Helicopter Search Lights (AI) without sleep command (post 1.34)

Even in 1.34 (with the 'helicopters DLC') AI Helicopters at night wont use search lights. Many people have suggested null=[] spawn { while {true} do { player action ["lightOn", heli]; player action ["collisionlightOn", heli]; sleep 0.01};}; After much testing with Lecks from ASOR http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=26181\ www.asor.com.au) we have found a solution that does not require a sleep 0.01 loop (which destroys MP missions due to lag). Full credit to Lecks for coming up with the code. this is a copy paste from my mission script where I want the choppers to surround (but not shoot) for a "capture" mission. Hence the careless and captive true. They also started as simulation disabled, so remove this if your choppers are active to start with. I wait 30 seconds so they can take off the ground prior to the clone thing - sometimes in uneven terrain they will blow up if you dont wait for them to take off and be airborne. I suggest for uneven terrain you set the helicopter as non simulated, then enable the simulation so it can take off BEFORE you clone it. It may explode: Known Issue: Roter blades may look a bit messed up, but at night with a Searchlight on, you cant see it anyway :) -

Ya, I just tried that and had some more success: I cannot replicate this problem easily outside of Arma 3, but instantly within arma 3 Not sure if its a direct X 11 thing or ?? I have tried Undervolting, overvolting, Downclocking, overclocking....hell I have RMA'd my card! its currently playable (ie ive played in several multi hour missions now) however still GSODs. Oddly I can do it without fail by zoominig in and out on Water on the editor...

Thanks Mario -> Had no issues for about 24 hours and started playing with the editor: Everytime it loaded to the actual editor (map view) graphics lockup. added teh no benchmark -> problem goes away. remove the option...graphic lockup again. Will have to test it over the next week but that may be something involved: What does the benchmark actually do? (aside from benchmark!)

Ill have a bit more of a play with it. annoying if i have to down clock but such is life :O edit1: Ironically, I played with the tweak settingsa bit and found a "gaming overclock profile" built into the ASUS GPU tweak. it overclocks it by ~ 40mhz more from the stock overclock..Now rock steady in Arma3... WTF

Just finished a nice 3.5 hour session in a custom mission with around 30 guys... Crashed in the helecoptor after mission complete, with the same screen freeze. Remained on TS talking to them for 5 mins talking to them whilst screen locked. Latest catalyst beta drivers. Not sure whats going on

Delta, I still get the same problem you do periodically. I actually think it is a problem with the drivers, not specifically with Arma3, just Arma3 is CALLING on that problem a lot. I have had it happen to me in World of tanks and a couple of other games very very rarely. Ive stopped playing ARMA 3 because I just cant justify the potential damage to my video card and computer from what ever this problem is truly caused by. I RMA'd my card and it was "repaired" (NFI what they fixed), and it was better (to be fair), but still didnt fix the problem. IMHO its either a driver or design fault on the card. Otherwise I have been really happy with my R9 280X, just ARMA 3 and it dont play well :(

(whilst waiting for a mod approval delta due to links) additional post: Asus HD 7970 were like 3 year warranty. I doubt its out of warranty. Check links on my post above when it gets approved. Contact asus direct if you need to

Surely not Delta, Your using a Asus HD 7970, I thought they all came with 2 or 3 year warranty? Hi Delta, I have just recieved my r9 280X back from RMA with Asus, which they "Repaired"...wtf what the repaired i dont know. Only briefly jumped on (about 20 mins) this arvo -> returned to full settings etc, no issues. Ill post again in a couple after the weekend which will give me a chance to mess about a bit more, but previously, I could make it hard lock instantly by opening the map.....

Delta, I suffer this problem in World of Tanks also: when it has to render water\long distance, specifically with water (SSAO i believe) and grass(Atoc i believe). Lots of reports of similar problems in BF4 with trees & water.

Ya, I am using factory stock settings, which are admittedly overclocked from the reference cards, but comes from the factory that way. r9-280x-dc2t-3gd5-v2 is the exact model (https://www.asus.com/Graphics_Cards/R9280XDC2T3GD5V2) Tahiti core. Stock settings are: GPU Clock 1070 GPU volt: 1225 Memroy Clock: 6000 Mem Volt 1516 I intitally was NOT using the asus GPU tweak utilty, however I actually downloaded it yesterday or the day before whilst trying to find out what the problem was! I even tried downclocking the card back to "ATI" reference specs, to see if that would solve the problem, No dice though :O I am currently debating about RMA'ing the card. I have the same problem in World of Tanks, however only on certain maps... (which I didnt use to have on my old ATI card, 5770 from my previous PC), however the more I look at this problem, even if it turns out to be a bohemia coding bug that is exacerbating it, the card is still failing to perform as expected\desribed. Essentially: I think BI has possibly inadvertently found a fault in GPU architecture :O
