    -should be tested in not very high-end PCs (posibility disabling grass, decrease distanceView) -intros shouldn't be too long -let music that missionmaker loves stay only in his PC, not in mission (not everybody loves linkinpark, rap etc) -missionmaker has to balance between ambient life and our PCs' performance (to many units make mission very laggy)

    Actually in ArmA you don't put your gun on your back when using binoculars. You let it hang on invisible weapon swing. If I should do this (let the gun hang) in real life I wouldn't feel any need to switch the gun on safety, since most of the guns shouldn't fire unless you press the trigger. Well, I'm not a soldier so this is just my opinion, but I doubt it's supposed to be a feature. Having served in the british army I can tell you that if you pointed a live weapon at someone you'd likely get a rap around the noggin for it (if ur lucky). Letting a live weapon swing freely is against safety protocols and you would always put the weapon on safety when not firing it. However, when in the field these protocols can be forgotten so it's not a "yes, definitely every soldier makes their weapon safe", because some don't and that's when accidents happen. With training you learn to pop it on/off without thinking about it. Someone forgot to put their safety on once as we were returning from patrol. He was back at camp and meant to be guarding the approach but accidentally discharged his rifle. Good job it was just training because the weapon was pointed in our general direction. I notice that people tend to accidentally fire off their weapon in game. Great way to kill your friends and/or make yourself noticed (as is true in the real world). I always rest my finger on the mouse wheel until I need to fire as a few times my finger has slipped and I've popped off a round.

    N00b questions, calling out enemies & squad manage

    Frederf, those points are very useful. I also make heavy use of hold fire, assigning targets, and overall slow movement. It's very satisfying when all of your AI are ready to fire, and you tell them to open up on an unsuspecting enemy. Also, retreating or displacing immediately after such an ambush can be the difference between losing one soldier and losing the whole squad! A few other quirks that help me when managing my AI: Stay Back is a very useful command for getting your AI to retreat when under fire (they move 50m behind you, a la advance, but reverse), especially if the point 50m behind you is behind a ridge or other cover. This is much more effective than running backwards and expecting them to follow you. Plus, you can give your retreating AI cover fire! Stealth + Stand Up is an effective way of getting AI to move tactically in formation without going crazy, especially with a column (compact) formation and the hold fire engage mode. I find this combination more useful than simple danger or aware, especially in urban areas. When I want them to keep low, I tell them so. I use this in urban areas to great effect. Return to formation: Using this command seems to reset the formation direction to the direction you're facing/traveling, which can be a lifesaver for getting your AI formation to actually face in the direction you want them to (IE, along a ridge). it's aggravating when you're on top of a ridge, but your formation is misdirected, with half behind the ridge and half in plain view... Teamswitch: Sometimes teamswitching into your soldiers is one of the only solutions to commanding AI in a tight situation. I have a custom MP teamswitch script that overrides the Arma teamswitch keys (Y and U default), and lets me switch into any of my squad members instantly (using selectplayer), while staying the group leader. This is insanely useful for managing stubborn AI for the few seconds they need to target the proper enemy, quickly return to formation, shoot a tank without dying, or move into a dangerous area. Though you can fairly quickly give commands to the AI to shoot a specific target or move to a location, sometimes it helps to be able to perform the exact operation yourself... The Ai do what you tell them, not necessarily what you want! Also, taking control of my soldiers and doing such actions myself, I find I often have just as much trouble succeeding as the AI does. I think we give them a bad rap because we expect them to perform miracles while under fire, while watching them get mercilessly cut down, but to be fair, it's still quite hard to take control and get what you want done without dying...

    ArmA is just ... disappointing

    Most needforspeed games up to date are not dedicated to driving, to be honest their driving model is pathetic joke compared to real driving sims, NFS is dedicated to rap "music" and "cool" tuning. But well, driving cars in arma avoiding ostacles is almost like steering a pacman avoiding the evil ghosts. Being "better" as game (wich i agree 100%) doesnt make it any more realistic. tho. Tell you a fact, arma propably the most arcadish driving and flying model of all "war games" in 2007. Thats why i keep to playing as infantry, wich its very good at!

    The best spot to find such info is probably in the configs. You'll need a de-pbo tool and an un-rap tool to be able to read them.

    Although your post was just downright rude, I do strongly agree with those two points. I understand a lot of our younger community members are heavily into that whole 'metal' thing, but please think of us guys who like other music, too. I personally love the older rap styles, the '90s stuff, when it still meant something; rappers like Eazy E, 2Pac and Biggie. Now imagine how you'd feel if I made a nice mod which made it compulsory for you to listen to that.
  14. hey guys lets start with the example as it should make it more clear. 1. unpbo (ie with cpbo.exe) ArmA\addons\anims.pbo 2. change config.cpp (unrap and rap - details not important) 3. repbo anims.pbo (ie with cpbo.exe) so only a small config/text file gets changed. however as the anims.pbo contains all the rtm files (~500 MB), this takes up to a minute for decompression and compression each. (decompression is only needed once of course) (config.bin is renamed to config.bin.bk as config.cpp works as well) so its there a way to make this process any faster? sort of "merge only the changed file into an existing pbo" any help is appreciated a lot! best regards Q build.bat so far: PATH\cpbo\cpbo.exe -y -p Anims

