Low CPU utilization & Low FPS

Well the way I look at it anymore is that I'm going to try and enjoy ArmA 3 as much as I can with what I can do with it. Eventually though the performance issue's will become more and more pronounced as they ignore them, they're already kind of reaching that point. It's like a pot of water on a stove top, leave it on high and ignore it long enough and it will eventually boil over. A lot of people feel a loyalty to BI and think that by saying "Hey I think there's something wrong here guys" they are betraying that loyalty. Maybe over time they can fix the problems. Obviously a lot of things might require extensive rewrites of existing systems and would probably require both a lot of work and a lot of resources, which is why I feel like if it's not going to be fixed before launch it most likely never will be.

I pretty much agree with this. I don't understand why the AI would know your exact position automatically if you shoot them.
  3. Overclocking is not hard, you just have to understand a couple basic things. Voltage increases heat and clock speed increases heat. Use common sense and judgement, I.E. no large blanket changes, change things slowly but steadily. You wouldn't go from 1.35v to say 1.65v but rather you would increase in small increments, same thing with clock speeds. If you're not trying to hit the bleeding edge, then you should be fine. Learn the max load temps for your particular CPU and always try to stay 5 degree's Celsius below them. With that said though, overclocking should never be the answer to performance problems in a game. It's one thing to say that you're getting 60 fps but you want 120 fps so you overclocked the shit out of your rig. It's another to say you're getting 10-15 fps and the only thing you can do is overclock because there's no better hardware currently available. That's when it's the software's problem.
  4. I just want to reference your post because this is the general response I see whenever someone posts this exact same issue. I've had countless people from A lot of different ArmA groups tell me they experience the same thing. MP performance is gated by something, and no matter of changing settings will change or fix that performance. I can drop my resolution to 640x480, and I will still get 15 fps with every setting disabled and on low. I'm running a 50/25 mbps connection over fiber optics straight to my house, I've played on every missions possible on every server possible ranging from simple DM to Domination and Wasteland etc... There is something wrong in regards to the multiplayer portion of the game. I have yet to find a server that is not hindered by this, even servers people suggest on these forums. I don't play wasteland, but I've tried JoSchaap's Wasteland and Sa-Matra's Wasteland and some of the other ones, and they all perform the same. The only thing I can say that I have noticed that makes a difference is the amount of players in a server. If you go into a server with say 2-3 players in it, performance is bad, but it's not as bad as I have experienced it. Now if you go to a server with 5+ people, the performance just tanks. If it's a server issue, and the servers can't handle the load, then either there's a large portion of this community trying to run A3 servers on Amiga's, or the dedicated server software or this game can't make use of all of the server's resources. I'm willing to bet that the latter is more plausible.

Mostly I would just hop in the editor and put units down and test out the weapons at various ranges. Maturin could be right about it just being a hit FX glitch because it seems to be when you hit the outer edge of the model is when you notice it happening the most. @Maturin I've been playing since 2004 and joined the forums in 2006. I lost my forum account with the web hack and just gave up trying to recover it after being ignored by their support staff. That's probably why this account has a join date the day after the hack . The only bullshit I see comes from people like you and your attitude.

Nope it's happened in single player, it could very well be a problem with the hit FX, I have no idea. As far as testing, I just meant that I've done a lot of testing in general with the weapons in game, mostly to learn their efficiency at different ranges. I've had this come up quite a bit across all sorts of weapons ranging from pistols to high caliber rifles. Also with that attitude, I really could care less whether you believe me or not. I'm not sure if I pissed in your Corn Flakes or something. Also what discord am I causing, because it seems it's only affecting you.

I've done a lot of testing with this and it does happen. Sometimes you can squarely shoot someone right in the head, get the blood splatter FX and they continue on fine. I'm talking with a 6.5 round too, not like a 9mm. I've noticed it a lot with the big caliber snipers because the blood poof is easy to spot and a .408 or .50 to the chest center mass is going to drop you no matter what.

Low CPU utilization & Low FPS

Windows will always create a pagefile whether you disable it or not. Some programs rely on having a pagefile. ArmA doesn't use DirectX triple buffering which is why the FPS with vsync is so limited and drops to 30 or 15 if you can't maintain 60 or 30 fps.

