  1. 1. Appreciate that this is a complex, strategic game unlike conventional shooters; in the Armaverse you are only ever a small cog in a vast wheel. Really understand this. Now think about it some more. Act accordingly, i.e. leave big strategic decisions (such as deploying valuable assets; choppers, tanks, MHQ etc) to more experienced players until you have learned the ropes. Realise that by misusing your side's key assets you can easily RUIN the game for EVERYONE. Say this out loud. 2. Use voice comms whenever possible (default key is CAPS LOCK). Announce your intentions (using SIDE or GROUP channel, NEVER on Global!) and MARK the map (again using side channel) with your intended waypoints, targets, enemy units you have spotted etc. Use your compass (K key) to give accurate bearings to team mates. Remember, if you mark the map when Global Channel is selected, the enemy can see your markings. DO NOT use voice comms to give us a running commentary on your day - only mission-critical information please! 3. Listen and respond positively to advice, criticism from more seasoned players. Ignore unhelpful abuse from grumpy 'vets'. Apologise promptly for your mistakes, especially if wounding or killing friendlies. You will be forgiven. For a while. So learn fast. 4. KEEP MOVING. I can't stress this enough. Don't sit still for long periods - the enemy will find and kill you. Even if you are sniping, relocate after every few shots. Ignore this at your peril. BE AGGRESSIVE; deny ground to the enemy. Work with your squad to take the initiative. BE THE FLANKER NOT THE FLANKEE: this game is brutal and you will find it endlessly frustrating if you try to 'get comfy'. GO THE LONG WAY AROUND: adapt your route to use natural cover (hills, woods etc.); making a bee-line straight to the objective is almost NEVER a good idea. 5. Always move from cover to cover. Trees, bushes, rocks, walls and even shadows are best. Never fire from open ground. You are committing suicide. Never run in a straight line, always zig zag. Go prone as much as possible. If 3rd person view is enabled, use it (NUMPAD ENTER) to get a better view of your surroundings, hold LEFT-ALT to pan the camera without moving your player. Use SOUND to detect nearby enemies; headphones are great for this, but speakers, if loud enough, will do. LEAN around walls to shoot instead of just walking out. 6. Stamina. Don't always sprint everywhere - you will arrive breathless and unable to shoot straight. Allow yourself some walking time before arriving at your next waypoint so you are ready to fight immediately. When nearing enemies, walk crouched to lower your visibility (X key). 7. Select the best weapon for the job. When choosing an assault rifle: 7.62 gives more chance of a one hit kill, but they only hold 20 rounds, so for CQB, e.g. clearing compounds, where full auto is your friend, 5.56 x 30 round mags give more 'shoot time'. If crosshair is disabled, press NUMPAD / to enable CQB sights if your weapon has them. Hold LEFT SHIFT to walk slowly with weapon sights up (never just run into a building or around a corner). If you’re a Machinegunner, think that you’ll need to be prone for accurate automatic fire, i.e. avoid long grass as you can’t see sh*t. If unsure, take a 5.56 assault rifle with an ACOG (RCO); it’s probably the best ‘jack-of-all-trades’ weapon. Avoid suppressed weapons (SD) against human enemy if the server is set to regular difficulty (enemies visible on map); your stealth is pointless as they can just press M to see your location. Also remember that SD weapons are considerably less powerful than their unsuppressed brethren. Practise with weapons, esp. AT launchers, in the editor (first double-click to create a player unit, then select 'empty--->ammo' and drop a few crates around. Hit 'preview' and you're good to go). 8. Be patient. This game has a steep learning curve; many of the players around you have been mastering it for years. Respect this.

    Insurgency

totally agree, but I am horrified at so many servers playing Insurgency as CO-OP only, totally removing the PVP element of this unique, fantastic mission. Some folks just need to "win" all the time and are scared of a real challenge I guess :(

    Insurgency

Anyone know what causes the flame bug in insurgency? I dont get it in other missions. It seems worse than ever, played last night and half the map was virtually invisible through the flames....is this an ARMA2 issue?????
  4. Nice euphemism for corruption :)

    Interesting backpack bug

Yeah its meant to be a a bug report - thanks for the link, had forgotten about CIT (haven't done this in a while) :) PS, have also edited 1st post for brevity.
  6. SUMMARY OF BUG: 1. AKM in backpack (Coyote). MP5SD in hand + 2 mags. 2. Stop to pick up loot - drop a can of pepsi and pickup painkillers into free inventory slot. 3. Check backpack: AKM replaced by cloned MP5SD (I now have 2 MP5SDs and no AKM) 4. Try to drop cloned MP5SD from backpack: both MP5SD's disappear (their mags too). 5. I now have no weapons :) Long-winded version for people who are bored at work: I've had stuff disappear from my backpack before, that bug is well known. Today, however, while playing a certain post-apocalyptic zombie mod for ArmA2, I was happily carrying an MP5SD plus 2 mags in my inventory, and an AKM with 6 mags in my Coyote backpack. What happened next is actually quite impressive.... So, I have the MP5SD my hand, I stop to examine some loot - I drop a can of pepsi and pick up a box of painkillers - I leave the area....and decide to switch to my AKM...but it has vanished. I check in my backpack, and instead of my AKM there is a second MP5SD in there.... so now I suddenly have TWO MP5SDs and NO AKM.... ok.....at least I still have my prized silenced MP5 that took so long to find... I try dropping the cloned MP5SD from the backpack and - hey presto! - BOTH MP5SD's vanish into thin air, along with their mags. Within two minutes I have lost all of my primary weapons and ammo. Talk about adding an extra level of challenge to the game ;) Guys, you know I love you all in an unnatural way, but please try to sort this backpack crap out for Arma 3