    Lately rediscovered an album I bought a while ago. Easystar all-stars: Dub side of the moon. Basically a dub remake of Pink Floyd´s Dark side of the moon, but offers a large variety of genres and is perfect for chilled evenings with friends. Listen to some tracks on the easystar dub side of the moon page @techno: There is more than bum-bum charts techno. Even Kraftwerk could be taken to that category. I erased the ones I do not know and fixed one name Could probably add a lot more but I am too lazy to turn around and search through my unsorted collection that fills one side of the room up to the ceiling. Still, I am more into electronic music as a whole and as I can see from your list you also have some house artists on it. A well...scrab the above. I have no real favourite music. There is so much music from different genres that I like that it´s not easy to describe. Be it brazil, ragga, funk, dub, house, electronica, nujazz, metal, hardcore, indie, goth, fusion.......... Basically from Pantera to 70´s Strip-club music, but I absolutetly hate charts music of any kind. I could vomit on newstyle gangstarap and nowadays "R&B". So called Artists representing those genres should be sent to nevercomeback-island. Classic Rap or good one like for example NWA, of course Public Enemy, Digital underground but also guys like Busta Rhymes get my vote. It´s just that anyone with a microphone thinks he´s a superrappper today. I guess all that gangsta rappers should meet oneday and have a legitimate reallife deathmatch. This would actually clean the air in the genre for a while Just forgot to add that all those who are looking for something different should have a listen to UNKLE - war stories. It´s a mix of psychedellic rock , beats and atmospheric patterns. I love it. The ones who remember the Psyence-fiction UNKLE album, will love this one. It´s disturbing as the old Frontline - Assembly album "Tactical neural implant" which is still an all-time favourite for me and sweet as Postishead at times. Definately a must-hear.

Well the main guns on the tanks,I can put the sharp crack, but mind you, since the ArmA sound engine oes take care of the sound from afar, still, I want to keep everything in an in between sorta way. I would add it but in real life, its a more sharp dull boom with a nice concussion. The Shilka, I have a coulpe more sound clips to show, if only I can get my movie maker to work right, I wouldnt have to be adding videos after video. Yeah the M136 i slowed the shell sound of a 40mm to duplicate the sound of the RAP round being removed, but, I do have anotehr one that is the actual sound heh. I think I have another clip of the 203 has moer punch. Thanks for the link to the vids. I have checked those out also but the only thing is, alot of the rifle ranges in these are covered or have yawnings that the shooters are under, so you get that metallic echo, not a choice of sound, but there are some good vids there for reference thanks again.

    The config file you need to edit is in your weapons.pbo file.  Here are the steps you take to remove the arma vanilla tracers.... 1) create a folder "Arma Weapons.pbo holder" on desktop 2) find the Arma/Addons/weapons.pbo file.  NOTE: If you are using a BETA patch for Arma, then use the Arma/beta/Addons/weapons.pbo file. 3) drag the weapons.pbo to desktop. 4) un-pbo the file (this will leave the orginal PBO file intact, but will also create a "weapons.pbo" folder, which contains numerous files inside. 5) Now, take the original weapons.pbo file and place it in the "Arma Weapons.pbo holder" folder you created.  This is to keep your original file in a safe place in case you ever want to revert back to the vanilla tracers. 6) Open the "weapons.pbo" folder. 7) you will see a config file inside it. 8) Use "UnRap" program to decode the config file. 9) It will ask you a yes or no question upon unrapping, just select NO. 10) You should now be able to view the config file using a viewing program. I believed I used "ULtraEdit-32" to read the file. 11)  Find any Tracer entries that look somelthing like "Tracer=[2,.2,5,.4]".  Some people say replacing the last value (the alpha value) to 0 makes them invisible, but I just deleted the whole line and it worked for me.  If I saw a "Tracer=" line that had a 0,0,0,0 value already, i just left it alone.  Same goes for the "Tracer[R]=" lines.  the regular "Tracer=" line is for the regular setting, and the "Tracer[R]=" line is for the realistic settings.  (Or a may have it backwards).  If you leave one of the options, then you can actually "turn on-off" your arma vanilla tracers by changing the difficulty.  NOTE: If you play MP missions, you will use the servers difficulty settings regardless of your settings.  That is why I just deleted both the Tracer and Tracer[R] lines. 12) Once all the "tracer=" and "tracer[r]=" lines are deleted, then create-pbo on the "weapons.pbo" folder.  NOTE: you dont need to re-rap the config file once you made your edits. 13) Place the edited weapons.pbo file back into your /Arma/Addons directory (or Arma/beta/Addons directory if you are using  BETA patch like 1.07 beta). 14) After you have placed the actual edited "weapons" PBO FILE back in the add-on folder, then you may delete the left over "weapons.pbo" folder that is still on your desktop. 15) DONE!!! This edit works in all single player and MP missions, and it does not kick you out of servers for having altered files.  NOTE:  This "tracer fix" is only client side only, meaning if you play MP, then other players can still you your tracers and their tracers.  This "edit" is nothing more then a visual client side effect for players.  I do realize that this puts one at a tactical disadvantage, but if you play COOP the AI is going to see you just as easily either way, and I personally feel like its more "realistic" to not have EVERYONE shooting tracers for EVERY round. **** ON A SIDE NOTE, I would greatly appreciate it if someone could make this edited "weapons.pbo" to work as a Add-On mod, so that no one has to edit their original files. IF someone could make a Add-on mod called "NoTracers" folder, then have some type of config file in it that tells Arma to use the weapons.pbo in the mod folder instead of the default weapons.pbo file that has the tracers. Just like FDF sound mod tells Arma to use the FDF sounds instead of the default sounds. Then turning Arma tracers on and off will be as simple as turning the mod on and off.

