[Error] Satelite overlap issues

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

Does anyone know how i can fix a satellite overlap issue ? I can't get TB to generate layers unless i accept 128px overlap or give it the wrong resolution for my sat/mask

Obviously with 128px it looks crap, see screen shot > http://i.imgur.com/LufQ9Ff.jpg

My map is 2048 with a cell size of 10 meters = 20,480

So my satellite, mask and normals are also 20480x20480, should be correct yes ?

The only way i can do it is by changing the Satellite/Mask from 20480 @ 1m/px to 2048 @ 10m/px

With using the wrong values my satellite looks crap, all the fine detail is gone :( to me the values are the same so why does the wrong res work

This is what i want but look at the overlap > http://i.imgur.com/LzYbFPp.png

This is what i'm forced to have > http://i.imgur.com/OWbZZ6n.png

Try by keeping the†Satellite/Surface (mask) source image†to your desired 20480x20480 @1m/px and start tweaking the “Texture layer†to bigger values; if you cannot set it to higher values then you will have to tweak also the “Satellite/Surface (mask) tiles†to a bigger value and see how it goes.

Changing the 'Texture layer' makes no difference either, if i go from 40.00 x 40.00 to anything bigger or smaller it's all undefined or throws up the misleading 'Layers generation - Default satellite file doesn't exist.' error until my only option is to choose 128 overlay.

I've tried all possible options and it's just not possible right now to make a 20,480 meter terrain unless i (A) have a horrid low res satellite map or (B) have it with the horrible tartan lines :(

So until BI fix this bug that puts my terrain on hold ...

I have been on hold for a month now, as I have the exact same issue as you Richie.

Nothing I tried has worked 2048x10,4096x5,8192x2.5.

Unless I change the resolution above 1.0 I get overlap.

Well fingers crossed the BI gurus will fix it :)

I still have some sat work to finish up but that's only a few days worth ....

This is regular behavior from my experience so far.

So, once you switched to a bigger value (64.00 x 64.00 I imagine) and you see all undefined, have you tried switching “Satellite/Surface (mask) tiles†to a bigger value as well like 4096 x 4096 for example?

I've tried all combinations, honestly every possible way, in “Satellite/Surface (mask) tiles†my biggest option is 2048, there is no 4096, it just won't work at all unless i reduce my sat from 20480 @ 1 m/px to 2048 @ 10 m/px, obviously this makes the quality terrible.

After 40.00 x 40.00 my next option is 80.00 x 80.00, see this screen shot http://i.imgur.com/m00lTwM.png

After 80.00 x 80.00 my next option is 160.00 x 160.00, see this screen shot http://i.imgur.com/9sfQHZV.png

So as i said it's not possible to use a hi res sat using the current version of TB, it has to be something BIS fix

Feel free to add to the feedback tracker issue with any settings that generate the same issue with your terrains - more details = more repro = more action (hopefully) :D

Yeah it's great they are fixing the tiling problem!

However, that's just one part of the problem IMHO, the other being that for my map it refuses to generate layers at 1m/px settings, just throws the "Layers generation - Default satellite file doesn't exist" error in my face and no way to debug. 1.5m works and 2m/px, but obviously does not look as good. My map size is 30720x30720 with a 4096x4096 terrain. The same size as altis, actually.. I wonder if it depends on system memory, I only have 8gb of RAM?

This is now resolved, thank you Tom, BI gurus and of course the Tartan Taskforce :icon_cool:
