    Yes, it is probably better to copy and paste only the "face" (eyes, nose, and mouth areas) and merge it into another hires ARMA 3 texture with hair, then blend the facial colors to match. The results would look much better but more work. I am a total graphics amateur so do not have the skill set to pull this off. Just a copy and paste newbie! Seems modders nowadays are almost like Surgeons! 😄 Looking forward to any updates!

    Hi Jove, I did not know that original textures were that small. I wonder if we can take the CWC texture files and run it through an AI scaler to enhance details and scale it up? Then rework it in a paint program? I just tried some online ones: https://vanceai.com/ https://icons8.com/upscaler https://imageupscaler.com/upscale-image-4x Both look like crap. I just upscaled it in paint.net app and it looks better. If you have an idea I would love to help as the characters from CWC were so interesting. Edit - agree with you about remaking ARMA 2 in ARMA 3. I want to play Red Harvest with Coop and Razor team again in ARMA 3 engine. Ideally in COOP MP mode online for a refresh. The CO, then the PMC, BAF and ACR missions! If there was an easy way to do a port or CUP/RHS replacement scripting, that would probably help. Thank you again for all the hard and great work!

    COOP from Razor Team FINALLY in ARMA 3!!! Just a question, any chance to update or port the "skin" textures from CWC? Mainly the protagonists and antagonists (Guba, Victor/Viki Troska, James Gastovski, David Armstrong, Sam Nichols Robert HAmmer and Dmitri Lukin from Red Hammer)?

There is nothing that clarifies if the ARMA 3 DLC will be locked to the HB copy of ARMA 3? I only want the Contact DLC and maybe Dayz.
  5. Look for 4SFG Jarred 96 overhaul mods on STEAM WORKSHOP . You just load his mod + requirements and it will change the uniforms and weapons to RHS/CUP/Niarms and SMA weapons. No changes to your mission using default assets. Quick way to update or refresh your game missions. I use this for both SP and Coop play myself.

    We need Arma 3 on consoles

    I run ARMA 3 with both KB+M and DualShock Joypad for DRIVING. If I can figure it out, I would FLY with KB+M, but a stick or joy pad should work. Infantry needs a KB+Mouse for aiming, and all the positioning, not to mention command module. Actually, Cold War Crisis was released on XBOX so should review how the controls were on that as a benchmark, but while the aiming and movement works, it is clunky compared to KB+M. If the player never used KB+M, it is possible for this but if cross platform play is allowed, the joypad players would get slaughted by PC players due to superior controls they have access too. The easy solution is to ENABLE USB KB+M controls ALLOWED on the consoles. They can move up from joypads to KB+M in the future.
  7. I did a search but could not find it, but has anyone ported the classic CWC faces over to ARMA 3? Specifically, GUBA, Anderson, Robert Hammer, and all the protaginist and antagonist? I do see the ARMA 2 faces in game though.

    Arma 4 a look to the future

    I am glad they are thinking about ARMA 4! If the game can have "standard" settings at this quality level and use multicore properly, it will be a Alpha MUST BUY for me like in ARMA 3! Just be honest about the hardware requirements because many of us would like to plan any upgrade properly.

    I like the upcoming generation console boxes in terms of specs as a game and work PC. Add a USB KB + Multibutton mouse, plug it in, and it should be good to go. Most good PC games are launched on the consoles first now but ARMA is a legacy beast in terms of resource usage. It is not console optimized. Look at Grand Theft Auto Series and Red Dead Redemption from Rockstar. They optimized the engines for consoles first, then need a fairly powerful PC to EXTEND that game, such as hires textures, higher sound fidelity and high poly models. ARMA is the other way around... it is built to the limits of PC CPU and memory usage due to the scripting engine so it would be sub optimal on the consoles. I think ARMA 4 and beyond may work but then the game engine will have to scrap the current scripting compatibility or rewrite script code in new formats, or get castrated by console reviewers for slow performance.

  11. Wanted: The Thing monster type for ARMA 3 like this: I was playing this for a bit and it is awesome. I think something like a dripping bloody blob of meat and tentacles with an every growing mouth that ate up the players and AI would be a great horror or escape mission. Imagine a virus infecting the population, with carriers of it. Similar to zombie effect except they get bigger and bigger. You can chop it down by blow bits of it off until it reaches a critical state to kill it. Can use some of the workshop horror mods to stick heads, arms and foots onto it (attach points?) to grow it. Follow a huge blood trail as you try to hunt it down or escape it as it tries to hunt you down. Maybe something like an Aliascartoon type effect?

