  1. No, it's been like that for a long time, maybe forever.
  2. Revo, that screen-shot also shows an old problem which has been bothering me for a long time: The reticle is affected by heat blur.
  3. No it's not fine. I made another one with a dark background just for you, to make it brutally clear how much banding there is around the reticle. That same banding is clearly visible during daylight too. Do you really think that is okay? It's not. http://images.akamai.steamusercontent.com/ugc/507027582296361137/3A46A7EE20994A3C6AD4D3DE9D6BCDC2A3E6DC9E/?interpolation=lanczos-none&output-format=jpeg&output-quality=95&fit=inside|2048:1152&composite-to=*,*|2048:1152&background-color=black Again, I want to clarify that I'm not using any weird settings or filters and I'm looking at a high quality IPS monitor which is hardware calibrated to sRGB standard. It's possible that the first screenshot doesn't show the issue clearly if you have a shitty, or not properly calibrated monitor, but this last screen-shot should come across even under those circumstances.
  4. I was running default saturation. DoF and Bloom off. The banding that you see isn't bloom, it's in the texture itself and certainly shouldn't be visible at default settings. Also, the optics used to get less bright during night. After this update, they don't do that so it's super bright and completely useless during night.
  5. Showcase night is weirdly bright now: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=661578779
  6. This optic (and probably others) look horrible after the update. Too bright, and banding at the edges. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=661571931
  7. I've seen both good and bad things regarding this visual update. I had one crash, which may have been related to visuals. Here's a strech of road that looks like it came straight out of minecraft: Arma 3 goes pixelart videogamey style!
  8. Oh! I remember requesting this a long long time ago. Nice to finally see it implemented. Old codec was kinda outdated. :)

    AI - suppress command

How about making the suppress command context sensitive? If AI is already suppressing, then the command could be replaced by "Stop suppressing".

    Weapon Switching on the Move

five-seven5-7 that is a good illustration, but clearly it's made for a weapon without a folding stock. The "rear" position will be very awkard, since you can't kneel without digging the muzzle into the dirt. We always carried with muzzle up, but as I said, we had folding stock. Standard procedure will be different for each army and each weapon type :) (which is just another thing that's going to be a bit too complicated to implement in arma)

    Weapon Switching on the Move

Correct en3x, but I don't see any way that could be implemented in Arma. Some compromises will have to be made in the game. I don't know what those compromise are, and I guess it's up to the devs to try out some different appraches and decide what they want to do. Everyone saying that it's a good idea to try and have the weapon on the chest instead of the back do have some good points (it's what a real soldier would do when switching to sidearm after all), but there are going to be a lot of hurdles to overcome before it can work in a believable fashion.

    Weapon Switching on the Move

You are right. It doesn't work in the real world. One has to get rid of whatever is in your hands and grab the primary weapon with both hands before being able to sprint, or even jog. On the other hand, a real world soldier wouldn't put his weapon on his back in the middle of combat either, so this is a hard nut to crack for the Arma devs. As I said earlier, it's a fiddly process and takes much more time and effort in the real world than it does in Arma. There are several steps involved. First you need to get out of the sling. Then you need to detach the sling from the rear attachment point and put it on the middle attachment point, before you fold the stock, and then finally put it on your back, making sure the charging handle is outwards so it doesn't poke you in the back and hurt as you move around. The only situations where we put our weapons on our back was when we did work that required both hands, such as setting up camp, digging trenches, carrying stretchers etc...

    Weapon Switching on the Move

Yes, it's amazing that this is finally here :) I do find it a bit unrealistic that you are able to switch just as fast when sprinting as when walking. Remember, the Arma 3 soldiers carry their primary on their back. Switching weapon when having the primary in a sling on your back is a fiddly process. I see two solutions to this. Either make the weapon switch take more time the faster you are moving, or if you try to switch while sprinting, force the soldier to slow down to a jog instead. In real life, one would probably only attempt to put his primary on his back when standing still, or maybe while walking, but I understand Arma 3 players want fluidity in the gameplay, which is something I want too, so the two previous solutions I proposed are not 100% realistic, but are intended to strike a good balance between authenticity and gameplay.

