Personally liking the jeep with zu23's, although I can imagine it ending up a bit like this guy ^^. There's a lot of "creative" stuff out there so I'd say anything is fair game. I mean... how far do they want to take this? :P In any case, really excited at all the teaser shots, really looking forward to them :D. -
Hello there :) Not sure if this is the appropriate sub-forum, as there's none dedicated to just texturing. My first question is for some basic retextures. Say I retexture a vanilla vehicle, I look ingame, and vehicles have a tendency to look very...shiny and glossy. Specially with the Altis sun on tanks I feel like they are fresh from the factory (shiny and chrome hehe). So is there a way to reduce that? My 2nd question would be about dirt and wear on vehicles. How do you do it? I read about some ways while searching on google etc, but they don't really partain to arma, and so it's often about blurring/dirtying pictures which doesn't really translate well to arma ingame (yes I have tried some of these methods) I'm still a novice, and while I am getting adept at texturing the skin patterns etc. I'd love to not have vehicles look factory new, but battleworn and dirty :D. As the title implies I use GIMP for all the texturing. Thanks in advance! :)

Texturing questions (GIMP)
shiftysean replied to shiftysean's topic in ARMA 3 - MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Thanks for all the answers everyone, appreciate it. Fiddled around with the fog layer etc. they look a lot better and dirty now. Indeed the vanilla vehicles have a lot of this going on aswell so that's ok. Also you probably know this already, but there's a lot of camo patterns on camopedia. @Ma77h3hac83r: Watched the vids aswell, very informative. Guess the next thing for me to do is learning the configs, and I see you have a tut for that to :D. Thanks all! :) -
Texturing questions (GIMP)
shiftysean replied to shiftysean's topic in ARMA 3 - MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Ok so took a ss and got an old one aswell http://imgur.com/e4ZjBg2 http://imgur.com/DDS2rVD The turret in the first shot and the sideparts are pretty shiney ^^ 2nd ss has the frontal armor plates of the turret all shiney and a bit on the part halfway on the front body. Also on the 2nd ss you can see the difference between having smdi on and off. Edit: I learned most from googling and youtube vids, and these stated to desaturate the extra layers and put the color to alpha (the smdi, as, and nohq layers). Hope the guy in the vid explained that right xD Edit2: I love how realistic it looks on for instance the bwa3 mod http://media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/27/26669/1.jpg http://media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/27/26669/3.jpg Looks like specks of sand build-up and muddy down by the tracks (guessing though this is done by hand). -
Texturing questions (GIMP)
shiftysean replied to shiftysean's topic in ARMA 3 - MISSION EDITING & SCRIPTING
Thanks for the fast answers. I'll have to look at some of those dirt rvmats and see how those work. Using a sandlike color for this lightens the entire texture though which is fairly annoying. Setting opacity higher to actually show the sand texture lightens it a lot. I guess this is were my noobishness comes in :P SMDI layer makes the entire texture really dark, and playing around with brightness distorts the original colors I have. So my solution was to disable that layer as I saw no change between having it on or not :P. Can you explain a bit how I can change the SMDI to fix te light reflection? Thanks!! -
Dutch Aviation Emergency Services (DAES)
shiftysean replied to shiftysean's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Unfortunatly that is out of my hands, it's only a texturing reskin of Aplions EC-635 mod. As such the handling part of this bird is with him. (And unless he changed this there's no way I can legally change that). I can see as a milsim unit it's a little too agile, but I myself don't really mind it as much as they are quite agile irl aswell. So yeah, sorry I can't help with handling as it's part of the model that I borrowed ;) -
Dutch Aviation Emergency Services (DAES)
shiftysean posted a topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
Hi there, The Dutch Aviation Emergency Services will add both types of EC-135 helicopters used by dutch emergency services. The Lifeliner 2 (PH-ULP) is a Rotterdam airport/Erasmus Hospital based trauma helicopter, and the police variant (Police02) is a somewhat upgraded (enginewise) EC-135 that's mostly seen around Rotterdam aswell, but all of the policechoppers are originally based on Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam. This mod will add the 2 helicopters on the civillian side, and their respective pilots. The Lifeliner has extra medical supplies, aswell as their pilots and yellow chemlights. The police has red chemlights, pistols with limited mags. These two helicopters will also be baked into the NLD_units mod for our gaming community. IMPORTANT!! This mod is dependant on Aplions EC-635 Hellenic Armed Forces Mod!!! Which you can find here: http://forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?192536-HAFM-EC-635-Helicopter http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=28903 Credits!!! First and foremost this is a retexture of the amazing model that Aplion generously gave to the public. ALL credits to him and his team for the amazing work on this thing! Secondly as a first timer here, I had a lot of help from someone within my Arma group named Smootch (whom you may know as one of the texturers of the NLD_units of Lowlands Tactical). He gave me pointers, helped with ideas and eventually made the config and turned this into a .pbo. Many thanks to him! And finally a big shoutout to Bohemia Interactive Studios for making the Arma series what it is, and continueing to support the community. Hope you enjoy!! And for any questions or remarks you can find me on the BIS forums as Shiftysean, or contact me over at Lowtac.nl (Shiftysean). -Shiftysean- Download: http://lowtac.nl/DAES/ (Thanks to Outlaw28 for the link :)) Changelog Dutch Aviation Emergency Services 16-06-2015 (1.0.0) Release 17-06-2015 (1.1.0) added rangemaster belt to police pilot added server key & bisign changed PBO name changed inside door Lifeliner 2 changed Police pilot uniform -
Funny you should mention that :p We're having a debate on how much we want to be using vanilla vehicles in the mod though. Maybe a standalone otherwise? :p haven't looked at the Fennek or Leopard yet though for retexturing, nor the trucks you mentioned ^^.

