  1. With regards to the Taru not being insta-modular; this is primarily a limitation of the engine that is too complicated to overcome. There are several vehicle properties, such as passenger spaces / fuel capacity / medical supplies / etc. which cannot be dynamically changed in a proper way. attachTo and similar solutions are not good enough for vanilla. The same limitation affects other support vehicles like the heavy trucks. We still believe the Taru is a cool concept that can be used in logistical scenarios. The Huron is more flexible (though the Taru without pod can sling load its pods as well), but the Taru has the pods integrated into its airframe and is therefore arguably easier to maneuver.

    In short: in an ideal world, we'd have liked fully modular vehicles and therefore mid-mission pod changes on the Taru. However, we still really like the concept of the Taru as opposed to just having 2 'regular' heavy copters.

    And the Taru is a good concept. Looks good. adds a lot of not only tactical benefit, but can see it being really fun on mp. flying 5 ft from the ground at over 200 kph just barely missing trees, with the guys on the back seating pod screaming with terror. Getting to fully appreciate my skills.

    Also, does the GTX 970 work with a 600 Watts - Standard 80 Plus Certified Power Supply?

    I actually got it for around $1,400

    Google images for a PCI express power connection. Open your rig and look for these. You need a six and 8 pin. Or it will have 2 8 pin with detachable 2 pins. Same thing.

    600 will well cover a 970. They are made extremely power efficient.

  3. The discussion was about your complaint of only having two helicopters in the DLC.

    Again al, my complaint was the lack of detach attach. I don't care that there is only 2 helis. Like I said. I'd rather features, the new flight model. Ffv, and slingload... than more models.

    But if you are going to only put 2 in. At least make them top quality. Maybe I'm on my own thinking the taru would have greatly benefit from the attach/ detach pods.

    I asked a question. was it a technical reason, or were they not bothered. Maybe they didn't see it as a good feature.

  4. The card is most definitely the problem.

    Get a gtx 970 you will be good to go. Gigabyte one if you can.

    Or a r9 290 "with a decent cooling preferable the gigabyte or the sapphire tripple x )

    Make sure your PSU has a six and 8 pin PCI express power connections.

    With a 290 you will need a good 500 w min.

    The gtx 970 uses way less juice and the better option all around. Just giving you both in case AMD is your preference.

    And also that your case can fit which ever cars you choose.

  5. This has been discussed to lengths elsewhere, and the answer is basically the same: if you don't want to spend the money, don't do it. No need to start the discussion again.

    Al, can you do me a solid and link me this long discussion on why the "taru does not have a pod attach and detach option". From the design of the heli it looks like it should have.

    That is the question I asked. Didn't mention anything about spending money or price of the dlc. I'm happy with the features.

    Then ..To the argument about having to decouple hydraulics and hours of detaching, health and safety procedures forms being filled out, being a possible factor In the decision making at bis. Yeah I really don'tsee what this has to do with a game feature. you completely lost me.

    "write my own script " well that solves everything now doesn't it. Bis you hear that cease working on arma 3. We are just going to write our own scripts from now on.

    As I said if it was a technical hurdle then its understandable.

  6. We have just recently had a new patch released in preparation for the heli dlc.

    Just looking for feedback on your performance of the game since laters patch.

    My own personal experience from it so far are very big spikes of dysnc. Vehicles disappear then reappear. Helis on their sides. This has all been since the latest update . I have played on several different servers and different mission types.

    We've been able to work out a semi-released state for the DLC with Valve. They have applied this method in the back-end and so no game updates were needed.

    The game has been plagued by a lack of "new" asset content. . Then we found out it was only actually going to be 2 new helis. A bitter pill to swallow for some.

    Can I ask you something DNA. Was it even discussed about the new aircraft being able to attach and detach the different pods. A technical difficulty to do such a feature I can accept.

    But Considering the heli dlc(aside from the new features), consists of just 2 new assets with different variants. If it was a lack of ambition to have such an "obvious" feature with the taru. Then that just plain sucks balls.

