Legal violations by A3L: Arma 3 life

Hop on their ts server, he is there right now and anyone who has access to the forums can see his thread.

Steaker never left the community, he was only away for a few weeks. And that about him taking his work with him was a complete lie confirmed by both Steaker himself and Caiden, it was a rumour that was spread around. He spent some time away from the community but never prohibited them from using his work. Right now he is almost everyday on the teamspeak and has an active forum thread where he shows the work he is doing on his framework.

It seems to be the case. Haven't seen any shared staff, servers or even a general project direction.

Just had a look on city life page, and they have a whole store for in-game content. https://donation.cityliferpg.com, but I am sure Bohemia is already aware of the situation.

    1. Even if they had previous conflicts with Tonic they were wrong in what they did with is code, but at least he won't be tangled in this mess for much longer since they are trying to put out their own framework. They are not correct in keeping to use it until then and to use it previously without the proper permission. Any action to be taken about this is up to Tonic, if he feels he or his work have been damaged and if he has a clean past (don't know the details about the conflict). 2. If they confirm they are using their copyrighted material, the standard procedure from big companies to deal with communities is start with a friendly demand/request that most likely Caiden will comply with, if not he will face legal action. 3. Bohemia already talked with them and made their demands, to which they complied and changed their ways. Bohemia going to court with A3L is apparently something that they want to avoid. I don't really see how it breaks Arma 3 EULA, since you can get in without paying anything, but it will just take longer due to apparent lack of staff. The expedited path only makes their application to be evaluated quicker, they still have to go trough the interview, where they are treated just like everybody else. And this is to join the community not the server. To join the server you still have to be whitelisted, again a process where donators are treated like everybody else. EDIT: Just read their Intellectual Property statement and apparently this system was directly approved by Bohemia. 4. There is nothing that could be said here since they are at fault without any doubt, even if it is practised by many other communities.

I have been following this thread since the first day, but only decided to apply this day because the misinformation going on here is just unbearable and you don't need to be aggressive towards just because I decided to take no sides. The findings you mentioned, at least the ones present in this thread are just allegations and opinions that people are trying to pass as facts, and rest assured I would argue if the proof was crystal clear. If there rock solid proof the damaged companies such as Microsoft and other companies would have already approached A3L, something that has not happened since the models are still being used in the game and same goes for Bohemia. All I see is a circular argument, a dog chasing is tail that somewhat ended up in ~90 pages. People are clearly regurgitating the same statements over and over and that will help no one since the motivations behind it are just to feed the drama. It is just being hypocritical when people say this is to protect Arma community when it just enlarging the flame war currently going on. If you find proof provide it to the involved parties and thats it, the lack of morals from the community it is not in doubt but some still think it is a point worth arguing.

We all loves Arma that is the reason why we play it and you can bet the community is a big part of it. Altough A3L is breaching addon makers licenses and not being completely transparent regarding their donations, there is many, many others who do the same but for an unknown reason some users are making this a personal war against A3L and trying to keep all the spotlights centered in them, when this action will create tensions within the community since the other servers/communities under the same circumstances will just keep laughing in the distance.

The lack of evidence is indeed quite astonishing (I understand that you might be keeping it to the involved parties and it is the right and smart thing to do). The only individuals who might have suffered damage from A3L activity is some addon makers and the models copyright owners and is up to them to make justice if they have the tools and evidence to go forward with it. The outcome regarding big companies is quite obvious... Now the addon developers have to organize themselves and try to enforce their licenses by legal means and try to stay away from the drama being generated by all this allegations that lack proof. They probably are aware and have the proof their license is being breached and they need to act. Riding a mob won't bring them a good result out of this.

I don't know what is going behind closed doors, but in this thread I have not seen any solid proof whatsoever, just allegations and testimonies from possibly people that were banned or failed the white listing process. I am not taking any sides, mainly because it is a mess in both, but you can't really call concrete evidence on what is present in this thread. No big company will issue a cease-and-desist, unless they have a rock solid case (that includes proper evidence and evidence gathered and stored in the right way, and this excludes from the start print screens and testimonies from non identified people) and confirmed considerable amounts of money have to be involved or else it will just be a PR disaster. A case based on morality, feelings, grudges, bias, allegations, math made in 5 minutes won't be taken serious by anyone. Unless you are keeping proof from the thread, this whole ordeal basically comes down to drama fueled by an angry mob from my point of view. It is quite obvious they have acted wrong, but if the developers that feel that have seen their licenses broken, they need to organize and lawyer up, because those licenses being waved around in the thread have 0 value if you don't have a lawyer to protect your interests. I am sorry if I came out harsh but this just seems like huge mess, a mess that even Bohemia apparently is trying to stay away from. I can easily see this ending up with the big companies requesting in a friendly way for their models (if it is proven to be true) to be removed and A3L just complying, because they have a legal teams instead of testosterone and drama powered mobs.

I don't doubt that you are speaking the truth since I am familiarized with the prices but I doubt your servers gets the same level of "hate" that A3L one gets. There is no solid provider able to give you even "decent" DDOS protection in the $200 area, unless they are advertising something that they are not providing.

From someone who has owned arma 3 servers you definitely do not know what you are talking about. With the amount of DDOS that have been targeting them, I would guess a server with a protection able to handle them would be in the $400-$600 range each. This if they are paying for monitoring, something that is likely considering that they don't seem to be very experienced in the matter.
