  1. Bi have to create in engine built solution is not the same to a mods.

Try take into account overall arma scheme, is not only infantry that they need to

take care of.There is DLCs, daily fixes, tools, optimizations, vehicles, planes, helos

with relative small number of developers (I think 50)

arma can't be perfect because it's so complex on many fronts.

Degrading it like you do makes me sad.And I would like to see as much as you the complex medical system.

Take into account bis have people working for them that reply and give actual factual reasons for the game parts being broken based on their work. Nobody needs sounding off excuses on their behalf as you have done.it does not get things fixed in fact it as much help as someone just shouting. Abuses. It is another wasted post.

Post reports of bugs if you want to help bis. And leave the excuses for another forum .

Nothing wrong with criticism of the damage system. If there was, the tread be closed.

  2. Im more than happy to say im upgrading my specs(mainly for arma cpu hungriness).

Hoping someone might tell me what i can expect with the new cpu i hope to get soon. And how it compares to my last.

Curently im using an AMD phenom x4 955, along with a gtx650ti boost.

Im looking to get the intel i 74770, Keeping current gpu.

NEW mother board/system also,Though not sure yet which.

Can anyone tell me what kind of difference i should expect,or anything worth noting about switching systems in general as this is my first system, this good ole phenom.

An associate of mine, has a gtx 570. He recently upgraded his cpu from a phenom to I7. And he has seen vast improvements from 19 fps now 40 upwards.

You could save money by going Xeon 1230 (basically an I7 minus the igpu which if using a dedicated graphics card is not used)

But keeping your I7 get the devils canyon I7 4790 if it retails same as the 4770 from your choice of retailer.

Look your GPU is weak the good news is you can get a decent one for cheap secondhand if needs be.

  3. If you don't like it, close your eyes and imagine it's a low poly model that hasn't rendered properly

Ha when I first seen the wipeout I thought my graphics card was on the way out. Then it hit me that this aircraft was now nicknamed just the wart.

To be fair it seems that this is not as fugly as the wipeout. Looks like it has a bit of stealth edge look without making it just plain stupid looking.

  4. Not true.

Apart from teaching the AI all the new functionality (slingloading, firing from vehicles... ref. roadmap) the focus so far has been mainly on fixing issues. Most recently it's been low level AI optimizations and the pathfinding in buildings (which had been broken for a long time in buildings without the floor level). There are more improvements coming and some "new" features are in the process or under investigation. (I know, I know - and you've hinted it - some of them have been an industry standard and "should have been there from the start").

But to put into manpower perspective - it's been only relatively recently that we were able to expand the team and even now our programming dept. is about 3 times smaller than the one from OFP-DR.

Btw, the cover system in Arma is generic. The AI will happily walk your map and take cover behind objects you created. Not that the compatibility (also backwards, data and scripting compatibility - not to break much of the already created content) and universality didn't come at costs :/

As for the DayZ zombies - running straight up to you is all they need ;)

I hope none of. The devs take any of the fair criticisms laid before them personally. And maybe understand that it is because people like the game they are so passionate about the game. they want for it to succeed therefore get frustrated when iparts are broke for so long.

Glad to know yous are at least getting Down to some much needed improvements in the ai .

There is a big list from ai , game performance, sounds, that have been really lacking . So it can be annoying when dlc gets announced and you look at the current state of play thinking throwing more cogs into the machine that does not work properly.

  5. Was playing a terrorism mission on section 31. Only had use of the armed 4x4. If I had not of picked an engineer we would have never finished one of the missions. Had to fix my own one 4 times. And go back severall times to fix other peoples tires.

There is no going off-road in these vehicle's..

  6. You guys are still discussing terrain eye candy, but what about that shader technique that would better mask units in a distance even without the grass being rendered. That is something that needs to be done.

Relax guy, its not like either are priority on the bis list right now so don't sweat it.

Both are valid desires. the terrain problem is a big drag on all the effort that went into making arma look amazing. It's like my mam showering me with all these good looks only for me to go ruin it by sitting some ugly chick on my face... Sorry mam but I'm easy and she had low self esteem...

