  1. No mates, im afraid you all missed the point (ahah). Head: no. Center of mass: yes. No effect that makes the bullet go lower than intended can be responsible for not hitting an upper target but hitting a lower just aiming straight. The only reasonable hypotesys is the recoil compensation -which is not a cause in real world because recoil happens when the bullet leaves the barrel, so it's a non factor in terms of aim, but i dont know if it's wrongly modeled in A3 or not. Just try to do it, take a 400m-500m target, use a magnified scope like the RCO or SOS, try aimimng at the head and see what happens. You may hit it just fine and the problem is mine, i dont know. ---------- Post added at 08:18 ---------- Previous post was at 07:35 ---------- @sabre: no they were standing on paved asphalt of the airstrip in Stratis

    Buildings devoid of life....

since it's a war torn country, all we need would be coloured walls with a few frames and pictures, and pile of rubbish and destroyed wooden furnitures at corners. Houses and rooms are not that big, generally, and i am afraid that with stuff in the middle we would take room away from moving around.

    Is the 40mm lethal enough?

i have just witnessed 2 unimpressive events regarding the 40mm. In my yesterday's clan match, in two different occasions, my teammates failed not only to die but even getting something more than slightly wounded by greandes falling less than half a meter from them. The three of them sort of huddled together one on top of the other, trying to pick the tires out of an enemy HGL Ifrit we had to re-use. Since i was the medic i stayed back a bit in order not to get slayed, and the show i saw was not somethnig i would label as "authentic": the Ifrit started bombarding the three of them with its GL, and tosed not less than 15 grenades, 5 of which fell in a 1 meter radius from them. The final result was one dead after the 4th or 5th, and one wounded. There was a man tall perimetral wall nearby that took all the 15 hit barrage, but failed to fall. Later that evening, i was immediately behind two team mates, them lying down and me crouching looking for target somewhat far away. A grenade falls at not longer than 1 meter from me, even less from those in front of me. I havent suffered a scratch, one of them walked away as if nothing has happened and got treated. Of course i agree that without a scaled wounding system, one is healthy and kicking until his HP goes to 0 where it dies, so we dont know the extent of the damage in terms of HPs that a grenade does. But it's pretty desolating that a grenade (or five) falling within arm stretch lenght fails to instakill a footman.

    I miss the Armory !

cos missions in Amrory were all different and you could pass some quality time testing your gear without the hassle to connect to a public server or split your brain and make your own mission.

    I miss the Armory !

an armory in A3, without weapons and vehicles. it must be as sad as it sounds.

    Behaviour "careless" is useless

i use careless when i want them to stay still and dont care to nearby enemy soldiers being there for a purpose. For example i made a living target shooting range with scores of still enemies to different ranges, and set them to careless so that they dont react to my presence while i shoot them down one after the other.

    Buildings devoid of life....

Just to repeat myself I dont think there will be anyone excepting the fact that bare houses are lame, and moreso if we can enter in all of them. The point is that if we think A3 as a car, furnitures inside the houses are like the fabrics used on the seats and the materials used for the interiors. Fact is this car barely moves on a downslope. It has an engine, sure, but it's almost bare. We need mechanics, we need electronics, we need braking, we need gearing. And we need interior styiling and visual caring. It's not that there are 0% done on these parts, some it's at its 90% some it's 50%, but none it's at its 100%, and thats a fact. We need all if this to sell this car. No one has ever seen a car without interiors sold, not even in third world third hand market.
  11. We arent even going to see the real new stuff coming in. Russia's new standard rifle, for example, the AK-12. Instead we have to cope with made up stuff.

    Buildings devoid of life....

as i said in another thread, the sad thing about this state of A3 is that they dubbed as released a game that would have been barely in a beta stage in any other case, and we the loyal fans are bickering in the forums around to push our own agenda for having items and features that should all have place in a fully released game and then some more. You are right in saying that if you have houses in a game and if you include civilians there MUST be furnitures inside, but since Arma is underdeveloped and it's moving from a priority AAA+ to a priority AAA thing (all stuff that should have been in done in a normal beta phase) this will have to wait. Sad but true.