    AI - suppress command

On a somewhat related note: AI in Arma3 often walk or even stand right on front of a squadmate that is firing. This often happens in cramped spaces of course, but I've seen it even in open terrain with squad in line formation which really shouldn't happen. A real soldier, if he has to change position in that line will always walk behind it, not in front of it. This could probably be achieved in game by creating some kind of "no walk" zone in front of soldiers, like a cone extending outwards for a certain distance that is active either when squad is in combat mode, or when the soldier is firing his gun.
  15. Nice to finally be able to switch weapon on the move, but perhaps the new way gives a bit too much freedom? I always expected this to force walk if it was ever implemented. Now you can even do it while sprinting, without slowing down one bit. I don't find that very realistic.

    AI - suppress command

Really cool feature. A few observations: 1. I get a lot of "Negative" as reply when ordering to suppress. I guess it is because the AI doesn't have clear line of sight to the target. Perhaps they should have some freedom to move slightly to achieve a clear line of sight before they reply "Negative"? 2. The status under the AI's name while suppressing says "Missing s." which I guess means missing string. 3. When an AI is done suppressing, he goes for a walk, about 10m forward of his initial position, even if order is to follow leader and leader stands still the entire time.

    Riding The Bolt Home

I served in the armed forces and slamming the mag is actually the correct manual of arms (how we were trained to do it) for a lot of modern weapons. The magazines (not speaking of the civilian stuff here) are made to take that kind of treatment. If you didn't slam the mag then you can't be certain that the mag is properly locked in, and that could potentially cause a weapon malfunction, or the mag could simply fall out of the weapon after you fired the first round. However, as always, there are exceptions. One should follow the manual of arms for the particular weapon one is using. It's not the same for all weapons. We didn't slam the mag's on the G3's for example. They have a different locking mechanism than an AR type weapon.

    Riding The Bolt Home

I was just in game and watched it, and you are right. The M14 animation however is obviously riding the bolt home.

    DirecxtX 12 for ArmA 3?

Dota 2 Reborn has been publicly available since June 2015. It did not support Vulkan then, and it does not support Vulkan at the time I'm writing this. Your statement was "Source2 games should use Vulkan out of the gate.". Under the circumstances that I've just explained to you, that statement is clearly wrong. Source 2 Vulkan support is something that we might see in the future, but so far, it's not been publicly released even though a Source 2 game has been publicly available for almost a year.

    Riding The Bolt Home

I can confirm that this is the case. This is correct for most weapon types, but there are exceptions, such as MP5's and G3's, where the correct method is to start with pulling the charging handle back and locking it into a notch, and then releasing the magazine and inserting a new one, and finally unlocking the charging handle so that it rides forward. By the way, which weapons in Arma 3 are animated in such a way that the soldier is riding the bolt home? I must confess I haven't noticed it personally :)

    DirecxtX 12 for ArmA 3?

The Unreal Tournament remake finally has a somewhat working DX12-mode in it's public alpha version. I've played around with it a little on my FX8350, R9 290X PC (the kind of PC that really should benefit from low overhead API's) and sadly I have nothing good to say about it at all. Performance is horrible, much worse than DX11, and DX12 doesn't even support exclusive fullscreen mode, so I cannot get Freesync working. Unreal Engine DX12 implementation is horrible at this point. I hope something good can come of it in the end, but at this point my hopes and expectations are not high.

    DirecxtX 12 for ArmA 3?

Wrong. Source2 has already been used publicly for Dota2 for a while and it does not support Vulkan yet in it's public version. In fact, it default's to dx9 (but can also be run in dx10, dx11 and OpenGL). It might get Vulkan support eventually, as we both know they are experimenting with it internally at Valve.

    AMD CPU Bottleneck?

Sounds like you are comparing a low end (and possibly outdated) AMD CPU against a new high end Intel CPU. Pointless comparison really...
  24. Even the original Operation Flashpoint works with 4k resolution :)
  25. All this talk about mouse drivers, windows settings and acceleration fix is irrelevant. This problem has to be in Arma 3 game engine.
