[Answered] ArmA 2, OA and RFT Install issues

Gday all,

I am a very big fan of this game and keen to get back into it. I had ArmA2 and ArmA2:OA on my old laptop which has since died and the CDs misplaced. Being such an awesome game I took the hit and bought ArmA2 again, as well as RFT.

I installed ArmA2, then RFT on my new laptop and it played fine. I decided to buy OA again as well.... Then the trouble started.

I tried installing OA however it didnt work. I assumed this is because I had RFT installed (cant remember what the error was) so I attempted to uninstall all three.

I then reinstalled ArmA2, then OA, then when I put the RFT disk in I had two options - BAF and PMC only or RFT. I tried BAF and PMC only initially.

First up it said that I had already installed it (despite the uninstall of ArmA completely) and did not detect the ArmA2 directory (D:\Games\Bohemia Interactive\ArmA 2)

I redirected it here and installed it but when I ran it, it looked as though not all the campaigns were there. I then installed RFT in the ArmA 2 directory and ran it no worries and it all looked good.

Next problem - Patch time

I tried to apply patch 1.59 and my first concern is the intial dialogue says "This patch will update ArmA 2RFT to version . (note - no version number, just a full stop - is that normal?)

I run the patch and it works ok up until it tries to update OA (again, to "version .") when I get the following error message

Error found in file COMMON\Ca.pbo (then missions.pbo, modules.pbo etc.)

I have seen a few different topics about RFT installation trouble, but most of them seem to be different issues or I cant decipher them.

I know there is a DLC installer available, but as I have no idea what DLC is I dont know if it is applicable...

My questions:

1. Do I have to uninstall them all again? If so - how to I FULLY uninstall the game (ie. So when I reinstall it, it doesnt say it is already installed)

2. What is the best install/patch order to make sure the process goes smoothly?

3. How do I fix the patching problem (if not already answered in 2.)

It is pretty disappointing to buy a game twice and then not be able to make it work... Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am very keen to get back into ArmA2!!!

Same problem - even tried uninstalling and reinstalling one by one - Error found in file ADDONS\CA.pbo etc.

To clarify - the install works fine, it is when I try and run the patch to 1.59 that the error occurs

The game runs fine after the patch and says it is version 1.59.79384 despite me clicking ignore on the ADDONS error messages.

How do I install the patch correctly?

Ok - when I run Arma2.exe it comes up with errors -

In windows:

Addon 'A_GeneralStore_01' requires addon 'CAData'

No entry 'bin\config.bin/CfgSurfaceCharacters.SparseWeedsClutter'

In game:

Script startup.sqs not found

Running Arma2oa.exe there are no errors but it seems as though it is not working 100%... I think all the campaigns are there however in the editor under blueforce groups there are only US Army, ACR, Germany and BAF (ie. No USMC etc?) USMC is a valid choice when placing single units though.

With regard to the Arma.rpt file, I have looked for it (as indicated in that link) in c:\users\public and c:\users\michael and no luck. There is an Arma2 folder in my docs but just has saved mission edits and the profile and CFG files.

The game is not crashing, it is managing to run despite the patch not being applied fully... Where to from here?

a) You need to make windows show hidden folders.

b) It seems your a2 is missing data files.

Ok, I have found the files however they are massive and I cannot attatch them - I can email them somewhere if you would like?

I dont understand why it is missing data...

Should I install Arma2 then fully update before installing OA?

When you compress the rpt with 7z or zip it will become much smaller in addition.

As for updating: Arma_2:_Update_Guide

1. a2

2. oa in the same folder

3. apply 1.59

That should be enough.

If you have bought BAF/PMC install it before 3)

Ok, ill try uninstall and reinstall along those lines and get those files uploaded and get back to you.

In the meantime... When installing BAF/PMC from the Reinforcements CD, there are two options:

Install REINFORCEMENTS

or

Install only BAF and PMC

What option do i select?

You have two options:

1) a2 + RFT

2) a2 + OA + only BAF and PMC

Two adds the OA campaign and SP mission compared to one.

So if you want to play it, go for that. Otherwise one is more easy.

For RFT remember to use the updated installer posted by Dwarden.