    Authenticity and Arma 3

i want to let the OP know that i am actually reading the article before answering. ---------- Post added at 07:30 ---------- Previous post was at 07:04 ---------- ok now i have read the article. the answer is: it all depends on your audience. People may get sick at walking 5 minutes to get to OA. That will make half the "unpredestined" people fall off. It's the same difference between those who like softair and those who like amusement park shooting ranges: one is a military action that requires all sort of skill and patience, another is immediate satisfaction and the final prize. Many may like both, but they are different activities. How many of our matches (expecially coop matches) end without even knowing how many "frags" we totalled? I play as a medic inside my clan, it's three matches in a row i manage not to shoot a single round. And again this is different if you play in a public server: if i play medic i shoot plenty and most cases i dont even get the chance to heal anybody because wounded people wont wait for me and prefer to respawn. That's why i think Arma franchises should have stick to it's milsim label. Because it made it different from powerhouses like CoD BF MoH. Once you are lucky enough to have your own niche, and you won the lottery taking a lot of new customers out of a mod, when you try to go mainstream you risk of losing the people you had because you are betraying your perceived values and not taking the new people because you are not enough gamey for their tastes. There is plenty of people that will parrot "Arma is not a milsim, it's a sandbox" as if it can change something. A lot of people saw Arma as a milsim, and stuck with it because of that. I'm more offended that the new Red Army rifle AK12 wont be presented in any form in a "futuristic" game because they prefer going the clancy-esque path, than enjoying the critter on the ground. But this apart, you cannot talk about authenticity if you dont put psychology inside a war game. Psychology has so much room both in the immediate action and in the long run. Psychology is what makes armies rout, suppression possible, snipers effective, flashbangs and thermite surprising. And in the long run will gnaw healthy soldiers from inside. Some Bland effects could be reproduced when we play "one life" matches, but almost none of us hardcore gamers would be willing to, because well yes we are hardocre but playing 12 minutes out of 3 hours match on our Arma night is a little too much hardcore, isnt it? And since we armaholics -those fixated with realism- are not so willing to make that extra step i think we know very well the difference between realism and authenticity.
  14. Hardly a game anymore; just a ambitious poorly half developed and user unfriendly FPS construction kit. Half the threads are done by people pushing their own agendas for things that should normally be found inside fully released games and then some more. I have the precise feeling that the lack of 2013 weaponry and vehicles will spectacularly backfire on BIS. I hope they have deeply thought about it and have several serious reasons not to include these absolutely obvious items.
  15. Having this content out of the box is not the same as having to scavenge for it and try it and see compatibilities etc. I have not surrendered yet to the fact that A3 is a futuristic shooter with next to none link to todays factual warfare. New graphics: yeah! new engine: yeah! Less buggy: fuck yeah! Some official content linking it to todays weaponry? It's not poor old maffa requesting this. It makes sense as an historical POV, because huge caches and stockpiles of weapons and vehicles cant be dumped away in a 20 year course. And because just by adding a few of those, out of the pack, will let all those not used to modding to enjoy games both in SP and in MP based on 2013. If i wanted to host a 2013 warfare server i should force all those wishing to be in to have weapon and vehicle mods, instead of vanilla A3: is it right? Stop treating modding as if it were a natural part of Arma. It is not, much more when we all know all the new people coming in with A3. Some people (i.e. a LOT) know nothing of modding, will have hard times in installuing a simple mod, let alone scripting, hosting particluar scenarios or making new stuff. It's advanced stuff, both making and using it properly. Out-of-the-box is not like modding. Stop predending that relying to mods is easy and convenient, because it is not.

    Buildings devoid of life....

well i dont see how furniture in A2 were any good, since you were likely to get stuck to immovable kitchen tables and chairs when you magaged to find one open building. if i have to play in a building (and A3 let you to do so becauwe all houses are open) i want to be able to move freely. If i cant because make all furniture destructable is a pain, i prefer none, because not being able to move a chair IS an immersion killer. And the same goes for windows and shutters.
  17. yeah, just porting them wouldnt do, really.
  18. many would like to stick with 2013 and get free from the 2035. giving them basic instrument to do so would be a great help.
  19. BUt this still is no reason not to give the comunity the most widespread weapons and vehicles around. No one will die if they manage to produce some high quality M16 or AK74, leaving the least spread weaponry and vehicles apart.

CSAT and NATO are not believable

Ah, uh no i was thinking about the long and tormented story of the Presidential Marine One, which is a AgustaWestland EH/AW101. TBH i thought there were at last one or two more helos made by AW in use in the US but i probably mixed them with those in use to the British forces. My statement about foreign merchandise built in US soil was only to explain the general rule of it, didnt want to enter in the particular Arma 3 scenario.

CSAT and NATO are not believable

And the Agusta Westland choppers, too, from italy...

CSAT and NATO are not believable

if i dont remember bad, US law prohibits buying directly military merchandise from foreign corporations "as-is": they must be presented and built in the US by american contractors -this both for security and economical protectionist reasons. This said, most often than not Us military have pretty exact replicas of foreign made equipment. Back to the light CAS jet, the M346, altough an Italian plane, has been proposed for the trainer role by a Boeing-Alenia joint venture: Alenia couldnt present its own plane without an american endorser. same with FN Minimi/M249: they are not imported from Belgium, but built by an american corporation subsidiary to FN, in South Carolina.
  23. its a whim. a useless whim. all you need is a nice interior and a script for parajumping people and supplies, and maybe a static prop as a gate guardian. all the rest is useless whim. You want to play single mission plane pilot go fly on a flight simulator. If you want to be in the same scene with infantrymen either you are a chopper pilot or a downed TacAIR pilot. Besides i doubt anyone would like a 10-20 minutes ferry flight from Stratis to Altis. Planes warfare and infantry warfare are TWO DIFFERENT WORLDS. They move to different paces, in different areas, with different doctrines. We have 1 attack chopper for 4 factions. 1 tank. 2 MRAP and a truck. What is the use for a cargo plane? [/color] or just use ships with a radar, for jeez sake? as i said a third of the map is water. there are turtles in it. Lets go kick some turtles!
  24. 1) what do you mean with vehicle transport player operated? 2) static prop, total waste of time ATM 3) wot 4) AWACS? for what? just admit it you dont know jack about military airplanes and how they operate, do you? 5) paradrops and supply drops: back to 30 second at the beginning of the game 6) see above 7) aerial combat related missions in a 50kmx50 map: you are crazy see 4 8) escort mission see 4 5 and 6 9) you and your 30 friends and a million AI's? why not but go back to 5. [edit] 10) static prop, see 2 11) static prop see 2 [edit end] So, strictly speaking, either you go back to that 30 seconds usage, or cosmetic purposes, or complete misunderstanding of planes and their use. So no, you havent convinced me yet. Feel free to go on. ---------- Post added at 21:49 ---------- Previous post was at 21:47 ---------- that looks a new map altogether, much bigger. Of course the bigger we go, the more sense it gets to have planes. Of course if you playin sardinia or sicily instead of Majorca everything makes a little more sense.
  25. Uh? what do you want to do with a cargo plane coming from off map with a load to discharge? Either you land and unload it, or paradrop it as you go away offmap again... Tell me i am sincerely curious. I may change my mind on the whole issue.
