I liked Blitzkrieg also. It was similar to Sudden Strike but imo more refined and believable. I didn't enjoy the successor much when I tried it out but I'm one of those 'dinosaurs' who think that 3D doesn't work well for strategy games (except for Total War games and WC3 and SC2, but those have fixed cameras anyway). :p Some post 2000 shooters were pretty great also such as Serious Sam First + Second Encounter, No One Lives Forever 1 & 2, Jedi Outcast, Elite Force, Aliens vs Predator 2, ect. It was a time when Raven Software and Monolith Productions were still big names in the FPS genre.

My fave games post 2000 are Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis + Resistance, Vietcong + Fist Alpha, NFS: Porsche 2000, Sacrifice, Black & White, Rune + Halls of Valhalla, Soul Reaver 2, Project IGI, Blood Omen 2, Hitman 2, Hitman: Blood Money, Disciples II: Dark Prophecy, Soldier of Fortune, Rainbow Six: Raven Shield, Ghost Recon, Live For Speed, Halo: Combat Evolved, Call of Duty, Trackmania, etc. I consider myself a PC gamer. I had a Xbox 360 Elite but it didn't 'click' with me.

It looks very promising but I believe it will be more aimed at 'serious' use, i.e. for specific simulations and the 'game' version will come out at a later time (says so on their page too). But it is nice to see this engine getting a proper usage and a seamless, deformable and editable virtual world becoming a reality.

OFP also has a ton of mods and addons made for it with new ones still being made. Check out this site, it's a gold mine for everything Flashpoint. And you can even still play MP if you download OFP Monitor. Some of us "die hard" OFP fans are still playing it... :p

So I got a new PC (finaly with a decent Intel i5 CPU; was stuck on some old AMD before... ;) ) and of course I had to buy the OS with it too, so I picked Win 8.1. First impression is - it's Win 7 but with less options. I still find they overcharge for them severely, however, it seems 8.1 owners will be able to upgrade to Win 10 for free when that comes out. That, and assured Direct X support (DX12 when that comes out) motivated me to give my money to the 'greedy capitalist' over the free yet 'anarchistic' Linux... ;) Any opinions on the OS? If the right thread already exists I appologize and wish it to be locked or merged with the old one.

How about another throwback to Cold War era? The Nam war would be a good theme for an Arma game: Or something more rooted in the "Armaverse" and it's version of reality. Armed Assault might have been technically superior to OFP and a spiritual successor, it still lacked the "soul", diversity, memorable characters and interesting storyline of OFP and it's expansion. Arguably, BI haven't managed to make as interesting campaign ever since which may also be attributed to the choice of conflict settings and focus on making the game more a tool for military realism enthusiasts. Although I doubt they will revisit older times with their recent choice of more futuristic settings.

It appears Red Orchestra 2 has a FOV slider but only lets you slide it to 75. The game is not on consoles either. I guess it's just a trend or something... :p

Hi, this is my attempt to make a total retexture for Resistance/CWA, a work in progress not yet completed. The aim is to replace all textures with sharper, 4096 or 2048 pixel ones, sans for the objects which will not be replaced (ground textures, roads, sea and sky only) and to make them look quite authentic (meaning remiscent on the original textures despite being different). I want them to look semi-realistic too, although there are compromises like oversized grass textures and whatnot (they don't look good when shrunken). Of course the engine still has it's limits so don't expect Crysis quality textures, but they will certainly look better from the "blurry mess" that are some low-res textures (without multitexturing in particular). To see the textures in their original form and how they compare to the standard ones, you have to disable the "multitexturing" feature in the video settings. Like previously said, it is a work in progress but I'm also uploading a "test" version for you to see what I'm attempting to do and to get some responses. Here are some pictures of what you can expect (also shown: GRAA mod, Subaru 4RTech, incomplete sky retexture): Download link: https://www.sendspace.com/file/z8bo09 Feedback is most welcome. :p

Hi, I'd like to ask if anyone knows of a script that would enable the player to swim? I'm thinking of something like the FFUR 2007 swimming. If it's possible without the need to make an invisible floating vehicle. Thanks in advance.

Hi, bumping the thread because I wanted to inform that the project is canned at this point because I had a fatal system crash (HDD failure) and had to get a new system. I had the main textures pretty much finalized and improved from the test version and I also had the textures for other three islands and a sky and sea HD retexture pack but at this point, I will not continue it due to loss of data. Maybe it will be continued at some point, as a 'reborn' project but that depends on my motivation and time but for now I request a thread lock. Thanks for understanding. :) p.s.: other lost stuff includes: 'The Solar System', a simulated space exploration mod for OFP designed around the OFP engine and, more or less, clever workarounds; 'True WW4' aka futuristic replacement pack, as the name suggests, a post-apocalyptic replacement pack or mod for OFP with sci-fi addons and two new islands ('Apocalyptic Nogova' and 'Maldenia'); 'GRAA Enhanced', an improved and MP compatible version of GRAA mod; 'Yugoslavian Wars' mission pack/mod, a continuation of Balkan Killing Machines' (BKM) work with more addons and missions that function as a 'selectable campaign'; 'OFP Racing Pack', an addon pack with many different vehicles, islands and racing missions, including rally, F1, off-road, boat racing, jet ski and similar; 'Sci-fi pack', a collection of sci-fi addons and missions, 'Lego improvement pack', a collection of Lego style textures and islands for 'Lega Warz'; new islands and missions for Veni Vidi Vicci mod (I might return to that... ;) ) and some other, lesser projects, yet big ideas... :p

