Yeah, equipment is supposed to affect stamina. Doesn't it? I've never tried really. It's a shame different weapons having different maneuverability would probably meet a lot of resistance of people who think negative acceleration messes with your aim too much.

You get showcases and the freaking editor. That's enough.

Action replays similar to Halo is one thing I thought all games would have by today... 6 years ago now. I also thought Garry's Mod would reinvigorate the Construction Set genre and that every game by now 9 years later would come with a similar, accessible editor for casual players. Anyways I think this is impossible for ArmA. Say you're recording a match using a lot of AI and ballistic mods -- when you watch the replay later on and don't have those exact mods installed in those exact versions the game won't have any idea what it's supposed to be showing you. I could be wrong but savegames and replays usually don't carry over too wide versions in many games and I absolutely don't see how it could work if you were to remove or drastically change a component. One replay size would have to eat a disk. It would be a vanilla only feature and not worth BIS' time, I'd say anyways.

Will-my-pc-run-Arma3? What cpu/gpu to get? What settings? What system specifications?
Sneakson replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Hey, can anyone with a pretty new $300-500 NVidia graphics card and i5/i7 processor tell me what settings you can run to get stable 30 plus and stable 50 plus fps? I'm considering upgrading by the end of summer for up to about maybe $1500 also including a chassis, motherboard, memory... probably going to end up buying everything except drives. I would appreciate if you could test these exact settings during Showcase: Infantry: 1920x1200 or 1920x1080 Visibility 1600, 1300, 100. Rendering res 100%, HDR Standard, Anisotropic Ultra. AA x2, FXAA Ultra, ATOC All trees + grass, PIP Ultra, Dynamic Lights Ultra. Post processing Normal. Texture Very High, Objects High, Terrain High, Cloud Ultra, Shadow High, Particles High. Much appreciated! I'm currently running a pretty aged ol' GTX 560 Ti Hawk and vintage 2.84 GHz processor. Currently I run the Infantry showcase in 20-40 fps with an average above 30 and Helicopters in about 10-30 with average 20 I guess. -
I'm probably gonna upgrade my computer by the end of summer.

Message system for repporting and giving/reciving orders needed.

Just use voice chat. Auto-reporting already tells you what you've spotted and where in what direction and if you need to get any more specific than that just use voice chat. -
300 meters is hardly sniping :p I think aiming is terribly difficult right now and the recoil is way too high. Because of this I can only do single shots and then I may as well aim at targets far away that don’t move much or tempt me to auto. Some weapons are good for short bursts at like 50 meters but going that close to the AI is really pushing it. Hell, hitting anything is hard. For ranged combat you're at least prone, stable, your target can't move a lot, you probably won't get hit... what's not to like.

Sneakson replied to Placebo's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Dude what's really the point of having a $3000 rig when you can't tweak fo shit? I've got a GTX 560 Ti Hawk unclocked or even underclocked slightly and a 2.84 GHz processor running the game on high-very high settings with a couple on medium and several on ultra and I get up to 40 fps, average around 25 I guess. -
The reason I don't use 4 different keys for sprint, run, combat pace and walk is because they won't fit nicely on neither my keypad nor keyboard if that's what you're saying.

Helicopter physics impressions - simplified

"Beta soon"? Still alpha. If beta is released and it still is bad then you have my permission to complain. Anyways ARMA is mainly about infantry so I think they should go for making playing infantry simulator deep before they try making any vehicles overly nerdily realistic. -

W+S and S+W work well for me. All I do is move my middle finger down slightly from W to the middle between W and S to toggle combat pace and to toggle walking I put it on S and roll upward gently onto the W button. Shift to sprint naturally. The only issue is the stopping thing. I would of course like to put backward, walk, combat pace, run and sprint all on a vertical line but that's not possible on any conventional keyboard unless you do it sideways... I could bind everything if I used double tapping to run and moved the entire thing down a notch to use X for backward movement but I do think W+S/S+W is a lot more intuitive in that case I'm afraid. 4 movement speeds is one too many really. Right now I change my stances quickly and intuitively on ZXC but I'm considering putting them all on one button by having Z do "up" (toggles standing/crouching or moves to crouching if prone) and ctrl+Z do "toggle prone" (toggles standing/prone). Then I would have X and C free to have some fun with. Anyways there's no reason not to remove that awkward pause your character does when using the W+S/S+W set-up!