    Congratulations Bohemia Interactive

As Celery (repeatedly) says, it could be left up to the mission maker to add via scripting, but personally I'd rather see it added at engine level as an optional difficulty setting (makes it much easier to implement in missions)....

    Congratulations Bohemia Interactive

Yes true for quick missions but hardcore SF missions might really benefit from these DayZ elements: never mind about AIDS or fast metabolism, you won't get far on a Mediterranean island in mid-summer without regularly drinking water, it would be another way to put a ticking clock on the mission and force improvisation if water supplies run out.
  9. l mandrake

    Congratulations Bohemia Interactive

I agree, but you could look at this in reverse: what if some of the hardcore survival elements from DayZ were to make their way back into Arma (i.e soldiers having to eat and drink periodically, hunt animals if stranded behind enemy lines, monitor body temperature to avoid infection....)? Could really enhance the SF aspect of Arma III...

    Operation E3

Yeah, thanks to you and any others for posting all these A3 gems and making it easy for the rest of us to keep us - appreciated.

    Operation E3

I'm excited about the new lighting improvements, this is one thing I've been wanting for years....however all the preview gameplay takes place at sunset or night (or underwater) - any chance of seeing some overcast or midday footage? Will there be rain on Limnos?

Are you going to upgrade because of ARMA 3?

    Arma 3 lighting

Rules are for children and idiots. Laws however...well that's different ;) @OP: Welcome to the forums! Don't worry, despite first impressions it isn't usually this anally retentive around here; in fact most days you will actually find plenty of people willing to discuss game-related stuff like your post. I completely agree that lighting is essential to the game experience - you only have to look at how much $$$ Hollywood spends on lighting movies to understand its effect on mood and immersion. One of the big 'concerns' about A3 has always been that, due to the scale of the game, the lighting engine might remain somewhat limited. Don't get me wrong; I find the HDR in Arma2 really impressive, but when the sky is clouded over and there isn't much bloom etc going on, the Armaverse can look incredibly flat and lifeless. I really hope the devs have managed to innovate in this department to make Lemnos visually stunning all day long :)

Arma 3 Community Alpha - Announcement!

The human inclination for pointless and irrelevant argument never ceases to amaze me. :( @BIS: brilliant decision to involve your awesome, devoted community in A3's development - this is the very definition of a 'win-win'.

    Soldier continuously running

I have the same problem, but only infrequently. It also happens when driving vehicles. Playing CO with latest official patch 1.60.
  19. any servers playing this mission, it looks so good I'd love to give it a try online?

    J.S.R.S. 1.5

One issue, but probably engine-related not JSRS.... When a .50 cal gunner in a Jackal, looking down the ACOG scope, I can't hear anything, as if I am inside the metal hull of a tank. So if I am under fire, I can't hear bullets whizzing close by my head, and it is a surprise when I am suddenly dead  Just hoping this might be fixable... Thanks again Mandrake

    Insurgency

Would it be possible to make the Takistani army's allegiance change randomly in Insurgency - i.e. neither BLUFOR or OPFOR can know for certain if they will be attacked by passing TA patrol vehicles. This would increase tension drastically and reflect the shifting loyalties of ANA and ANP units in Afghan, many of whom are ostensibly on Nato's side but have been infiltrated by Taliban (causing numerous attacks on 'friendly' troops). For an analogue of this in Takistan, these shifting loyalties could simply reflect a collapse in the central government leading to the Takistani Army splitting into Warlord controlled factions, whose loyalty belongs to the current highest bidder.... If others don't like this idea (if its even possible to do), then could it be a mission parameter, i.e. set Takistani Army loyalty to BLUFOR / OPFOR / RANDOM ? Just an idea to increase the tension! Training from Amerca's Army Games in ArmA3

I like the idea of passing a sniper course, to allow you to equip sniper rifles in the game - but IMO this sort of qualification restriction only really applies to Single Player, in MP it's just a PITA.

    Insurgency

Love this mission, but why do so many servers play it on Regular difficulty? If you can find enemies just by looking at the map, where's the fun and suspense? Come on people, this game is old enough for you to have mastered the basics - switch your server to Veteran today!

Can your PC max out ArmA 2?

It depends on view distance - do you mean at 10,000m or something more reasonable (4-5,000)?
  25. The ability to filter multiplayer servers by their current difficulty level. Would save long periods of trawling through the browser looking for Veteran games! ---------- Post added at 07:24 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:04 PM ---------- And Takistan/Zargabad or similar contemporary middle eastern theatre (+OA content) updated to A3 engine and released simultaneously with Arma3 (as paid DLC if necessary).