CBA - Community Base Addons - ARMA 3
shiftysean replied to vipermaul's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: COMPLETE
While testing another mod I discovered the Kuma (AAF MBT) couldn't deploy smokes anymore. I disabled all addons and vanilla it worked just fine. Started adding mods 1 by 1, but didn't need to search very far :p. First mod I added was CBA and the Kuma no longer deployed smokes (I can hear the "plop" and the counter goes down, but no smoke). This was confirmed by a 2nd person. Anyone else with this problem. Or am I totally missing something here? :p -

Key will be in the update, along with a holster and belt for the police pilots and some minor texture fixes here and there ;) I'll change up the .pbo name, thanks for the headsup :) -

It is very much civil police (think for things like burglars, carthefts, missing persons, big events check). As far as I know the Marechaussee is still using the old Cougars. -
Hello everyone :) This is my very first time ever doing any kind of modding/texturing (be gentle :(), but Aplions psd files are a really nice way to start imo. Started fiddling around with it yesterday and couldn't really stop. I present to you the Lifeliner 2 (a EC135 trauma helicopter based in Rotterdam). Still have some small corrections to make (the stripes are annoying :p) I am very much still a noob at this, but I will try and get some correct pilots in this aswell. http://i.imgur.com/KBxG3tp.png (455 kB) http://i.imgur.com/bx36xO5.png (527 kB) After this I'm planning on the police version aswell, and both will be part of the NLD_units pack, but I'll release them solo aswell.:D Also I need to figure out how to make it a full fledged PBO etc so bare with me. Not much time this weekend, but I'm shooting for releasing the Lifeliner sometime early coming week. Edit: Obviously the model is from Aplions EC635 pack, all credits first and foremost belong to him ;)

Lifeliner 2 Dutch trauma heli
shiftysean replied to shiftysean's topic in ARMA 3 - ADDONS & MODS: DISCUSSION
Police chopper was done faster than expected, including pilot. After a short betatest period I will be releasing these two together as the "dutch aviation emergency services" mod. I might look into making more textures, but these had some priority for my own arma group to use. Anyway, some showcasing of the Police chopper and pilots. -

Think the helicopter is done for now (unless I come across some stuff). https://imgur.com/a/cLwJ5 Now to see if I can get some decent pilots :D -
There's some rumours going on about it being a vulcanic island, so earthquake generator + vulcano. Sounds like they're going to try to erupt all the vulcano's in the world, unless ofcourse NATO pays... http://hbnbm.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/one-million-dollars.png (236 kB)

Does anyone kind of feel like buying the Marksman DLC was a donation?
shiftysean replied to rekkless's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Like it's been said before, all this is to show your support and get a better game at the end of the day (by supporting new developments). As someone who get's increasingly tired of the bussiness model of currentday games (EA with premium right out the gate, season passes for some others, Atilla total war having 2 dlc packs a week within release, general cash-ins), I however fully support BI because this is the best form to do paid DLC. No one gets left behind on core features, and if you're willing to shell out €20 atm, you get 2 choppers, 7 guns, some camos etc. Nothing which splits the playerbase up. Gotta say I couldn't believe this guy yesterday on a server I was playing on, claiming the Cyrus was an OP weapon and that the dlc is pure pay2win.... sigh. This is not the average triple A title dev, and they have a better bussiness model, better involvement with the community, and I fell in love with arma again with all the awesomness in the recent patch. Love the sounds, resting (even against walls <3). There's no shame in not buying the dlc's if you don't want to, but I just don't understand the discussions, or the wild claims that it is pay2win Oo. BI studios has taken good care of it's playerbase imo, so yes I do think they deserve it. -
So I'm slightly biased I guess in this suggestion (and expect that not a lot of people would like it) but I'd like to chime in here. For Opfor I don't really mind if it's Chinese or Korean or Russian forces. Hell let's make a throwback to 1985 and reintroduce a certain faction within the Russian forces still loyal to Aleksei Guba's (ofp's original antagonist) ideals. Poised to take over the world seeing as everyone is in a weak spot right now, and maybe not even agreeing to the fact that Russia is helping the weak CSAT with supplies. (They might even be Greenfors, to fight the Csat aswell). For Blufor I kinda liked the idea that 1 mod had. (Think it was lowland or benelux mod) Say there's a few countries that backed down from the EU in time to not get dragged down to much in the crisis. A new Euroforce, mostly comprising of the western part of EU I reckon. Think Germany, France, Belgium and ofc the Netherlands (hence the bias:P). Have them be the powerhouse (like someone stated already, why is there never any other force than nato, but there's plenty of replacements for the "bad guys"). Sporting somethings like the g36, leopard and leclerc tanks (or future variants of them), maybe a future Tiger helicopter. Anyway that's just my 2 cents :)
