Secret SimulWeather commands?

Recommended Posts

Well, me and ProGamer were messing around in the editor today when we began stumbling across SimulWeather commands with a generic description that are not listed in the Wiki, nor are they listed anywhere... Some commands have a very strange visual effect, others not so much. They all do something that contributes to how the clouds/weather looks. I would say most of these commands are WiP at best. Some of the commands mess the clouds up so bad they start rendering like minecraft clouds...

Commands so far:

SimulSetWrap true\false; -- apparently hides all your clouds...

SimulSetCloudWidth number -- makes the clouds width go weird

SimulsetMieAsymmetry 0.5; -- ??????

simulCloudOcclusion [Postion1, Position2]; -- doesnt work?

EDIT: Holy crap... theres a whole load of commands for this system:

simulCloudDensity

simulCloudOcclusion

simulInClouds

simulSetAlphaSharpness

simulSetAmbientLightResponse

simulSetAtmosphereThickness

simulSetCentreX

simulSetCentreY

simulSetCloudBaseZ

simulSetCloudHeight

simulSetCloudLength

simulSetCloudWidth

simulSetDiffusivity

simulSetExtinction

simulSetFog

simulSetFractalAmplitude

simulSetFractalWavelength

We think there may be many more commands and possibly some relating to "clouds snowing". Think of it as a scripting treasure hunt!

If you blokes can find the settings so the clouds cast shadows you'll be very popular.

simulSetSelfShadowScale urnumberhere

Will work. The shadows may not be 110% noticible at first. You will need to look a bit close to see the difference in brightness over certain areas. Maybe its just me, IDK. I used about 60 overcast and it seemed like shadows were casting them as they were moving. I used 50000 as the number and it was pretty noticible for the difference in brightness.

You can use the supportInfo command to return ALL scripting commands in the game.

_arma3Commands = supportInfo "";

Also, at least some of the Simul commands effects are persistent between missions, and have no obvious way to reset them to default.

^^ yea... i scared myself shit once after messing with simulSetFractalAmplitude, simulSetFractalWavelength and after restarting the mission from editor everything was still the same... only a game restart reset those particular settings back.

We think that anything shown in this video could have in game commands:

Here's the link if the video does not work:

You can kinda fly in and out of rainstorms with the command. Though i find that glitchy. Can't fly out of them? Or the rain starts delayed.

it does this:[ video]

when it should do this [.video=youtube;pnvBF5Nu5gw]

remove the "." from the first bracket.

Found a new command: setSimulWeatherLayers

It says to make it work we need to know what the layers are.

setSimulWeatherLayers "Layers"

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We can get clues for commands from this instructional video on TrueSky:

Video link if the embeded video has any problems:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lets try to find any other commands that can do things like that awesome snow in the video on the first page! This SimulWeather is the best cloud tech I have ever scene in a game, googled it and you won't believe how many sim gamers are jealous!

Thanks! We would love to have a list of all of the commands relating to the SimlWeather which I suspect includes precipitation commands.

I had some strange bugs with:

time acceleration + fog creation + custom settings

The Effect was: Together with timeAcc the fog setting, the "morning fog" were not deleted on clients. I thought OK, deactive the weather things.

But some players were able to reproduce it again: They played a ingame week. Every day a piece of fog was not deleted. On the last day were not able to see more than 1000m.

(Last try v0.70, maybe it works now)

If you really want to use the settings: Test them really long, before you put them on a public server. Or use them for short COOP missions.

These commands are highly WIP. Use this video to learn what they are supposed to do:

And still no progress on setSimulWeatherLayers yet.

I tried this command but I didn't notice any terrain shadowing. Going by the name itself I might assume it has more to do with the way clouds cast and receive shadows among themselves.

Same here. It was worth a try though!