    On a serious note.

Imo the shader is more so important. As it is not just a visual fix ,it directly affects gameplay.

  7. LOL, nice one @Nullrick, i feel you.

No but seriously, BIS, if your going to do DLC's, then at least do what everyone else is doing. It's almost September which is release month so i say throw us a trailer or something. Pretty please with cherries on top and a box of the finest Czech Alcohol or what ever. Lol

Also, if you pay attention to the crashes, the wrecks have names, and one noticeable few are the C-( i forgot, but it's the transport plane) and the other is just called VTOL i think. So it's possible they might add in something along the lines of the C-192 i think it was, or the Osprey, and just call it the VTOL. But, i would personally like to see some new aircraft, not anything we've used already, at least for official assets for now. Maybe add the things we've already seen later in. But, yeah, the CH has retractable landing gear, and so does the VTOL. They stated one of them at retractable landing gear.

Just as long as they keep the guy that did the "futuristic" style on the a10 wipeout miles away from any new models. He should have been made fetch tea for a month. And wear a pointy hat with a big D on it.

  8. I believe bis has shown it wants to give help its community going forward. A competition of 400k to the best new mod.

Why not help one of its greatest contributors. There is not a player that has not heard of jsrs since arma 2. The guy making it has done of his own time and helped many of us enjoy the arma series even more. I think its time bis showed him some love back.

Help the lord jar head. Have you seen his work on jsrs dragonfyre. It is sweet.

I personally would like bis to charge 16 Euro for the new dlc. And 1 euro to go to jarhead. Sadly This is unlikely.

But at least some recognition of his efforts. Hell consider him for a position.

You bias arma bitch . Sterling archer. Aka Charlie sheen . Aka.. kick that a hole.

  9. not qualified enough....... are they joking?

funny how pretty much 95% of the arma community prefer JSRS over BI sounds..

on another note... JSRS and blastcore :D

BaHahah this. Surely bis should be giving lordjar, some head?. .. Jsrs has been a cornerstone of arma2/3 . Here is an analogy to some it up nicely...Vanilla sounds It's like a girl who has been pricked by a small penis. then jsrs mod sounds is like she is suddenly being stooped by a stallion.

From the vanilla sounds quaility.... I gots to know what cereal box comes with one of these " qualifications" for a bis sound guy. No offense bis guys loving the church bells, bless the little scamps...

  10. I would like to draw your attention on two additional things:

Where are the camera shake effects / G-effects?

Months ago you anounced this as a new feature that will get implemented soon. I havent seen it until now, but helicopters could really benefit from the increased immersion.

The pilots view is often blocked by instruments!

Every tried to land the Orca? I cannot do that, because if I am trying to hover I cannot see anything in front of me, or what is under me. It would really be helpfull if the DEVs would adjust the camera positions higher for many of Arma 3's helicopters. At the moment it is all about luck if I don't hit something while landing. (Not even TrackIR would help, since the instrument panels of some helicopters are so huge that you cannot watch over them to see what is in front of you.)

Have you tried holding left control, and using number pad keys 4-5 to move the cockpit camera . Might help some.

  11. To be honest it's not expensive enough. The game and DLCs to come should cost more

the only issue is finding the price that is high enough without deterring too many people (maximizing profit for BI).

I would be perfectly willing to pay for a $60 DLC (~45€) if it included enhancements to Fixed wing aircraft, general guided weapon simulation and radar enhancement,

In fact, I think while it is a good strategy to prevent splitting of the player base, BI is letting people off too easy with their DLC model (content = paid, features = free). For example, the RotorLib flight model, because it is completely optional/configurable, could be a paid option because you can have people on the same server use different settings.

First yes have played more than most games I have bought. Looking at you hacker game safe bet let down next gen my ass...

A new dlc with a map that didn't stick rigidly to real life and instead had rivers to

acutally finally use the boats and subs and diving gear.

But yes if they brought out an arrowhead type dlc for arma3 ,60 euro no bother. It gets me through hangovers.

I like that bis does try keep the community playing together even when balancing the books on a dlc. It's tough but something to be proud of as far as game devs are concerned.