Don't really care about the happenings in modern game industry tbh. I'm more of a 'backwards' person so for me the older titles or more niche ones are more interesting than multi-million dollar cinematic yearly mainstream games. :p

Don't you mean Arma 3 or even 4? :p Arma is a PC game through and through. Say what you will, but on consoles there just couldn't be the kind of community there is on the PC. You can forget completely about modding on consoles and the editor would be gimped/simplified for the gamepad. It's a series worth investing into a PC, imho. edit: well, it appears the original Xbox version of OFP did have addons, but you needed a modiefied console which is not something MS would tolerate at this point.

@Capjerahya - these are the most detailed units that were made for OFP: Hyakushiki units (US + RF) ORCS units RF Motorized Infantry & Military Recon Red Hammer Studios (RHS) OMON + VITYAZ troops and Naval Infantry + Spetsnaz

A solution to the Altis Life "Problem": Standalone "Life" Game
vran. replied to Westonsammy's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
I think it's not a bad idea that there would be more expansion on RV based titles, but I have something else in mind. Instead of a thematic title, they could make a sort of 'sandbox editor' with a easy-to-use tutorial for users, covering both, beginners aswell as advanced users. The question is just how such a title would be percieved. Would people want to pay a full price for it? Would they buy it at half price? Would it be seen just as 'the standalone Arma editor' ? Would the Arma player base see it as a 'cash grab' and making features previously seen as part of Arma experience commercial? There's a lot of unanswered questions here. -
Personally, my only gripe with these mods/missions is that they're so un-original. The 'cops and robbers' theme is old and done many times, why not be more creative and turn Arma into something unique? Like, for example, an amusement park sim. How cool could be that? You would get to either experience the theme park yourself, build it, or manage it - your choice. We had mods like these in OFP... ;)

Well, I 'broke' the 13-15.000 altitude invisible air limit - in a bit strange way: As you can see, a Suzuki can fly over 50.000 in air with some crazy scripts... ;) I could go to 100.000 or more but I got a bit 'impatient' so the experiment didn't fully realize. -
It's a realism focused mod and a bit similar to FFUR mod but has some unique features such as reloading during movement, magazine ammo checking, better radio sounds, less HUD info, 3D sights and so on. Personally, I find it better than WGL mod due to feeling less 'stiff' and a nice alternative to FFUR mod. But if you want fully functional 3D sights in OFP/CWA (not for all weapons though), I suggest taking a look at Dan's Guerrilla Pack which also comes with many nice missions (both, SP and MP).

No, this is normal for this old and niche game. At most, you will find around 20 players on a server at once. Be thankful that we even have MP left thanks to OFP Monitor. :) As for your issue with connecting to servers - some are for 1.99 version and some for 1.96 and some require mods to join. If you're a beginner and want to start playing CTI, I suggest you rather find some friend who will play with you because some players are pretty good and you will only be kicked around if you aren't experienced... ;)
-
You need to have both, d3d8.dll and d3d9.dll aswell as enbconvertor.ini (set to ''ProxyLibrary=d3d9.dll'' ) in your CWA/OFP folder. It's possible there's a issue with your graphics chip - does it support shader model 3? If it doesn't, some effects might not work or so I read.

So, apparently Arma 3 can't handle ponds but it can take you in outer space. Smh... ;) Joking aside, this looks really good and may be some sort of preview of the future evolution of RV engine. Which, lets do be honest, will have to be quite massive if they would like to trully impress us. The 'competition' is already doing things like procedural terrain generation, unlimited distances and all sorts of physical simulations, including fluids, destruction and gravity. I only hope they won't just be 'visual gimmicks' like in so many other games but will impact gameplay in a sensible manner also.

We had these since OFP (Crime City, Nogville, Nogova Crimes). The difference between then and now is just that back then they were novel and interesting but today they have exploded in popularity. :p There's no one sollution that would suit all but I do think BI could maybe explore this side of Arma a bit more. But of course not at the expense of the military/war/simulation themes.

Thank you.

It would be technically possible to make a MMO out of OFP as it can support well over 2000 players. The problem is just no such missions, not enough players, no available servers (which would have to be really beefy) and no 'join in progress' feature. :p That last thing in particular is a big obstacle. But sure, Arma 3 could be easily turned into a MMO.

It's probably part of Bohemia's master plan to streamline the series to make it more appealing to a broader audience and eventually port over to consoles and laugh in the face of the dedicated mil simmers over here as they rage over losing the last such kind of game to younglings with gamepads. I kid... ;) I'd say 80-90 FOV feels more 'real' on a smaller screen monitor than something like 120 which distorts the view quite a bit. It's not a 'twitch' shooter after all... :p

Great mod, the best and most professional 'completed' sci-fi mod for OFP/CWA. Would be just nice if the MP server would be back on or made visible in OFP Monitor. :p
