  1. I thought everyone knew. I guess I thought it was default ever since I switched to Alternative when I redid my keybindings a while back and I'm still stuck on Alternative whenever I clear them again. It’s practical though. More practical than LMB not doing anything while running. Can't you run though? I didn't try sprinting but I think you can increase to running.
  2. I wish I knew how the AI settings worked in better detail and what all the keybindings did. I sure don't though!
  3. Weapon resting would make a big difference for other stances than prone though. And there's a mod that already does it spectacularly from what I've seen of it. Can't BIS just ask to borrow the code?

Dead Zone Folks: Why not use freeaim?

What’s the current issue with deadzone aiming? I’ve tried it. Didn’t notice anything wrong with it.
  5. We're all aware the AI has some issues right now such as working terrible in CQB… and working pretty terribly over distance too really. However in Showcase: Infantry, which I play a lot, the AI seems alright. Doesn’t it? I’m playing on Elite with everything possible disabled and 0.7 AI and did think it was excruciatingly punishing but when I lowered my settings so I got about 40 fps instead of down to 20 in battle it got a lot better. I see them – I shoot. They see me, they shoot. Sometimes they try to run, sometimes I try to run. Sometimes my shots just won’t hit and they get me and sometimes they miss long enough for me to hit them instead. My AI team usually drop like Skrillex but the only big mistakes the AI makes is insisting on going up that hill east of the village where they’re sitting ducks and regrouping to a point in the back of the village where they’ll just stand until I come get them. The AI is quite aggressive and walks down the valley and have even ended up behind me on more than one occasion and going through that central vegetation is always really tense. Is it possible to open this mission in the editor to see how much scripting is in there? I think that on maximum settings the AI should nearly be like playing against a player. Which means nearly getting killed as many times as you kill unless you’re at an advantage. On Elite 0.7 I can complete the mission in about 5 tries and ended up with 16 and 19 kills which gives me a meta-K/D of about 4. Seems alright doesn’t it? Agree?

    They better have female soldiers...

Why is this thread alive lol? Is anyone objecting? My 5 cents are that character customization in video games is a big deal nowadays. Yeah? I’ve read its origins are in Asia where people struggle to achieve individuality in multi-million cities. Evidently Westerners hold their individuality in no less regard and while many different approaches have been taken to character design in video games the customization approach is becoming all the more common. It’s apparent that gamers like to play characters that they can create themselves and often this character bears some resemblance to their actual selves if often idealized. Equally apparent is that people prefer to play their own gender. It’s all about the sense of ownership and relationship that character customization creates. If the army consists of more men than women that is completely beside the point because video gamers in the 21st century indisputably and undeniably consist of about 50% of either gender. Historically video games mostly portray men because men have been most of the gamers there was. The earliest record I’ve heard of video gaming women are that the original Game Boy surveyed that equal amounts of men and women played it. And that led to many more games being targeted to women and being able to play as one in the second generation of Pokémon. Today in Sweden 52% of all gamers are men, 48% women. And more than 80% of everyone play video games. So now we know that character customization is big today. And equality. Most people likes to play their own gender every once in a while. So add women. If there are women in the army which there is it doesn’t matter if strong women are less common than strong men in the army. We don’t have any system that makes sure the ethnical ratios on all servers are kept at a constant realistic ratio and thus should allow women in no matter that they’re women and no matter if this leads to online play having more women than would be in modern armies. Not to mention that ARMA is trying to be a cut above Battlefield. How about women? Not being a sexist is fashionable today indeed. Remember this? http://www.1up.com/news/ubisoft-issues-cease-desist-somethingawful
  7. Not sure about laptop specs… they’re all a bit different from stationary computers. The Y500 seems to max most games a year old or so at about 50 fps… not sure if that’s going to get you more than standard settings in ARMA 3 though. If you want around 60 fps that is. I run standard-high settings that make the game look nice but about at 40+ fps… any lower settings and it doesn’t look too good and any higher settings and it doesn’t run too good. Current minimum is still above 30 fps I think but if I turn on anti-aliasing the minimum dips to 20 which makes ARMA impossibly difficult to control because of sway and all that. Anyways there’s no way to be sure until the game is out really. It will hopefully be better optimized and have more settings but will also have new, higher settings so it’s difficult to tell how it will run until someone has actually tried it. The Y500 seems OK but you may be able to get something else for €1300 that just barely pushes you up to 60 fps on high settings. If you’re buying it specifically for ARMA3 I’d do like me (in fact I am doing like me) and wait with computer upgrades until it comes closer to release… I’m waiting until about august or so anyways. Can't find anything about gaming on that laptop but ARMA3 on lowest settings isn't very demanding... also doesn't look too nice though.
  8. I have "3 seconds" bound to my primary mouse button. It lets you shoot even when running by automatically slowing you down to combat pace. Combat pace by the way is quicker than walking is but less exhausting than running.
  9. Yeah -- and spawning an AI and just letting it go wild without any other orders is the definition of non-scripted AI. It doesn't work well in ARMA3. However scripted AI does.
  10. Yeah, your weapon is in the exact same spot when standing or crouching in 1st person.

