Conflict: Ukraine (MP Campaign)

Recommended Posts

I have decided to start work on a new campaign - Conflict: Ukraine going back to my roots in Ghost Recon and bringing the GR experience to Arma 3.

For those who know me, I don't have to say much - for those that don't, I have been making campaigns for Ghost Recon since about 2003 including 50-60 missions before moving to Arma series.

I then make the Island Thunder and Podagorsk Campaigns for Arma 2 still adopting the GR-style (special forces operating in an AO about the size of 1x1 or 2x2 km and completing several objectives - each character with specialist skills).

I'm now ready to put together a campaign for Arma 3 - using one or two redesigned missions from Podagorsk but about 10 new missions.

The Campaign Brief:

In February 2014, the Ukrainian Revolution amidst escalating violence saw the then Ukrainian President, Viktor Yanukovich, flee from government following deals he made with Russia which were seen to be against the interests of Ukraine.

On 23 February 2014, an interim government headed by Arseniy Yatsenyuk was formed in Ukraine. Russia refused to recognise the new government and on February 26, pro-Russian rebels supported by Russian forces began to take control of the Crimean Peninsula.

On 27 February, rebels seized the Crimean parliament and replaced the Ukrainian flag with the Russian flag. They ousted the prime minister and installed a pro-Russian politician, Sergey Aksyonov. By the end of February, Russia had annexed the whole region and renamed it Podagorsk.

Tensions between Ukraine and Russia continued to escalate with Russia freezing natural gas supplies to Ukraine. In August, unmarked Russian troops and military vehicles crossed into the Donbass region in Eastern Ukraine cutting off Ukraine's access to it's coal supplies, effectively disabling Ukraine's power and the ability to defend itself. Russian forces continue to maintain a large presence on the eastern border.

In early November, pro-Russian rebels and Russian forces began to mass along on the northern border of Podagorsk near Bystrica where the Dnieper River separates southern Ukraine from the north. While Russia insisted that this was just a precautionary measure to protect citizens from Ukrainian retaliation, NATO and western nations knew that a Russian invasion appeared imminent.

On the morning of 1 December 2014, 23 years after Ukraine declared independence from the USSR, Russia crossed the border into Ukraine.

As the world holds its breath and waits, soldiers from an elite Special Forces Group known as the Ghosts are already on the ground in eastern Europe and preparing to conduct special operations aimed at disabling Russia's plans.

Welcome to Conflict: Ukraine - a Ghost Recon in Arma 3 experience.

The Ghosts:

16 x Special Forces 'Ghosts' broken into 2 eight man teams - Alpha and Bravo

LEA kits will designate your weapons

Alpha Medic has a Respawn Tent which he can deploy - if you choose to use respawns.

Medic Tent also has VAS Ammo system attached so you can rearm if required - again you may/may not choose to deploy this.

Required Mods:

Massi's USSOCOM 75th Ranger, Navy SEALs DEVGRU and Delta Forces - http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=19132

Massi's Russian GRU and OMON Spetsnaz - http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=19627

Massi's NATO SF and Russian Spetsnaz Weapons - http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=21912

Required Maps:

Podagorsk

Thirsk Winter

Bystrica

Medic/Respawn style

Given the huge variation of medic/revive setups I will leave the files un-pboed at release so coop groups can do a quick edit and insert their own setup.

My Australian clan ZSU uses xMed and AGM as standard setup but I understand that you all have your own preference. ;)

I will update this thread only - as of 1 November I have 3 missions at beta stage.

Lighty.

Yeah baby!!!! Your Arma 2 original campaign kicked ass! Please tell me there'll be a coop version...

Oh, and take a look at this post, CAF aggressors have insanely low accuracy if they use their own stock AKs. I suggest you change them.

I also recommend to wait for RHS release, it will be perfect for the Ukraine theme!

Will be 100% coop.

I Will have a look at what you've posted and see about switching out weapons with LEA profiles.

I think you should implement that mods that you think it fits your idea and scenario.

