The Make Arma Not War contest was brought to life to support our dedicated community of content creators, and stimulate the exciting culture of creativity that has formed over the yearsâ€, said Ivan Buchta, Creative Director at Bohemia Interactive, and one of the contest organizers. “Of course, with the stakes being this high, we’re expecting people to raise the bar – and we hope Arma 3 players will be there with us, to boost morale, and enjoy the fruits of the contestants’ hard labor.†In addition to the €500,000 in cash prizes, Bohemia Interactive is also proud to announce a unique collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), who will be handing out the Health Care in Danger Special Award. Given to the entry which covers the topic of ‘health care in danger’ the best, the winner(s) will go on a one-week trip to an ICRC mission in a foreign country, organized by the ICRC. While the application period is scheduled to open in 2014, people are already welcome to start working on their project. The closing date for submissions is October 28, 2014, after which a jury of Bohemia Interactive representatives and other industry professionals will begin to evaluate the finalists in each category (10 in the Total Modification/Multiplayer Game Mode/Addon categories, 20 in the Singleplayer Game Mode category). The winners will be announced on January 15, 2015. More details, including how people can cast their vote and support their favorite projects, are to be announced at a later date. “With the launch of the first Arma game in 2001, we’ve laid the foundation for our series’ long-standing history in user-content and modifications. It has led us to enjoy many amazing creations, among which is the popular DAYZ modâ€, said Bohemia Interactive’s CEO Marek Spanel. “Support for mod-making has always been a priority, and with Arma 3, our goal is to take it to the next level. The Make Arma Not War contest, as well as Arma 3’s integration of the Steam Workshop, the updated EULAs, and our refreshed Arma 3 tool suite, is all part of this effort. We can’t wait to see what comes from it!†The rules for the contest, which also includes information on dates, prizes, and categories, can be found on www.makearmanotwar.com. The Make Arma Not War website will be updated regularly, starting with additional instructions on how to apply in the beginning of next year. Last but not least, to stay up to date with the latest developments, people can sign up for the Make Arma Not War newsletter. Important announcements regarding the contest will also be communicated via the official Arma 3 social channels (Facebook, Twitter).