The Orbweaver is sweet. Note that the 20 main keys are mechanical Cherry blues (or browns on the Stealth) and both the "Alt" (officially the "Hyperresponse Thumb Key"), the "Spacebar" (the "Spacebar actuator") and the 8/4 way d-pad all click just like a mouse. The clickyness together with the solid dark matte design gives a very precise impression. It's nice to have your hand on and works nice. Easy and effective software, macros... definitely a step up from the Nostromo and I'd actually take this over the G13. I haven’t got anything in particular bound to the “joystick†though. Even if you disable the diagonal directions using a joystick to click is just strange even though it’s in a great position and all. I guess once the game goes retail and I have to start binding commanding and communication commands they might go there? I used to have binos and night vision on the key above E but now I have them on V. I also think I have V bound to get out and eject though so I’m really not sure how it’s all going to end. I’m going to get a Mamba to have the Mamba/Orbweaver combo. Stylish though Razer products do have a reputation for breaking down. If not that I would probably go with the G13/G700 too. There’s a Saitek Cyborg “Commanding Unit†too but it doesn’t look like much. I’d get the Ouroboros mouse except its only green and I hate green so much I’ve disabled backlighting on the Orbweaver… I’m thinking about opening it up and changing the LEDs to blue eventually. Only cons with the Orbweaver I can think of is non-customizable backlighting, non-braided cable, I think you may need an internet connection to change keybindings and finally the different parts of mine wobble a little bit probably because it’s customizable… it’s not noticeable when your hand is on it though.

  14. Hey, in the editor when you create AI soldiers they just stand there and do nothing. Even when shot they won’t move and after losing sight of you they won’t do anything to chase you down. Is there any way to make the AI randomly walk around, turn around every now and then and make them more reactive in combat? I like to start up the editor, spawn some random enemies with random radiuses and sneak around trying to shoot them all however it does get dull so now I’m considering extending this mission a bit by adding custom equipment and a debriefing score screen at the end but unless I can spice up the AI I don’t know if it will be worth all the trouble. Thanks!
  15. Why would you want to remove it? It's so small. It only adds to the UI by a little bit. I'm pretty sure they mentioned it would be optional when they implemented it but indeed we never saw the setting... some settings missing here and there. Not sure what's up with that.
  16. I've never seen AI give any sort of orders or making any sort of intelligent retreat other than what I assume to be a script in Showcase: Infantry when they will occasionally run over the ridge. If you just spawn them in the editor with no scripting they will at worst not even move when shot and at best scatter randomly over a small area if they're a big group then just sort of sleep.
  17. Actually I played Ghost Recon 1 recently and again there's no such thing as intelligent AI but in GR it’s deadly. On Elite, if you miss you die. They spot and shoot but also actually chase you down well in GR in my experience. I don’t know exactly how it works but it seems to me that the AI searches for a spot you can’t see them at such as where a bush obscures them from your view and then they use that to their advantage to get closer to you while you’re none the wiser if you camp too much. I’ve had many enemies pop out of bushes right next to me after they apparently have sneaked some distance to get to me while I foolishly didn’t reposition. And no, I don't get what's so difficult about modern AI. The AI in ARMA doesn't give orders or retreat, that's all scripted anyways. Unfortunately we’re unlikely to see better AI any time soon. With the online boom of the past 5 years or so AI has nearly become irrelevant. Even more so in games like Battlefield that only have a few, scripted and short single player missions with no expansions and no mods. At least there’s no excuse for not making tanks have brilliant AI because they move like they’re tanks already obviously. Infantry and aircraft are probably doomed to unintelligence though.
  18. Well, the AI doesn’t act “intelligent†but it does a solid job of being an obstacle. I’ve been playing the Showcase all day and it is a lot like playing against your pretty average internet infantry in most games anyways. Sometimes they run past you… and won’t turn back around even when you shoot at them. They also move around a lot by running without their aim up and when they do they don’t pay close attention to their surroundings. And naturally they quite often turn around excruciatingly slow or have to adjust their stance somehow. Other than that I don’t see any big issues in the CQB AI. Eventually their aim should be made a lot worse though because currently they are very accurate maybe to even out their slow turning speed. I always remember Ghost Recon. That game has solid AI. I seriously don’t understand why AI today can’t work like AI did back in the days of Quake or just whatever when an enemy sees you – turns to you and then shoots you straight on. No walking in circles, no awkward adjusting and no bullshit. In Ghost Recon an enemy sees you – it turns to you and shoots. As simple as that. Bang bang, game over. And if you’re not in sight they circle around you quite intelligently by searching for blind spots and then approaching you until they’re right on top of you.
  19. You shouldn't worry. Solid specs. ARMA3 on laptop... wouldn't recommend. But if you're prepared to pay the same amount of money as for a stationary computer there are some alternatives nowadays.
  20. I was about to say the same. Old thread!
  21. I think a recent update made the really trippy lodding worse yeah but I'm pretty sure it will get better by beta.

Your keybindings are strange as shit lol. Combat pace on your MOUSE? I'm using the similar Orbweaver. Currently not sure how I want my keybindings but I've got all movement, stances and equipment on the keys and firing modes, zeroing and toggle zoom out on my mouse for CQB. I don't think the joystick is accurate enough and intuitive enough to use in combat so I've only got clock, compass, gps and watch bound to every direction of it and double tap to toggle lol. I did use to have binos, NV and the map on there too but moved it to the keys ASAP. By the way how the hell do you toggle flashlights? Can’t find any binding to do it and sometimes it happens just randomly.

Walking through bushes, water... underwater fights, flying helicopters upside down... I bet BIS are having the times of their lives!
  24. Any reason this can't be officially put in the game if modders have done it already?

I'm in +1 time zone compared to Greece... anyways I only think a Greek should be able to criticize the visual appearance on things in Greece. They would know best.