And what i read it comes only up to 4-6 mods with AIATP or A3MP.

But i would appreciate when you only use high quality stuff for your missions and not quantity over quality like some others do.

Information from toadie2k (@hlc_ak) there is a alternate config for @caf avaiable, that change the weapons to his very good made ak`s.

This brings two benefits with it, the enemy has better skills with it and you can use your enemys weapon.

For the medical system i would say agm or cse, i think these mods are the most used in the tactical community.

I've decided that when I come to release the campaign I will not pbo it so as to allow clans to insert their own med systems.

No RHS so far? Don´t limit your creativity by limiting mods, some great campaigns before were mod heavy and it didn´t stopped them =) (and a huge total convertion mod as RHS helps if you want to limit in variety the mods, but not in used content)

Anxious to play that! If you need playtesting, you can check my credentials with Misty Ronin, IndeedPete, Surfer, Cyper and Panicsferd =)

cheers!

+1 for RHS. Awesome briefing, contemporary conflicts cannot be a better background for an Arma campaign (I wish would realise that). Looking anxiously to play this!

Will the medic respawn tent always be there or will we be able to cancel it all together? Reason is, I can't stand even seeing the word "respawn" in the game and prefer not even having the option.

The missions will be unpboed so it's one init line to remove from the medic.

The RHS M4s are a piece of art and the best weapon models I have ever seen. It can't get better than that, at least I can't imagine a better looking weapon. I full heartlessly recommend everything RHS related, everything is top notched.

So u r talking about Robert hammers weapons not the red hammer studios Russia expansion.

And is this the Robert Hammer addon: http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=23277

---------- Post added at 11:32 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:05 AM ----------

Looking at the RHS (Red Hammer Studios) total conversion it weighs in at 1.4 Gig and as my campaign is predominantly infantry based spec ops, it's much more than I need at this stage.

I was referring to Red Hammer Studios Escalation mod that has a Russian faction and a US faction.

RHS is big, yeah, but I believe that most communities will use it anyway since it's amazing quality and fills up the void of contemporary units and weapons, so I guess you won't be forcing anyone to download mods they don't want just to play your campaign if you use RHS.

I dloaded the RHS mod, the US characters don't fit the Ghost style I'm looking for, massis units nail it.

Even the Russians come in more flavours in terms of skins including the alpine camo which I need.

ArmA isn´t enjoyable without some GiGs of mods lol... Have you tried TrYK´s units or TFA? I think they have less dependancies than even massi´s mods and look more sharp, but anyway you could have an alternative version using RH or HLC weapon´s (massi´s were kinda placeholder till all those weapons were properly modelled or ported)

Anxious to play it!

cheers!

Lighty you might also make use of CUP - the community upgrade project. These guys are porting all the Arma 2 content and lifting it to Arma 3 standards.

Status update:

Trailer in progress.

Still only 3 missions but I have settled on the units and characters for the campaign so anticipate rollng out a new one weekly.

Will use a range of insertions for immersion.

Have two types of AI scripts running - one for random patrols (USPS) and the second VCom AI for rapid response, I have found blending both of these provides the most enjoyable and unpredictable combat experience.

Reflecting on my years playing and creating missions for Ghost Recon and the success at creating GR in Arma 2 (Island Thunder), I've decided to market this as the true GR:A3 experience.

I am going to prove once and for all that Arma was and is still the true successor to the Original Ghost Recon series.

Mod update:

RHS is not in as it's lacking special forces.

CAF Aggressors are out.

Massis Russians are out.

Suddens Russians are in as they look closest to the Russian forces I'm seeing in Ukraine and provides a number of reskinned vehicles.

Massis Spec Ops are in which will cover Ghosts and Alpine Spec Ops characters.

Isn't RHS Russians will do a better job at that? It has more vehicles which are more detailed and complex. Also the Russian soldiers are way more detailed and authentic. Sudden's are simple ports of Arma 2 content.

If you are using Massi's for the played units, you can require only RHS: Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (without the American side) and open your campaign to a lot more communities.

I urge you to reconsider :)
