  2. well i thought i had, I'll search for the .log files, not sure they;'re there though. They're definitely not in the root of the server, where should they appear? I am slightly restricted on the server, can only see the install directory. it all seems to be installed correctly. the only thing that i am flaky on is the host name, i assume this is the server name as it appears in the game browser? G
  3. is there a debug console command i can enter to see if i'm getting the external DB connection, cause according to warroom there's no connection (no stats on group profile). G

  8. @GDent , would love a copy of your serverconfig file as i've given up trying to tweak mine. It works, but just not with limitations. At teh moment i have the base module down and the mod working perfectly, but i'd like insto-death and a to configure it slightly differently (make medics more capable, enable respawn button, etc etc...) *edit, oh and let me know exactly which modules you are using?   9. I want to make OPCOM send OPFOR towards the BLUFOR players once they complete a certain task. How do i accomplish this? Should OPCOM send them automatically to reinforce dead/missing units or do i need to sync the trigger to OPCOM or will i just make a reactionary force (unprofiled) to attack BLUFOR * EDIT actually in hindsight, maybe a wiki page of tips and tricks would be cool... something like this only with more tips.... :) G
  10. Yeah it was for the occupying forces, I have the scenario as Namalsk being a Russian training area, am using Caf_ag so have them in as eastern euro rebels but they look a little cold out there. Might see if there is some code I can drop into the init. Or edit the Caf_ag pack. Gav

  13. I'm currently reading back over the epic thread that is Alive... but would love if some people could post up their missions online. Havent found that many, and would love if a more able mind than mine could show off their wares. Or if any generous soul lets me know their server/clan name i can head over to their server and borrow it. I'm looking for any sort of map that could run on a dedi server box for a small unit to play on. 10 people or thereabouts. In the past we've played Patrol Ops, Insurgency etc etc. I'm trying to get alive working with patrol ops but am having some problems. quick edit - last attempt to follow the basic instructions yielded a 1.36gig RPT file, just repeating lines - am in work so dont have lines handy.. but the .log file is this... have alive.cfg in right folder... any other restrictions? Is the servername now static once i get teh .cfg file?     first model questions

    thanks for the tips guys, I can already model, but have never done anything with LOD's before, or indeed the ProOptimiser modifier so i'll test it out. I'll leave the configs well alone and then IF i get it far enough so that i have a working textured model in O2 I'll go fishing for some scripting/config.cpp help. G
  19. Can i just start modelling something in Max and then learn O2 and the config details as I go or will i regret it? That is to say, what are the things that i need to know before i start modelling. I'm think of a ship of some sort. I was going to download this and take a look at the configs etc etc in order to see how it was made. But it's more the 3dmax side of things that i'd like some information on. oh, and does anyone have any recommendations on polycount? I've read that about 25,000 may be a limit??? Gav

    Cheers for that, didnt know about the boat example in the tools. So do you actually have to model 5 different LOD models? or is there some quicker way to achieve this? Or could you cheat and model say just 3. g
  21. tl:dr = nah dont bother i'm just rambling. surely the point of MilSim is to simulate the awesome and glorified parts of warfare, and not the mundane bullshit. Saving your mates, being covered as you retreat, defending the LZ as you await pickup. I'm fairly sure most people would agree. Everything after that, the saluting and rankings can add structure and discipline to a unit, it's not for everyone, and a lot of the time it is detrimental to the effectiveness of a unit, and also it's fun-factor. IMO it's great fun to play with instruction and command over you and support around you. It's why i play Arma. Not so much aimed at the OP, cause he seems a bit... welll..... but to anyone who loves the game but might be sick of the bullshit: you should move units until you find one you're happy with. and to GReeves and the other folks who are latterly talking about the rewarding etc etc. I feel server funding is about as important as anything in regards keeping the friends together. At the very least you need a TS server. These things arent free. Especially if you clan members arent tech savvy. I think rewarding people in-game for contributions to the community out-of-game is a great idea. That said... no one in my current clan agrees. I have played L.A.R.P. games many years ago that had this sort of reward structure and it greatly benefited everyone involved, not seen many examples of it though in online communities. G
  22. How would one go about adding Alive functionality to the patrol ops mission? I've got a fairly decent understanding of editing Patrol ops (for the simple stuff anyway) but i'm new to alive. is it just a case of dropping modules? Is there any inherent conflicts i should be looking out for. G
