My entire argument is that its stupid to argue that supporters of a project can't be disappointed by a missed release date just because something is free and that its stupid to argue that because a project is free the developer is entitled to praise even after messing up.

And my entire argument is that it's unnecessary, rude and detrimental to the modding community to vent your disappointment vocally.

You can feel disappointed all you want, but modders put enough pressure on themselves as is. Having an entire thread full of people complaining about a missed deadline or requesting more content when you've just worked tirelessly to release it is not justified, and no argument can convince me that it is. Explicitly stating that you are entitled to a free addon is one thing, and that's not what I claimed you did, but when people complain about the lack of a release it's obviously with the intent to put negative pressure on the modder. Those are both displays of a kind of self-entitlement that we don't need as a community, and it baffles me that people are defending it.

Because it shows you can't take their word? I've never understood why people use that as a way to shut down argument. Obviously free mods are just a hobby for everyone but even still, if its not done or close to being done why say it is and get all of your supporters hopes up? Just makes everything else you say after that have less weight. And why are we faulting people for being rightfully disappointed? Just because its a hobby doesn't mean you get a pass for missing self imposed deadlines and getting people's hopes up.

"Rightfully disappointed" and "free mods" are the key terms here. You have no idea how many modders are driven away from the community by this kind of self-entitlement. Nobody is more disappointed to miss a release than the modders themselves. They don't set a deadline and miss it because they want to disappoint you. They dedicate inane amounts of their free time and effort to bring these mods to the community, free of charge, which used to mean that you are thankful for what is given to you. Then when they end up committing to a release, they're inevitably bombarded with ceaseless requests for new or modified content. It's a lose-lose scenario for so many of them, which is why harping on modders for a release date and requesting new content is frowned upon. Or at least it used to be.

Perhaps Bi will continue its nod to the titles past by building out the area around Chernarus (and maybe include the original terrain). That would be cool to fly beyond the current borders of Cherno.

I would love to see a complete Chernarus that expands on the South Zagoria region, but that would have to be at least five times larger than A2 Chernarus, which is probably asking too much from the engine in terms of size and an acceptable level of detail.

As for the above video with the snow terrain, could it be Namalsk for DayZ? There are some articles and videos claiming that Namalsk will be the first community-created terrain for the game, but there doesn't seem to be any official word on it yet, unless I've missed something.

  4. Wow, this is mind-blowing!

Never gave much thought to the naval combat aspect of Arma, but such a well-crafted addon like this really highlights the potential of submarine gameplay. As someone who occassionally toys with config editing and texturing, I can't even begin to comprehend the amount of work that must have gone into this. You don't see an addon that adds so much depth to an underappreciated aspect of the game every day.

I'm having a lot of fun just testing it - thanks to both of you for all the work and effort!

    Spoiler

Two videos from yesterday's operation session in ARCOMM.

In Dispersed we have two simple objectives: rendezvous with friendlies and make your way to the airfield to escape. The only problem; we have are scattered over a large area in Bozcaada with no maps, compasses or other navigational tools, and it's pitch dark. The video picks up after about an hour and a half of stumbling around in the dark, meeting up with friendlies and then subsequently losing them in the ensuing chaos.

In Aussie Valley our objective was to re-capture an FOB seized by enemy fighters in FATA. We approach the objective from a ridge from the east, and quickly find ourselves outnumbered in a firefight.