Low CPU utilization & Low FPS

A couple things that might help are to check your pagefile size and make sure it's set to the recommended size. ArmA 3 by default uses a different memory allocator from the windows system allocator so if you monitor your pagefile it will grow in size, but it will look like it's hardly being written to or read from because it uses a separate memory allocator from the Windows system memory allocator. This was why my tests of the pagefile usage were so skewed earlier on in this thread. Another thing I've noticed a trend of is that people with SSD's tend to say they have better performance than people who don't specify or say they are using mechanical drives. I don't have an SSD to make a comparison, however it should be pretty obvious that an SSD is 5-10x faster than most mechanical drives. Also where you have ArmA and Windows installed or the pagefile assigned to are important as well. For mechanical drives you would want your pagefile and preferably windows installed on a separate drive from your games/ArmA. For an SSD it really shouldn't matter as long as your pagefile and preferably windows and your games/ArmA are installed on the SSD.
  11. Love the mod, Finally can turn the skill up to make use of better AI without the fear of getting pistol sniped at 1000m. Only bug I noticed so far is that vehicles do not seem to want to engage. I tried with both the Autonomous UGV as well as the Pawnee and the Blackfoot. *edit* I should have added that I'm using the dev branch and I didn't read whether this mod was compatible or incompatible with either stable or dev branch.
  12. The Empty UAV/UGV's might not work yet or are perhaps bugged?
  13. Put one down like this. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=170000635 And you should be able to control it like this http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=170000653 The Empty UAV/UGV's might not work yet or are perhaps bugged?

    Drone Controls

You can also right click on a UAV/UGV from inside of the terminal on the map and attach the terminal that way. You don't have to walk up to it. You can actually control multiple drones this way very easily.
  15. You can connect to a UAV from anywhere inside of the terminal. Just right click on the UAV on the map inside the terminal and connect the terminal :) Kudo's on the UAV's btw, Superbly done as far as I can see so far.
  16. Good lord, I didn't know it was that in-depth :). Thanks for the info.
  17. go up to the UAV and connect the UAV terminal to it. You have to either equip a UAV terminal or use the UAV Operator who has a terminal by default. Then you can either take direct control or you can use the AV terminal to give them basic waypoints. Also we need a way to set Altitude from within the AV terminal for the UAV's when they are in autonomous mode.

Arma 3 BETA multiplayer FPS drop

Explain to me why I can hit 40-60 fps in SP content but when I go into any server online I can't get over 15 fps no matter what my settings are. I can drop my settings down so I get 100fps in SP and I can join a server and still get 15 fps. Again, explain to me how this is my system and not the software....

Arma 3 BETA multiplayer FPS drop

I have a 965 overclocked to 3.9ghz and I get the same performance as well. Lowering your settings will help in Single Player, but for whatever reason in multiplayer I can't get over 15-20 fps no matter how long I drop the settings, even object view distance doesn't affect it.
  20. I kind of find the SABOT hit effect to be a little cheesy. I think maybe yellowing the sparks a little bit and making them more teardrop shaped or have some sort of glowing trail kind of how tracers are done rather than perfect circles would make it seem a little better.
  21. Activate it through Steam. https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=5414-TFBN-1352 http://store.steampowered.com/ At the top of the page is a button that says Install Steam, if you need to download it.

Low CPU utilization & Low FPS

No, what I'm saying is that in the RV engine, all animations are sync'd to your FPS so that no animation can actually happen faster than your current FPS irregardless of if it "Should happen faster. As an example, you have two computers running ArmA 3, one gets 30fps and one gets 60fps. If you played the reload animation on both systems at the exact same time, the one at 60 fps would finish much faster than the one at 30 fps. Because of the fact that A lot of your movement is limited by the animations in the RV engine, for example you can't interrupt animations except in specific circumstances, it leads to a feeling of sluggish or laggy fps.

Low CPU utilization & Low FPS

The rough or unsmooth feeling in ArmA is because animations and such are tied to the rendered Frame Time or FPS. For example as your fps in ArmA drops, the speed with which animations run and things like your fire rate are sync'd with that and in turn slow down as well leading to the feeling that the game is really laggy or unresponsive.
  24. It's also a little off for the APFSDS rounds as well. you have to aim 1 "notch" to the right to compensate.