    User Mission Request Thread

    I am currently playing Cold War Crisis remake by Cnotk from Steam Workshop https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=756113314 and am having a hard time flying the AH-1Z Super Cobra in the Air Superiority mission. Is there a RHS Helicopter training mission that I can practice on? I am the pilot and the AI gunner does not seem to want to lock on tanks when I set it to use Laser Guidance or Hellfires. It does alright with the machine gun, but I believe I also need to learn how to fly better. I can fly the ARMA 3 Little Bird alright with basic flight model but RHS seems a tad different.
  13. @Groove_C That is great information! Thank you! It does look like 8C/16T should be the minimum for future upgrades! Now I hope BIS will give us a preview of the ARMA 4 engine showcasing CPU, RAM and GPU scaling soon so we can make a good decision later.
  14. Typo! I meant Zen 3 / Ryzen 4 after I check the IPC. And yes, I would consider 6 core or maybe 8 core but I do not know of any game that "really" uses that many CPU cores. Probably better to buy GPU for "other" games unless someone tells me that ARMA 4 engine uses more cores efficiently.
  15. @ cb65 what oldbear said. He is correct. For GPU intensive games, look at which gpu is better. For ARMA, 1060 GTX with a lot of VRAM is enough. I wish I can find a 5775C here but by that time, I probably will look at Ryzen 3 with 8 cores as an upgrade. We will see how that goes.
  16. I am replaying Cold War Crisis but in ARMA 3 (finished Resistance and currently CWC by Cnokt) so looking forward to this.
  17. I wanted to add my 2 cents before deflation but I have to agree with Groove C. I went through 3 systems for ARMA (ARMA 1, ARMA 2CO to ARMA 3) and the biggest boost for me was going to the highest IPC Intel CPU, with the lowest latency RAM with the highest frequency and an Nvidia GPU. My setup now: Intel I7-4790K @ 4.5 GHZ Same RAM as Groove C Nvidia 1060 3GB. I play at 1080p on an HDTV in the living room. OS Windows 7 on 256GB SSD ARMA 2 and 3 with mods on a separate 1TB SSD. With no mods and online, I get well over 30 FPS ~ 40-60 FPS most of the time even with both CUP and RHS mods. Tanoa I get 40-50 FPS. This is noticeable with the high poly trees and houses. So getting a 1660 Super or 1070 would be a good idea. I do not have the Contact DLC so do not know how that performs. I play escape a lot so the sessions are long ~ 1-3 hours average. We hit 4-5 hours a few times on huge maps like Chernarus or Altis. In SP, with a ton of mods ACE, Blastcore, Dynasound, Smarter Tanks, Real Tanks, and some sound mods, I get really good FPS until a firefight with over 30 AI and more than 2 tanks blowup. The ACE cookoff and medical affects kills FPS at that moment. That is not even using all 4 cores on my CPU so if there was a SP Headclient mod using at least one core, that may have helped. You can actually speed up ARMA negligibly by copying the larger game PBOs or EBOs to RAM and running it off that. It removes most of the popups. Worked incredible for ARMA 2 before I got the SSD. But since ARMA 3 is so huge now, ~ 50 GB, better to put the game files onto a SSD due to costs unless you have 96 GB of RAM. Bottomline, get the RAM and SSD first as you need that to maximize the CPU efficiency. You can run ARMA at lower video settings until you get a GPU to run ARMA and other games you want at max quality. I run everything on Ultra except for Shadows, Skies and Water at normal and get smooth play.

    Fifty Shades Mod Set

    Awesome. I saw this on Steam and already added. I wasn't sure if it was a Zee kit or not. and why not keep the "creepy" faces? We need these types of weirdo varieties to create atmosphere. Imagine walking around a town when one of these types eyeballs you on Patrol! LOL... Maybe a weird civies head pack later on? You can configure the heads to Max' Women's mod to use the apparel or extend it.
  20. Your RAM is slow Jacob. The latencies are killing ARMA for you. I am running an old Haswell 4790K 4.5 GHZ with DDR3-2400 at CL10, same as Groove C, and we both get more frames than you. Try to tighten and lower the latencies to see if you can improve the performance. One thing I noticed recently playing ARMA, my ram heat sinks get very hot! No other game does this so I had to put a FAN blowing on the RAM sinks to keep it cooler and it stabilized the game. It does not help that can get up to 34 C where I am.