  12. Agree with snow. The balancing act sucks.

One nice not huge change for me would be c sat uniforms. Just cannot stand the alien shaped helmets that look more like a squad alien bug guys running around. it just feels wrong seeing them.

Not only does it feel wrong. It kinda has a jokey feel to it seeing them can't take them seriously. I'm playing nearly a year and it still has not grown on me. Most the other "future" stuff I could overlook

  13. Please clarify how you see weapon resting and bipods as being relevant to the situations where inertia typically becomes a factor. It's clear that you want to see those features, but I don't understand the logic you're using to try to cite the inertia changes as some justification for them.

You left out the part where he also said recoil which does. Don't see the direct link between just inertia and bi pods myself. Maybe he means in general why are all these features being added for realism. But then leaving out the bi pods and weapon resting that goes hand in hand when dealing with such factors, till the end.

most servers I play on use Vts weapon resting for now. So can't complain too much. looking forward to the bi pods.

  14. Soooo, anyone else to confirm latest dev branch broke a lot of sounds, for instance, if you're inside a vehicle (ex: Hunter or AH-9 Pawnee) you'll have no sound whatsoever. Am I the only one ?

Has been noted. Few people have posted vids of the same.

    ---------- Post added at 00:21 ---------- Previous post was at 00:13 ----------

I know, and I agree. However, I have "converted" four guys to Arma, and the first thing they all said "this is like Flight Simulator". I usually tell them that your run-of-the-mill gameplay only requires a handful of keys, but people are intimidated by it.

Have been there myself. Is a pain in the hole. But To be honest, the people I have shown. have been impressed enough with the size, scope and what arma is trying to achieve to put the time in to pick it up. And that is coming from consoles thrown right in at the deep end.

  15. I would dare say that reading our blog about DLC strategy could make our intents a bit clearer :icon_twisted:

I read the blog. Don't get what you mean by make it clearer in regards to why start ups are being left out. from what the doc said I gathered start ups were not being implemented because then you would have start ups for helis and not for other vhicles. Which I didn't see as a problem. But maybe there is more to it.

I do appreciate there are are big features being added like shooting from helis vehicles, and the flight dynamics. And a lot more pressing matters with reguards to the heli fm noted in the tread. I was just curious as to the reason behind start ups not being looked at. Guess can hope the start upscome about down the road in the arma expansion.

Anyway Cheers for taking timeout to reply.

  16. Hi,

as we need to keep some consistency with other vehicles in game and how they are controlled, we don't plan to have switches buttons or complex start up sequence.

Honestly this to me is a failed approach just read the feedback in this tread. It's paid dlc. You want it to he successful. Give the people that are buying it what they want? And personally I think start ups are apart of what people want for the heli dlc.

I know as someone who is fully prepared to buy the heli dlc and has put his money where his mouth is when it comes to arma(owning all the series and dlc) it is what I want. It does not have to be a hugely complex start up. Don't worry about consistency of other vehicles focus on this dlc and make it all it can be. If (and I think you will) you see start ups being very welcomed. You know you made the right call.

Releasing the heli dlc without features people actually want and are asking for so to ( fit in with the other vehicles) is imo a bad move. Make it top qualty and let the word spread that arma 3 "DLC" is worth the money. And brings the game to another level.

  17. Fellas,

I feel this ought to be a server operators option. Like disabling 3rd person view.

I think your work is great on it. I just think you have angered so many CASUAL players that this extreme feature should be able to be toned down or off. I bet hard core server players would love this. Your just making way too many noobs frustrated.

They are still perfecting it. And still have to add the inertia. Which when removed because it was not ready at bootcamp caused problems to the other new features.

Just keep the faith and see where they. Can get it to. Before we shoot it down. Could be great.

  18. Actually the issue here is rather easy: as shown in the video when holding the right mouse button the weapon doesn't get any more stable.

I think there's a bug in the swaying system but it would be nice if it was somehow confirmed officially so we could move along.

It was. They had to take out something to work more on it. And this had a knock on to the sway.
