    Upgraded Ranks

Arma is neither a military nor bureaucratic simulator.

    Are AA3 players tank shy?

Well, maybe it's because Arma is infantry-centered game and cannot properly simulate tanks? Or maybe it's because realistic tank vs. tank battles (which are extremely rare as far as I know) are very slow-paced with very short combat phase, long-ranged, require somewhat skilled crew members who know how to communicate and just simply dull for the most pat?

    RHS Escalation (AFRF and USAF)

Guys, I know I asked you before, but please, for the sake of everything holy, consider tuning down sounds of Russian vehicles, those of UAZes and Urals at least. They aren't that loud IRL. These are civilian cars, they by definition can't be so loud that it is impossible to talk inside or near them. Hell, players can even barely hear horns of other vehicles nearby. I personally rode in the UAZ and I stood right next to an Ural which had its engine turned on and I don't remember myself using an AN/PRC-343 on maximum volume to talk to the person who was literally 15-30cm away from me. :)

Syria - What should we do if anything?

IIRC, Western support of the "truly moderate" local forces is exactly what started all this mess.

Eden editor and Syncing units etc

And I thought that I already saw the limits of human laziness and desire for useless complaining. <_< Well, if you're not interested in receiving an answer to your question then please don't waste other people's time.

Eden editor and Syncing units etc

Yeah, if only BI had made some kind of interactive tutorial and hid it under a graduation cap icon in the upper right corner of the Editor's screen... :D
  7. Oh, please do, I'm pretty sure that there is plenty of people (myself included) that are interested in rare/unusual Soviet tech. :)
  8. Yeah, but I suspect that sending a short string is (slightly) better performance-wise than sending a dozen of decrypted scripts to every client.
  9. I think the key, just like scripts, can be stored at server, like the dreadedentity had suggested. Sounds pretty logical to me: the actual content is shared with a .pbo that everybody has but the key to decrypt it is stored on an author's server. Nope, Arma 3 is a military sandbox and not a civilian life simulator, no kidding. This is clearly stated at Arma 3's Steam Store Page so maybe, just maybe it's you're the one who "does not get Arma at all". ;)

POLL: New Update - regarding new font and sound

The new font is a wrong step in a right direction. Separate letters are more readable due to font thickness but overall texts are less readable due to unreasonable density. There is literally 0 (zero) reasons to have a font with such density in a fullscreen game in an era of 18"+ monitors, let alone in a military sandbox where text readability is at times very important.
  11. You can also encrypt your scripts using some simple algorithm (like XOR, for example) and then decrypt them during the gameplay. It's not a good protection either but it's capable of fending off script kiddies. Says the person who hosts some Sims-alike gamemode with donations (which is the cancer of the Arma 3's multiplayer) in a game that is inteded to be a military sandbox. Oh the irony. :)

    Using a Description.ext ?

Just like you used it before. Nothing's changed.

No New Font ( Please go back to the old one! )

It seems that BI made a full circle: bold narrow font with useless or oversized GUI elements (A2) > semi-bold easy-to read font without any GUI elements whatsoever (OA) > useless/oversized GUI elements make comeback (A3) > bold narrow font all over the place again (Eden). Sigh. BI has thousands of unaddressed issues on a Feedback Tracker and they fixed a thing that was never broken in the first place. <_<

No New Font ( Please go back to the old one! )

Totally agreed. The new font is way too dense and needlessly bold. Even Arma 2 with its clumsy interface have had significantly more readable font.
  15. CUP is the best thing that ever happened to Arma 3. And that's not even a fanboyish praise, that's an obvious, undeniable fact. :D Thank you guys for your amazing work, with CUP Arma 3 transforms into a game that most of us wanted to see back in October 12, 2013.
  16. On a side note, Arma 3 is not a simulator. :D
  17. BIS did many things wrong but, as per your own advice, let us be constructive and refrain from creating a pointless rant threads filled with rhetorical questions and lists of various game breaking issues like coriolis force or bullet in chamber accounting especially if most of these issues were addressed by BI in one way or another. Yeah, I know, I was just being a little sarcastic in response to the "Does BI even fixing anything?" question. ;)
  18. Yeah, the last patch was released in August, 2013 IIRC. On a bright side, I've already bought 8 cool Zefir reskins and couple of Killstreak Kits for various vehicles.

    Apex coop compaign?

I believe it's going to work just like it did in Arma 2: you can play it with an AI squad just like in "Eastern Wind" campaign or you can host a listen server from the Campaign menu and play with your friends.
  20. I'm not saying that it should be replaced with the uglier model, all I'm saying is that in my opinion it might be somewhat beneficial to have the old model available too, just in case. No need to replace anything, just consider throwing it back into the mod and making it accessible through the VA in case someone needing it. :) Well, I'm not a modder myself but from what I gathering, creating a new soldier model or even a significantly improving the current one requires way more time and effort than just putting back a single weapon that is (I think) already made. I thought that this would be a more sensible request than asking for bringing an entire CUP library to Arma 3 quality overnight but since you've mentioned it, yeah, I would totally love to see that. :D Frankly, I'm fine with the current quality. Yeah, it's not the best for sure but the amount of content opens so many gameplay and scenario possibilities that I don't really mind the outdated textures.
  21. Guys, please consider bringing back the old and ugly M249 to the Virtual Arsenal as an optional variant of Toadie's model. Don't get me wrong, I totally love Toadie's M249s (as a matter of fact I always wanted a high-quality M249 because all we had prior was a slightly polished Arma 1 model) but they simply have too many polygons compared to the soldiers carrying them and that at times breaks a... um... "graphical consistency", I guess. For me, it just looks like an alien object from a different, better world, reminding you of what we might have had if BI wouldn't have chosen the "futuristic" approach. :D

Absurd lack of Steam Workshop's moderation

Arma should be pulled out from Workshop because I don't think anybody would volunteer to clean these Augean stables. Steam is a great service for sure but due to the size of its playerbase, its accessibility to dumb kids and lack of proper moderation it probably has the worst community that humankind saw in the last 3000 years of its history and I'm not even sure whether it's an exaggeration or not.

    General Discussion (dev branch)

That's great to hear, thank you for your answer. Frankly, I'm not even that opposed to the telemetry gathering (not in the Arma's case anyway) but I really don't like Microsoft's approach that basically says "If you're not our enterprise-level customer, then your opinion is irrelevant and your concerns about your privacy aren't bothering us, screw you." and it's really good to see that BI took a different path that implies that the company cares about its customers opinions and not just bluntly forces its decision upon them. :) I think many players (myself included) will consider keeping Arma's analytics on seeing that BI acts openly and in a good faith.