  8. do tank and vehicle weapons also sway now? Since some of these weapons weigh over a couple of hundred kilograms it makes sense to me that they should have a lot of movement inertia. On the other hand, a 20cm move to the left of the right of my target should not induce a vomit inducing sway for 2-3 seconds. I think BIS is catering to the PvP crowd who wanted something like this in the game. The AI are unaffected by the sway (and fatigue as well) so its just another way of making the simulation more difficult and in my mind, more unrealistic.

    With a weapon held properly I can easily switch targets (turning my body) and drop my sights on them in about 1 second with minimal sway - accurate fire out to about 200M. With this 'feature' that is near impossible now. It seems that I'm just holding the weapon on a pivot or something and it must weigh in excess of 20kg due to how hard it is to bring back on target.

    If folks want this 'feature' that's great - but BIS please put a module in the editor (or a server config) that will allow us to turn it off.

    There are loads of other features that the community has long waited for that should be worked on. This one wasn't one of them.

    I don't think they were catering to any one player type. I play both coop in a clan and PvP wasteland on random servers. I don't lose touch with either style. I believe the intention of the sway and inertia was to make firefights more intense ,Last longer. Feel more authentic. It still needs polishing player side that is for sure.

    A big problem is the ai.

    The ai already had an advantage of being deadly accurate, seeing through grass bushes etc and a cat like awareness. Now It can run shoot, run stand and shoot without the problem a player now will having doing this.

  9. not adding a feature because of troll fears. Is ridiculous. may as well forget letting people fly in the firstplace . Anyone can jump in a pilot slot/ seat. And be a troll. Anyone can jump in a ghosthawk , blackfoot gunner seat and be a troll. Should they romove that too?

    Because I have seen more gunners kill people than co pilots messing.

    It's a good idea. And should feature in the game. People are gonna be dicks either way. Making the game less enjoyable for actual players to cater to the dicks is not a solution.

  10. Playing on stable today. Noticed the really loud wind effects made it into stable.

    As much as I like the wind effect. Flying in first person with the little bird. Does not feel like flying a helicopter.

    If you close your eyes , it instead feels like you are flying a handglider at speed with a tiny propeller on the back.

    As noted a few times in this tread. Maybe toning down the wind noise. The propeller should not be this small background noise.

  11. It would be great if sounds that are outdoor like storm, rain, explosions, shots etc. would be occluded when inside buildings. You just dont get that feeling of being separated from outdoor environment, can't be sure if there is somebody in the building because of the noise around.

    Yeah would be nice.

    These lights look so good, and with all the updated features and additions to the upcoming Helicopters, these lights are far more immersive than the dull circles we have now.

    Yes this is also probably due to the lights going through walls problem. So again the work around is to degrade the feature.

    Honestly if you look to buy arma 3 on steam. Go check it out. A lot of it is misleading. The pictures showing the lighting as it used to be not how it is in-game.

    The lights in arma now look nothing like the picture above. Yes the lighting was going through Walls.

    . After heli dlc they will have more months of bugs from that, then created bugs from Patches. They really need to stop take a good look at the product quality as they sold it. And take note of the copy pasted and downgraded content.

    Just out of curiosity has any dev mentioned yet why sounds are still not being done in 3d. Understanding resources and time being a factor but Is it at least planned? Or been discussed.

  14. there is always less players when the RC is big download ... it was better with e.g. 1.30 RC as it was under 50MB

    Alot of people don't know how to get onto dev branch, never mind rc. I spent a good few hours on rc.. anyone I asked to come, didn't know what it was, or how to get on..

    As said maybe better results would come from One annex mission. One wasteland /slash king of the hill.

  15. What happend to the xH-9 engine/rotor sound? I'm not an expert but current engine/rotor sound while in cockpit associates me more to a lawn mower than an agile 21 century helicopter.

    I don't know if it's my imagination (or different volume on my headset) but I think the wind noise have been toned down a tad but IMO it can go even lower without sacrifying the feeling of flying fast in an open cockpit, as I said before it masks the engine/rotor sound to much.


    this , on current dev build. it is still in my opinion could be toned down. not just Mh6, can hardly hear a 20mm cannon or rockets firing in cockpit of a Blackfoot.