Post related to feedback tracker ticket number 3002 "better wounding system"
Sneakson replied to bez's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
The current damage system is pretty sucky and I hope it gets improved a bit but a system with this much depth is probably best left for modders. Not for everyone, really. I will be happy as long as they improve the damage modelling for the extremities somewhat. Right now you can get shot dead by someone repeatedly shooting your feet which is terrible. Getting shot in the arms should make you unable to use weapons with that arm effectively and getting shot in the legs should make you limp or crawl. That’s enough for me. -
Well, that's right. If you're already moving. If you're not moving I wouldn't take my time to start up and gain momentum though. Lying down next to a quadbike you'll get at least 180 degree cover so the chance is 50% of dropping on the right side even if you have no idea where the shooter is -- which you will probably(?) hear. In a situation like that I'd pretty much accept that I'm done for but if you're prone with some cover and can locate the shooter I'd say you have a chance unless they're in even better cover. If I were shot a while moving I'd keep going and zig zag if I thought it would do any good. I'd also search for any small hill for cover and try to get off so I could return fire though. I'd rather be a shooting duck than a driving duck.

Can anyone recommend a singleplayer mission where you simply fight some random enemies? Sort of like the armory in ArmA2? You spawn in a random location, enemies spawn in another random location and then you gotta go there and kill them -- or enemies spawn randomly all over and you go until you drop. Anything like that? I’m just looking for a simple mission to start up whenever I wanna shoot at something. Much appreciated.

Hey guys. Anyone got W+S or S+W bound to toggling movement speed? You know that annoying stop your character makes every single time you toggle because you're pressing W (forward) and S (backward) at the same time? http://feedback.arma3.com/view.php?id=9382 Made a ticket for it. Should make movement a bit smoother for anyone using W+S for combat pace and S+W for walking pace, like me!

If you're in a quadbike and get shot at naturally you get out, drop down behind it for cover and try to return fire -- at least if you're in an open field. Putting the pedal to the metal won't not make you a sitting duck, it will just make you a driving duck. Unless you've got cover that you can drive to nearby you should make your own cover and get behind it quick. Right now AI is indeed shockingly bad but I would wait until beta before I start making a big deal about it, really.

We need some method of long-distance concealment!
Sneakson replied to daveallen10's topic in ARMA 3 - BETA DISCUSSION
This is a big problem indeed but I think all of your solutions are terrible except for possibly the texture one. What needs to be done is simply soften up player models that are viewed at a long distance so they blend in better perhaps by some sort of anti-aliasing process. I think a combination of higher resolution, higher contrast textures, optimization that allows for detail object rendering at much greater distances and a way of rendering soldiers that make them smoother would work. Another problem I have is that when you're lying down in grass you can't see shit but everyone else can see you because the grass doesn't render for them. An option that lets you render grass over greater distances but at a lower density and detail would be nice. Overall I think the fact that playing at lower settings usually gives you an edge is a concern in online competitive gaming. -
I do believe I'm playing Elite with Super AI at all times yes and the AI does see me but can't hear me very well and whenever they see me they will just stand in that exact location and make no attempt whatsoever to ever chase after me. But I'm pretty sure it will be solved either when we hit beta, retail or mods.
-
Yeah, but I'm afraid having a ton of soldiers constantly and obsessively walking all over the place without resting would be nearly as strange as them just standing there like signposts. Some script that make that act like any other AI soldier in any other game would be nice eventually and a must if the devs want editing to catch on with casual players. Oh but the combat AI really is my main problem. I've made a couple of maps with nicely spaced out soldiers in villages and patrolling sentries but they too ended up playing like shit because all the AI does when shot at is drop to the ground and if that means they can't see you anymore they will do nothing but lie there indefinitely. I sure hope a lot of work gets put into the AI eventually.