    Encripting \Locking missions

    You can use the bin2cpp or binview tools to extract the mission.sqm in Evolution. Depbo the mission pbo file, then use binview on the mission.sqm and save as text, instead of binary. It's not encrypted, it's just in the raP format, to save on download time. Cheers, Axek.

    Another way to implement a penalty is to add respawn to the side which is sided with the resistance forces. Kill one civ - one respawn, two civs - four respawns. etc. Yep thats another good idea, jail is more for the players who are trying to push the limits of the system. or keep team killing. The main point of the system is that you arn't always punished, it fact often nothing happens. No one knows about your misdead. Team "misdeed" points can accumulate over a mission and have an effect on on rolls or even on the outcome of the mission. So before I write one line of code here is a suggested score Misdeed system. Misdeed points are personal and ALSO accumulate for your team. Teamkill per kill 2 points Civilian Kill 1 point Civilian Building 1 point Civilian medical building or school 2 points wounded soldier 1 point surrender soldier 1 point POW 2 points Medical unit 2 points Suicide 1 point Killing a journalist 5 points Side mission failure 5 points Objective Failure 10 points Negative Misdeeds: Taking a POW +2 points med evacing a wounded enemy soldier +2 points Side mission succes +5 points Objective Success +10 points Misdeed points are always shown on your personal score, and your personal points are added to the team points. Negative Misdeeds only affect the team score and can reduce it only back to zero. A few notes: TK's hurt more than almost anything as media reports of Freindly Fire demoralises nations and makes people not support a war. People in general get more upset over Freindly fire in the media that they do over civilian deaths of people from another country. Killing a journalist is even worse as the worlds press can turn on you, the high score reflects the fact that the media blame you and will start finding negative aspects to everything you do. Journalist units could be placed on a map. but also random civilian building kills occasionaly will be reported as a member of the world press was in that building and was killed by your "gung ho" actions. Super Negative and Positive: A roll of 1 or 100 on the random generator means a super event happens and the score is x5. A famous civilian was killed or lots civilians in one building, or the tk or wounded soldier killed was caught on camera. These are rare but there to remind players although you can get away with it you might not. They also work as in the soldier captured was the brother of the other sides leader etc. Most important is the fact barring TK's every other event will only score 50% of the time. As this is war and these things happen and often no one notices. Barring TK's as your own side tend to notice them. These scores act as modifiers on the events that trigger headlines. The more misdeed points you have and your team have the more chance a result can be negative. Your misdeed points + teams misdeed points convert to a pecentage with is added to the chance of a NEGATIVE result on a headline. example you have 10 misdeed you team has 78 this would convert to a +20% chance of a negative roll for any even you trigger. Negative Headline has game effects for your team so you generally want to avoid them. The idea of a warcriminal is palyer who gets say 35 points or over. he is really making things hard for the team so they get to vote. options: Executed for crimes agaisnt humanity "kicked from match" Life in jail "10 mins in jail" Life with parole "5 mins in jail" Kicked from service "1 min in jail" innocent No penalty Only your own team gets to vote. Basically as this guy is getting alot of Misdeed points you get to decide if he is being a bastard or not and what his fate is. His rap card would show what he got the points for. So a total team killer gets the firing squad. And unlucky pilot who crashed with a full load of men might be found innocent.

    5.1 surround in ArmA?

    I never tried them but they look rather dodgy, sure they'll sound good, until you try something better. But with a USB connection your completely taking the sound card out of the equation, so an X-Fi will make no difference. What you should do is if possible go into an audio store and just try on a lot of different pairs. Amplification, equalizer and bass controls will GREATLY increase the sound quality so you can't always judge what will be the best when tweaked. But generally what you should do is find the most comfortable and best sounding/clearest set of headphones and then muck with the bass/equalizer (if the playback equipment has it) and listen for absolute clarity and smooth bass. Getting lots and lots of bass is not a problem on something like an X-Fi, but getting very sharp crisp and high quality sound is a different matter so thats what you should go for over pure bass. And for gods sake if you bring your own source equipment don't use rap, get something with a playback frequency higher than 50hz This is what I have http://www.goodgearguide.com.au/index.p....83;pt;1 they NEED a high end sound card like the X-Fi because they draw so much power and need the bass boost. But dunno where that pricetag came from, got mine for $200AUD ($160 USD). Give them a try if theres any in the shops.