Arma 3 - The most tablet friendly game on the market?! Yes I have Arma 3 on tablet!
Sneakson replied to sproyd's topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Good luck spotting enemies on a 4" screen Minoza! Gonna need one of those Game Boy magnifier clip-ons. I sometimes play Arma with a NES controller. Unfortunately pressing several buttons at once doesn't work so it's hard to do much of anything. Probably works solid on a SNES controller though. Haven't bothered testing. (Bind A to W and use the d-pad to look around... shoot on B, reload on start and toggle crouch on select -- still better than the AI!) -
Hey guys... played some today. Combat pace then going into crouch makes your walk crouch and walking and then going into crouch makes you combat pace crouch... any ticket for this yet? Also not being able to freelook when aiming is annoying. It is possible to nudge your view somewhat... but when you let go it only resets horizontally! Also nuts and obviously bugged. My biggest problem is still this though: http://feedback.arma3.com/view.php?id=6755 Not being able to bind all buttons to any command really sucks. Not to mention the extreme shakes you get whenever you are in an adjusted stance -- any ticket yet? Ofcourse there is because I was nice and made one: http://feedback.arma3.com/view.php?id=8545

Crouching as fast as running? Also can aim while running but not while jogging d'oh!
Sneakson posted a topic in ARMA 3 - GENERAL
Am I crazy or is it annoying that your movement speed is the exact same when standing up or crouching especially when moving at the default running speed? Most games have you slow down automatically as you crouch which seems pretty natural for pretty much any situation when you would want to crouch. Another problem that I think is more recent is that when running you can keep your aiming up but when jogging which is actually slower you lower your weapon every damn time you make the slightest movement -- should it be the other way around? Are there any reports regarding these issues already? If not and people agree that these two things are a bit backwards we could make a report. -
Where people are? Other places. The Alpha is essentially a demo in content. After you're through with it you move on to other things until there's new content. Where do you expect people to be? Playing the demo non-stop for 6 months? I'm currently concentrating on other games and in the past week I've been playing Ninja Gaiden and the next week I'm hoping to get started on the 1st generation of Pokémon games. I think people are being extremely impatient and immature about this whole deal. Especially those mentioned by WalkerDown. I'll give you some answers right away: 1) The general quality of the game engine will improve over the next several months of development. 2) There is no anti-cheating because it's not ready to be deployed yet. But there will be anti-cheating. 3) There is no road-map because there is no road-map. We don't know. They don't know either. Video game developers make their own deadlines to a certain extent and the game will enter beta when it is ready. There is nothing wrong with their PR. Evidently 99% of all the alpha testers are idiots and don't deserve answers. If they spent all their time here they wouldn't have time to develop the game. People are freaking out thinking the game will be released unstable, without anti-cheating and without notice. But what would BIS gain in doing so? BIS are working their best because their economy, sales, ratings and reputation are on the line and they have no reason to want to intentionally create a bad game. So chill the fuck out people. I'm not even going to go into greater detail explaining how I know the engine will improve or why there is no anti-cheating or road-map right now because of how fucking dumb it is to even ask. ---------- Post added at 03:58 ---------- Previous post was at 03:52 ---------- Communication isn't great? I think it's great. You want to get in touch with them do it through the feedback tracker, I've had nearly half of my reports looked at personally by BIS. And as to why they're not in the forum reading every single post -- why would they? It would be a ton of work and most bullshit people say here is just ranting the same thing over and over again. Once you reach a meaningful conclusion on a topic and you want to share it bis BIS seriously you use the feedback tracker in a respectable way. If people agree they upvote, otherwise you'll have to accept your issue is minor. And why ISN'T it enough to say "it's alpha"? It's the truth and nothing but the truth. Saying it's alpha should be enough. BIS have already confirmed that sounds will be changed etc but people still complain about various sounds ALL the time. But it's alpha. Just saying that implies that things will change. And they will. A lot of people seem to think they're entitled to some sort of opinion because they bought the alpha but they're not. They're entitled to a finish product and getting to play the alpha and beta is just a bonus. What BIS get in return are the loads of helpful user reports in the feedback tracker that undeniably exist. And we get to have some fun. Currently we're having a very fruitful exchange with BIS, even if it is not apparent to everyone.
